The absolute best severe weather tent camping video I've seen. In spite of the intense weather you set up camp, built a much needed fire, cooked burgers, remained warm and slept, and then the grand finale: bacon and eggs in the morning! Very well done!
I’m 61 and disabled. I’m lying in my warm bed all snuggly under my Sherpa lined comforter with electric faux fireplace on. I’m enjoying the rain and camping vicariously through your wonderful video. Thank you for sharing. Stay blessed. ❤😊
Mother Nature threw everything she had at you this time. I can appreciate how difficult this video was to film and I am sure all of us appreciate your hard work. Very enjoyable. Thanks.
I didn’t appreciate. Always complaining. “This wood is terrible. So wet” The whole video showed what not to do unless you want to suffer in the outdoors.

I agree with you about the peace one finds in the woods. I lived with the woods all around me and 2 years ago an electrical fire in the middle of the night took it all after 38 years. After one winter in town in an apartment , not able to even find the stars, I bought a 1964 camper, put it up on the ole homestead as I had to start trying to tip down what was left … but by bit, I’m working at it. I’m 65 and everyone’s too busy to help and companies wanted $15000 to tear down what was left charred and erect. So… I’ll plug away at it BUT best part I’m STILL here, living full time in my little camper, with my dig and tend to the yard and my gardens and my hens. I sit out and watch the stars ♥️ No street lights, just black sky , coywolves howling down back in the woods, and I’m HOME ♥️ - just don’t wanna leave here. The land is as much HOME as the house was. And the rain on the metal roof 🙏🙏🙏🙏🤗🥰
@@katehopkinsbrent5573 Thank you for your story. Very nice, but outdoors is not my thing.Being blond and light skinned, I try to avoid direct sun. I enjoy looking at nature, seen a lot.
Finally I found somebody camping in conditions I know - rain! So many videos of people camping in mountains and snow. Rain like this is a challenge on a whole other level. Greetings from rainy Denmark 🇩🇰
We camped many nights in Western Washington State--the weather was very much like this, 36 degrees F, raining sideways. I thought I would stay dry with rain gear--ha! I was soaked the entire time. But it was memorable and we have many camping/hunting stories.
Brings back memories of camping in our heavy canvas cabin tent. This was back in the 60’s. Mom,dad and 4 little girls camping in all kinds of weather. That tent would come down in horrible storms and we’d have to sleep in the car. I’ve gone through a tornado in an outhouse!! Thanks for taking me back.
Loved it!!.. Awesome!!..These are the memories you will always have of wild camping, because camping in these conditions is always "on the the edge of your seat stuff"....When you are back home and carrying on in life it gives you the "warm and fuzzies" inside, and you can't wait to get back out there and do it all again.🤪

Hope for the best, but *PREPARE* for the worse is a damned good philosophy! Decades ago, I and a GF spent two weeks in the Sierra Nevada Mtns. of Central CA. Our first night, we arrived at the campsite very late, but after setting up our tent, while she was getting ready to retire, I stayed up, setting overhead tarps for the tent, our fire pit, and the nearby table. Then I dug a trench/drain-line around our tent and away (downhill). She kept harping on me to just come to bed, and I just kept going till I was satisfied. Next day, the Heaven's opened-up, and we had downpours/wind/hail/thunderstorms, for the next four days! Then, she understood the importance of proper set-up, and we had a wonderful time! Lovely video, GREAT Tempest-Watching, and very happy you were able to record it and then share it with us! :-D
That fire was critical for you Abel. The heat, ambience , cooking, drying out. Very nice work, you rock! And the burgers, goodness. And your editing is superb, the best! Carry on!
@@philiphjelsand5167Totally agree, there was no point in that fire, he got soaked through collecting wood, he couldn’t build it close enough to the tent because of the wind, he couldn’t use it to dry off because he had to keep his waterproofs on and he didn’t need it for cooking, I think it was just for the purposes of film content. @johnferry7778 ... Actually, for many people like myself, a fire is comforting, even if only to tend and gaze upon. Getting it going in the rain is hard, but worth the effort.
I'm watching this beautiful rain and cold from a place that's had its driest and hottest summer since 1981. We have daily temperatures of 40⁰c and terrible drought. This video was beautiful thank you

I love winter/ storm camping. My friends and I were out in 80mph wind with 100mph gusts back in 2014. That was rough. You look very well prepared and looked to be enjoying yourself. Bravo. Nice video.
