As for your tent. I see you missed the option to open the back wall, for extra ventilation. There is a cord inside the tent, you should pull it, and the outer back wall, will come up. As for the smell. Something is wrong, bacause i dont have any weird smell in me tents! I have two of these.. only the 3xl the bigger one.
You did'nt use the tent like it's supposed to be used. It helps to consider the manual. You can open the rear flap to improve ventilation and it really helps. The blacked out feature is really popular in Europe. People like camping with it in crowded campgrounds and use it for festivals. It provides privacy even in the dark when you shine a light in it. Additionally, in the summertime in Europe the sun rises at around 4 AM - people like to sleep longer than that since they are on vacation. You can absolutely do so without being blinded or baked by the sun in this tent. My advice: Give it another chance, learn all it's features and don't camp in a sauna-like weather and you'll see this tent is better than you think. It's very popular for a reason.
100% agree, I've been using Fresh&Black tents at festivals for years, they are amazing. I can sleep 2-3h longer then others, and with a fan, I can sleep all day in direct sun.
First of all, a reviewer who do not read the function of tent? As many has already pointed out, there is a massive opening for ventilation in the back of the tent, where you can open up the whole back end of the tent for extra ventilation. This function can be handled from the inside of the tent, also working with the side openings. Nothing of this was in the review. I have only one concern about this tent and that is that when it rains, the opening is not covered, so you need to be very fast to get in or out of the tent, otherwise it will be wet, as it will rain right into the tent. They have another tent, looking nearly the same, but it is a bit lower, but have an abides, so when it rains it will not get in to the tent. They also have a complete new tent that is still a "2 second pop up" but much better, with good absides and everything. www.decathlon.co.uk/p/camping-tent-2-seconds-easy-2-person-freshandblack/_/R-p-308355
With alot of the features you me tined being suited to Europeans, do you feel it works for other Parts of the World just as well? I just found the comments odd considering he is not in a European Country. I believe he camps in all weather to show off the tents, a d give a context to how it works in different weather. It is the main focus of the channel. How weather and gear work together. Thanks for the insightful comments about tent use in Europes light, and weather conditions.
@@DrSinisster Mostly because I'm from Europe and used to the camping conditions there. And Decathlon is from France. So I assume they designed the tent towards European customer's needs. Though I've been in southern Canada (BC and Alberta) and climate there has not been that different, a little colder maybe. The US are a good bit lower geographically speaking, that may be a difference.
I’m an old retired vet, been a tarp guy for a long time. No shelter is set up in 2 seconds, some faster than others. I use tarps because they are fast, simple, reliable and light…even when car camping. From the video beginning, I don’t like tents such that the top leans toward the center, so that vertical rain fall enters the open door, no matter what. This tent is a fast setup and simple. I’m still a tarp guy. Thank you Luke…from East Tennessee.
That is my exact thought about all the pop up tents that have been reviewed. The roof of the tent should extend beyond the bottom of the doorway. I don't care about the weight, at 67 I will never go deep into the woods & far from my car. If I don't have to rough it, I simply won't.
I am also an older retired vet and have always gone out with a 1 person tent (better in inclement weather than a poncho). But I just picked up a 3m x 3m nylon tarp to try. Lighter weight and takes less pack room. Is there a favorite shelter configuration you prefer? And what is your normal camping environment (desert, forest, rain, etc.)?
I really love the tent. Ventilation wise i didn't see if you opened the backside for ventilation. Last weekend i camped in 30c, no problem. The fresh and blacked version i bought for festivals. There are running lights on the terrain. Every other tent i woke up in the middle of the night, thinking it was morning 😂. Just bought a new one after 8 years.
It is possible to open up the backside of the flysheet for improved ventilation. The blackout fabric is designed for the European market. it can become light again in Europe at 4 in the morning allready, because it lies (on average) more northern compared to the USA.
I cannot agree, Luke. I have owned a version of this tent for ten years and it still stands up to the rain and chilling winds that plague the English Spring, Summer and Autumn. Yes, there can be condensation if you have to seal the tent against the wind, but that doesn't run into the inner and soon evaporates after the tent is standing unoccupied.