Wow! Much respect to you, Abel, for enduring all aspects of the camp. Climbing for 3 hours with that huge backpack, managing to build a fire, and cooking fantastic meals in freezing temps are just a few of the obstacles you overcame, all while filming. Honorable mention goes to your tarp placement, which was perfect and amazingly allowed you to sit outside your tent in the driving rain. Therefore, I hereby annoint you "King of Tarps." Hi Able 👋 You did fantastic. No matter how wet you got you just kept on plugging away at your pitch. What a trooper !!! You are far and away, the best of the Kiwis. Your personality is a lot easier to swallow than T...'s, and the New Zealand family that is presently touring our country is wonderful, but they are a different ❤theater altogether. They haven't lost their innocence yet. Able.....you have. Love when Victoria comes along. This adventure would not have been a good one. You both would've got in each other's way. Would've been funny, but would've tested your patience to the max. Divorces are made of that.Take care of yourself, Able, and get warm and dry. See you soon. ❤
This is the best rain video I've ever watched or listened too. I started listening to storms and ocean's first on cassettes, 8 tracks, Dvd"s and now I've enjoyed RUclips for years.... age 66 female, and I actually painted my car this week. Darn Hyundai paint job. I taped, sanded, primed, & painted over and over again, for about 40 hours. But! I'm grateful to God I was able to do it. Now that I'm all done and showered, I can sit relax and enjoy watching your rain storm! Love it! Thank you so much for this video, its just what I needed!❤
🇬🇧 Crazeee!! Watching from a warm kitchen in rural Oxfordshire, trying hard to imagine being wet through in that fierce storm on the mountain top☔️🔥. The tent & tarp worked very well to keep you safe and getting the fire going was a Godsend. Would have liked to hear a little about you, your opinions, your work & family. At 82, I won't be doing that again, sadly, but this was really great to watch. Thank you!1🤗
I'm under my blankets watching your video and sure wish I could do this sort of camping, but I'll be 64 tomorrow, and I think I'd be under the blankets there, too. Enjoy. I'm going to keep watching you.
Hey man recent subscriber here! Lived a year as an exchange student on NZ and absolutely fell in love with the place, when there I totally maxed out the journey visiting most big hikes like Tongariro the different glaciers and even went skiing! Really wish i could go back one day but the 46 hour there and 38 hour back is not an easy flight! Your videos also got me in a better mindset, helping me clear my mind of all the clutter and focus on how i want to shape my future and what is important to ME here in life. PS If you are ever visiting Sweden, id love to host you and bring you on some adventures. Much love to the kiwis and your wonderful attitude towards nature!
I love the challenge of camping in weather like this and snow storms too. It’s you against nature and if you’ve planned correctly, no problem! Thanks for the great video!
You have a wonderful sense of humor. At least you can smile and laugh at your situation! I'm so glad I'm not there with you. I get cold so easy. I'm afraid I wouldn't be very good company at all!
Thats nowt mate, I just drove 3 miles to my local Greggs and the card machine wasnt working, a full 300 yards walk to the ATM and it felt chilly with the fresh breeze, boy was i ready for my bacon bun and coffee
Tie that stuff down. Don’t like to see you so exposed. Our extreme camper. You put yourself thru so much. I am always so excited to see your experiences. You are the greatest
Wow huge effort Abel...I was in the area also at the same time and it was absolutely nuts and cold and I wasn't even on the tops. Well-done great video.
Love watching when the rain is pouring down and the wind is raging. I,m 76 year old lady and enjoy watching you at the tops as you and AB camping say. As the rain pours down it's also pouring down on my roof window. Beautiful. Enjoy it all.
Jealous, love storm camping / hiking. Just got through summer here in Australia, looking forward to getting back out there myself now things have cooled down a bit. Epic video.
I love camping in the rain, getting changed out your soggy clothes and building a little fire in the tent with a chimney then just lying there listening to the wind and rain hit the tent and the crackle of the fire. Bliss.
I found a cave on my property about 15 years ago. The entrance is about 5X5 feet but inside it about 20X30 X12 feet tall. I love camping in it during storms. If we get Tornado warning my wife comes with and we ride out the severe weather together. We've had two Tornados in that time one passed close enough we could see it and all the crap flying around, it was awesome. I've built a queen size bed, tables and chairs, end tables. a large fireplace and other creature comforts in the cave. It's out home away from home in bad weather. You should have gone the extra mile and fried up some hash browns.
Wait, a fire place inside a cave??? How did you manage to put a chimney, did you dig a hole in the cave ceiling to put the chimney in or do you run a pipe along the walls to the outside through the entrance?
I love the feeling of wind and rain.....and I would sleep my best sleep inside that tent with the sounds of the weather on the outside! 🙂 That egg case....has been sold since I was a little girl...and I 59 now🙂....so that's not a new thing!🙂...but I think they was more used back in the days! I love the joy in your eyes, that what it's all about!🌼
I think I would have snuggied down in the tent with coffee and biscuits. Couldnt imagine lighting a fire. You have my utmost respect. You earned those tasty burgers
Abel, just found your channel today and every comment I was going to make has already been made by everyone else. It was the BEST FOUL WEATHER camping video I've seen to date! ! ! 22:02 what was that big black bird(?) that pass over your right elbow.. passing through that green bush behind you.. awesome camp.. cool video.. gnarly weather 😁😊🤘 ah a weka.. cool 😊
I was on a 12 day canoe trip and it rained every damn day. Still remember it vividly, as we had 250 lb 8 person canoes to carry as well. At 17 years old, it was life altering. We planned the trip ourselves, bought and packed the food ourselves. We had one canoe with teachers, but they stood by and were just observing and there for safety. If you got lost with bad navigation, they let you lol. They purposely put guys in same canoes that did NOT get along. This was in the vast park of Quetico in Northern Canada. It was called Outers and you attained 1 credit as long as you did 40 hrs community work as well. There was fall trips, winter camping/snowshoeing , and an all overnight navigating snowshoeing trip.