Had this tent since it was first released. It is a fantastic summer tent . Never had a ventilation issue . As the back wall completely opens while still keeping the inner tent dry. I love the blackout fabric as it means I'm not woken up at 4 am when the sun rises in the UK summer . Your review doesn't do this tent justice .
I would have thought the blackout function was obvious, but I feel like it should be said because you are a nice enough guy. It's for privacy ... can be convenient in a crowded campground.
Ex British army Apache helicopter tech here, love your outdoor videos Luke. Love the bad weather military surplus videos in particular. But you do make me laugh as you’re definitely one of the few people that actually loves bad weather haha
I had a bit of an adventure myself this week, and it was your advice that saved me. I was at Pennsic, a medieval reenactment in rural Pennsylvania. I wanted a large cabin style tent, because when you are wearing long dresses you don't want to crawl out of anything! I saw your video featuring the Naturehike 8 person cabin tent, and it seemed just the ticket. It kept me dry and fairly cool in very hot weather. On the second to last day there, we were hit with violent thunderstorms with wind gusts up to 70mph and quarter size hail. The tent next to me was destroyed, and I got not one drop in the tent. Thank you for making my trip fun and safe!
Why didn't you open the side and rear windows for ventilation? I use the black out features when camping with my small kids, they sleep better in darkness vs lights coming through.
Storm chasers actually go out and chase the storms, they are constantly on the move. You let the storms come to you. Definitely a storm camper more than a storm chaser.
im feeling very sick right now and i usually like to watch camping and hunting videos when im sick. this was a perfect video to watch today cause its calming and also fun and it really helped me with this slow boring recovery progress
Thank you to the Outdoor Gear Review channel. We've been in some extreme rain, sand, snow, wind storm nights on our adventures and appreciate your test runs on your videos. That is NOT easy. For car camping here in Alaska or maybe my Southern Friends in Canada we’d appreciate the black out feature. Here in interior Alaska, we have over 70 days where it’s light all night, and over summer solstice, we have days where the sun doesn’t set. Having the blackout helps.
This is a festival tent, usually the camping grounds have bright lights at night and people stay up late and get up late so you can have some extra hours of sleep when your tent blocks out morning sunlight. The UV shielding works well, too. Ventilation is not the best on the other hand it keeps you relatively warm in cold nights over here in Europe and dry when it rains. It also withstands a lot of wind easily. We own and use this tent on very short car camping trips, at the beach and at festivals since five years now and it is perfect for this purpose- for us. For long distance hikes and bike backing and also for longer stays at camping grounds we have different tents but honestly, I would not use my 400-800USD UL tents on festivals and for camping where the tent stays put in the bright daylight for several days (UV light) and/or may be damaged by drunk people. I got this tent for around 60/70 EUR (I do not remember exactly) and got a reliable, easy to set up tent for this price. When judging a tent I think you always have to look at its purpose and for whom this might be interesting and not everything is for everybody. I would always recommend this tent to friends with a small budget who just need and want only one tent for light camping situations like road trips over here in Europe, Festivals etc. When it comes to price you always get a cheeper tent from some chinese dropshippers but when something is wrong with this Decathlon tent you can just walk into a Decathlon store and you get a full guarantee, repair etc. And with these China tents you never know what you get and when you get a bad tent you cannot send it back and you have no guarantee, spareparts or anything.
I can tell you one benefit of those "dark" tents from my niche involvement (which is astrophotography in case you didn't catch by my user name). It's nice to be able to sleep during the day without being overpowered by bright light when you have been up all night long doing captures. The downfall to most of these tents is the fact that the feature that gives them the dark functions result in heat during summer. But I do have to agree, for most people a "dark" style tent is not a real need. I currently don't use tents regularly since I have an RV that I use to go to dark sites to set up. I have the bedroom windows blacked out and also the overhead vent. We all prefer sleeping in the dark and usually don't sleep as well when light is present, so as I said, I can see a benefit of "dark" tents. The downfall to them is the very feature that makes them dark will make them uncomfortable during summer months, but in the cooler months when you are chasing other DSO's (fall, winter and early spring) that added "heat retention" can be of benefit.
These tents are used for festivals in europe. That's why they're blinded. The freestanding ones are pretty good. Own one myself. They have way better ventilation.
Hi there, love your videos but have to say that I took this tent to the Outer Hebrides in 45 miles an hour winds. I camped on a cliff top and have to say it stood up really well to the wind and heavy rain. Obviously there the weather is so much different and obviously humidity was not an issue, but on the whole I was very satisfied with my little tent. Peace and honour, Sue x
Wow, that last picture of lightning striking the water was extraordinarily compelling, Luke. If you ever decide to quit your day job, you would be a great nature photographer. Seriously.
I appreciate the blackout. Happy to lay around until storms roll thru. Why get up ???? Glad you made REAL coffee! Grind mine in camp. If you camp when its hot.. expect to be hot... and HUMID.. Never had a tent where ventilation was an issue. But I only go when it is below about 45.
I have 2 fresh and black tents but I have only used the smaller 4 person 3 second (😉) one. Don't care that is heavy as it is transported in my car. Here in Europe we are having 35°C in the day and 15°C at night. As sunrise is at around 4 am in June I happy that my youngest daughter can still sleep until 7 am no problem. We don't have the ventilation problems you had but it is a slightly bigger tent. I am 60 and have had enough of sleeping on an air mattress so I bought a huge fisherman's bed 1m x 2,1m and 50cm high legs and a new F&B tent to go with it. It has 3 inflatable hoops and just one pole. Definitely a family tent. Can't wait to try it out.
Oh this lightening is unbelievable. It’s on top of you now. No where to run. Those biscuits look so dang good. Wicked thunder. Loving the rain ~ making me sleepy. It’s 3:29 in the afternoon ~ cloudy in West Tennessee. Had the creeping crud for the past week and fighting it hard. I am ready to feel better and myself again. I’ve got surgery I need to have. Gotta get well first. Enjoyed Luke
Hi Luke WOW those pics you took of the storms are incredible! You caught the lightning just as it happened! I too love thunder storms! The tent looked promising on the outside and I like those flaps over the side window; too bad it didn't measure up on the inside so much. You're testing to find out it's more suited for the Fall is important to know prior to purchasing and this is one reason why I love your channel!
Fingers crossed for this. Been using a Decathlon pop-up tent for years now. Bomb proof. It is 3 metres square and 6-7 foot tall (note the mess of measurements someone brought up with both systems uses!). Now use it as an awning to my vintage caravan.
Hi Luke. I wish you tried the bigger tent, the 2 second 3xl tent. It is the best of all the popups tents, in my opinion. I have used it in all kinds of weather from summer to winter, rain, storms and snow. I have it for a few years now, and i use it, almost every weekend. Wish you could review it. 🎉
Those quecha tents are insanely popular in europe, I have about 4 myself. festival tents indeed, not meant for serious outdoor use (Though I used them many times in European campings). What suprises me most is that this tent doesnt seem to be popular in America and that this was your first quecha tent to review! Nice eposide and nice to see it get seriously reviewed by someone with some proper outdoor knowledge. Always was curious about this!
Thanks for reviewing this tent.I have one that I purchased at Wal-Mart 3 years ago on clearance for 25 dollars .I have only used it in cooler times of year and it was enjoyable. Just wanted to let you know and tell how much I enjoy your channel.
Hi Luke! You timed this adventure perfectly! That tent, though, IS super weird! Luckily it doesn't leak, because there is so much condensation in there already! Thanks for sharing this cool adventure with us!
My experience with Decathlon tents, like their Quecha series is that they don't leak when they are new but give them 1 or 2 years, their coating will start to deteriorate and they leak everywhere. Ventilation also not very good, even if you open up the vent at the rear. The guy that got into an accident with you... when you lose someone that you loved dearly, like a spouse, it will make you question life... I know because I lost mine.
Luke: A challenge, all in fun: try to post a video without using the words "amazing", "incredible", "phenomenal", and "without a doubt". Bet you can't do it. If you play fair and don't just edit out those words later, I'll become a patreon. If you try it and don't make it, I'll send you some goodies. Challenge!
..do you know it also has a back vent..? I did not see you use it... ..and by the way, what did you expect in 90% humidity? Nothing helps you, maybe that fan a little... ..I have the same tent and never had a problem with it, especially in hot or stormy weather. The insulation really works (I slept in it in 30 celsius, it was not pleasant, but I slept), you can leave the door open at the top to have more ventilation. In heavy rain if the tent collects water, it just partly folds, the water flows off, and then immediately stands back up (assuming you set it up as you did, not using the included guylines), same in the wind. A worker in local decathlon told me, that in a big storm all the tents outside got destroyed or lost, except the "2seconds" tents. They folded or ran into the fields (or both), but all were found and returned to the display in working order. Im mostly not even using the side guylines, just four stakes...
I’ve been using the same tent for the last 3 years. It has performed well in cold, rain, heat and humidity. Good thing it is completely dark inside so you don’t have to worry about sunlight in the morning. I believe there’s a non fresh and black version that it’s more suitable for summer time.
I've used this Fresh & Black 2 Second 2 pop up tent for years in high humidity at night since I live in a tropical country and I Loved every minute of it. Heat and humidity inside the tent wasn't an issue at all. I never forget to open the back ventilation by pulling the blue string and opening up like a horizontal curtain. I can linger in the tent for a few hours after sunrise due to its Fresh & Black feature. Great pop-up tent, imho. Cheers!
I have to ask two questions. Please bear with me. With all of the loud scary thunderstorm audio effects: A - Why don't we see any lightning flashes? B - Why @ 19:51 does Luke have his hand wrapped around a six foot tall metal pole while standing on water logged ground? 🙂
Glad everyone was ok in the Auto accident. I will be praying for him today. I must say, IF he had to hit anyone, and no one was hurt. Im kind of glad it was a type of people like you Luke, meaning, you are upper Up Class, Not someone who is going to sue him and really mess his life up more than it already is. I can't imagine going thru all that in such a short period. He must be lost in life right now. Praying for his health and safety/welfare. Amen. Peace from Big Jim New Hampshire USA aka Boston Strong
Super hot, super humid, rain... you're right, this is not a tent for these horrible conditions. But life in any tent in those conditions is bad at best. If the tent had been under the tarp it would have been slightly better.
Fantastic photos! Love your videos. Very relaxing and informative and I always look forward to mealtime . I love all the storms you camp through. Wish we had more of that where I live.
I’m sure the back of the tent in the inside also opens…. Soo a little more ventilation, I still like the looks of this tent, brilliant storm pictures also 🤙
Hi Luke I’m fairly new to your channel but have noticed that since you started the quiet channel , there is a lot less talking on these adventures. I always love hearing your dinner stories and your chatting throughout. Plus noticed your adventures used to be around an hour and now only 1/2 an hour. Love watching Especially the big storms.
Yeah good night i admire your courage and determination you are unique in your own ways well nice i formations good to hear the tips and more awesome ❤🎉😊
Not sure why people like pop up tents when most are junk. As for decathlon, I personally love their tents and the blackout technology. Very useful. I hate tents that let in light.
Good video! Thought with the two openings it would of had better ventilation. Oh well. Always love when you show us some of your fantastic photos catching nature in all it's beauty. A talent you are a master of.
Luke, I'm not sure if you are into video games or not, but on the off chance you are.... there is a new game out and the second you said Storm Chasing it made me think you might like it. It's called Outbrk. You basically chase tornadoes in a vehicle with a bunch of different weather instruments and different kinds of radar. You can play solo or with others (maybe your son?) I don't know, seemed worth a mention lol. Cheers from NJ

I'd be that person who needed the blackout for my dog to sleep past 4am when we're camping.
Thanks for your sincerity 🤗
Great lightening shots!
Awesome storm pictures, Luke. The lightning was incredibly beautiful. Thanks for sharing.
Beautiful photos of the lightning
Hi Luke! You timed this adventure perfectly! That tent, though, IS super weird! Luckily it doesn't leak, because there is so much condensation in there already! Thanks for sharing this cool adventure with us!
Prayers to the guy that hit you.. glad everyone was okay.. ❤
Hello. I would like to say that the back side of this tent rises so you can have ventilation.
Challenge!
With Luke, all good things are incredibly good. LOL!
@@Wordsmyth8Without a doubt 😅
I love your filming/editing Luke. Interesting angles and transitions.
..do you know it also has a back vent..?
What a beautiful place to camp at. Very nice scenery.
I’ve been using the same tent for the last 3 years. It has performed well in cold, rain, heat and humidity. Good thing it is completely dark inside so you don’t have to worry about sunlight in the morning.
I believe there’s a non fresh and black version that it’s more suitable for summer time.
I've got one of the Decathlon Quecha Fresh and black tents. I love the blacked out inside so no bright and early mornings.
Cheers!
Hi Luke how is your back ? Better i Hope. ❤ Be Blessed . Say hello to Susie . Stay Safe . Great Video!! 👍
Those pictures are amazing
Great pics of your storm chasing
C'est merveilleux,bonne soirée
Sounds like a cool weather tent.
I have to ask two questions. Please bear with me. With all of the loud scary thunderstorm audio effects: A - Why don't we see any lightning flashes? B - Why @ 19:51 does Luke have his hand wrapped around a six foot tall metal pole while standing on water logged ground? 🙂
Hope ya'll stay safe through all the rain from Debby. Had 14" here in Charleston, SC. Those outer bands are packing a punch!
Same Myrtle Beach SC it was nuts and we still getting rain ☔😞
@@DJ-iu5bb Hopefully you guys start getting some breaks soon. Been drying out most of this afternoon but another band is about to hit.
I appreciate your channel and your honesty! And I loved your storm photos, great shots! Keep doing what you love....
I used to love camping in the rain when I was a young man.
Today. Not so much, definitely would stay in the car 😅
I would just set up a tarp and put up a tent underneath the tarp. The new tents can't handle bad weather conditions.
Amen. Peace from Big Jim New Hampshire USA aka Boston Strong
biscuits and gravy about time best ever meal on the trail
LOOKS LIKE CAT VOMIT
@@tonsta1703 it's a Southern Thing you wouldn't get it 😭
@tonsta1703 your disgusting. What a thing to say about southern food.
@@DJ-iu5bbI'm not from the South but when I lived in WVa I got used to biscuits and gravy. Soooo good!
@@tonsta1703 $16 cay vomit. Looks like he put too much water in it. Gravy was too runny.
Your video’s are my great escape. Thank you for filming.
That looks like the kind of tent for the snow weather.
Super hot, super humid, rain... you're right, this is not a tent for these horrible conditions. But life in any tent in those conditions is bad at best. If the tent had been under the tarp it would have been slightly better.
Nice to see you . Thank you for the video. Be safe God Bless Always 🙏🙏🙏🙏
Decathlon gear is brilliant
I’m sure what you heard at 3 am was Bigfoot stopping by to say hello.
Good One!
😂
Hey Luke good pictures and I hope that the tent does not get wet
Amazing pics!!! And always appreciate your unbiased views with no agenda!
Hello Luke I Enjoyed The Adventure Thank You 👍👍👍👍
Wow, Luke, wonderful lighting photos. Nice video. Thanks
I loved the storm photos ! Wow !
That lightenings so cool in ur pics
Doesnt open the vent flaps, "this tent has poor ventilation"
Doh!!!!....lol
Yeah this guy complains about everything! Don't know why I even turned this video on.
@@rackdaddy4259 so true 😆
😂 unbelievable! Not the brightest crayon in the box.
He really gets caught up in his own little bubble sometimes. Too much ego.
I do like the color of the tent
Thanks 😊
My kind of weather is storms with thunder and lightning ⚡⚡
Love the storm pictures!
Love the storm photos Luke 💛🌟✨
Cool hand Luke I've thought you'd miss for sure🎉
Keep up the great work on new camping, videos and reviews, great job
Nice storm pictures, Luke!
You should all ways be in the tents when testing out them!!!!!!🎉
Thanks for the videos!
Great video
Your channel is really cool and chock full of facts about camping gear.
I live vicariously through people like yourself and enjoy seeing what others do and use.
Due to health reasons I am unable to camp out anymore.
This is only time I have seen you look like you are really tired, please take no offense. My personal observation only.
Thank you for being 1 of the more straightforward equipment testers.
Try out the Decathlon "2 seconds easy". It's probably the best overnighter tent out there, I've already spent over 50 nights in mine.
This dude completely trashed the tent you love, I mean NO holdback, just ruthless this dude is