That reminded me of when me and my mum went camping overnight, we were jump judges at a cross country horse event, it was too far away to get their early the next morning, so we camped overnight. It a hot barmy June afternoon when we set out, by the time we got there a storm had blown in, absolute deluge and high winds. So we stripped off down to our underwear to pitch the tent, because we didn't have spare clothes. We also had to batten the tent down with an extra tarp over the top to keep the tent from being blown flat. The storm settled down and we all had a great evening, went to bed about 10pm, it got really cold in the night and when we got up in the morning there was a good 10 inches of snow. So that was that for the cross country event, they canceled it. We then had to wait until late afternoon for the snow to melt so we could pack up, get out of the field and go home. Happy days.. 🤣
Loved it, fair play for getting the fire going. Always good to leave the comfort zone. Solid gear choices too. New subscriber here. Thanks for putting in all that effort. Take care bro

Se fosse eu, estaria apavorada com toda essa tempestade....e vc está sorrindo e se divertindo!!! Gostei do seu bom humor e sua alegria. Um abraço 🤗
Hi Able 👋
You did fantastic.
Abel
This is the best rain video I've ever watched or listened too. I started listening to storms and ocean's first on cassettes, 8 tracks, Dvd"s
and now I've enjoyed RUclips for years.... age 66 female, and I actually painted my car this week.
Thank you!1🤗
It's an epic cold rainy 🌧 camping. I loved watching you stay warm with those hot drinks and comfort food. You are a true camper in my eyes. 👀 👏 👏
All worth it for those burgers! They looked great. Good video in the face of adversity 👍
First time viewer. Wow, you are the most skilled outdoorsman I've seen. Your efforts are appreciated.
22:06 little bird walks by in the background, cute.
That was a bird? All I saw was something black moving...
A great watch……I found the noise of the wind and rain very therapeutic…👍
@Cathramz am a regular listener!….thanks for the tip though 🤙
For the conditions you are in your doing good 👍 message from Cardiff South Wales
I love how you keeping good spirits no matter what the weather is just wonderful 😊
Thank you for braving the elements for our pleasurable entertainment of watching crazy weather camping ⛺️ You’re a rugged handsome beast😉👍🏻
Haha thanks
I'm under my blankets watching your video and sure wish I could do this sort of camping, but I'll be 64 tomorrow, and I think I'd be under the blankets there, too. Enjoy. I'm going to keep watching you.
Love it , thank you so very much I appreciate you, I could feel the wind ❤
Thanks mate, this was a brilliant video. Cheers.
No problem 👍
Good video. I know the rain was a bugger but the sound (while I’m warm, safe and dry) is marvelous.
Nice camping video, awesome sound of rain and wind. Very brave of you to stay out during the height of the heavy rain and wind. 👍🏼
Your delivery is excellent. No awkward pauses or “ummm”. That’s hard to do. Well played Sir :)
Thanks
😂 got to love British humour 😅
😂
Tie that stuff down. Don’t like to see you so exposed. Our extreme camper. You put yourself thru so much. I am always so excited to see your experiences. You are the greatest
Well done mate, superb effort. Always a welcome sight seeing the fire going👏👏👏
This is awesome to watch. Thank you. Watching from Bahamas 🇧🇸
Wow huge effort Abel...I was in the area also at the same time and it was absolutely nuts and cold and I wasn't even on the tops. Well-done great video.
Wish this was mid winter could have been an absolutely epic snow dump
👍
camping in a Typhoon...
Great watch, keep it up, and all the best for the future you seem like a great chap.
I have to admire your perseverance in such trying conditions mate.
This reminds me of camping in my childhood.
Non mais faire un feu sous l eau sachant que ça va fumer grave ok mais dans ce cas ferme ta tente car en plus tu vas dormir dans la fumée😅😅😅😅😅😅
The fact you not only put up with those conditions but also film. Kudos.
What a blust. Was exciting watching you and the storm. ☺👌
Epic video.
Watching from Auckland - New Zealand 👍👍
I love camping in the rain, getting changed out your soggy clothes and building a little fire in the tent with a chimney then just lying there listening to the wind and rain hit the tent and the crackle of the fire. Bliss.
Looks like good fun. Is it Nelson Lakes?
There's nothing like rain beating on the tent inches from your face while being warm and dry.
I enjoyed watching your video. Thank you for bringing us along on your adventure.
I love the joy in your eyes, that what it's all about!🌼
You're a maddog, love ya work
Amazing work with the fire 🔥 in the conditions, thanks
I think I would have snuggied down in the tent with coffee and biscuits. Couldnt imagine lighting a fire.
You have my utmost respect.
You earned those tasty burgers
Abel, just found your channel today and every comment I was going to make has already been made by everyone else. It was the BEST FOUL WEATHER camping video I've seen to date! ! ! Good on ya mate for hanging in there and braving the elements. I'm considering doing some Overlanding camping trips now that my wife has passed. They should be a lot easier then my 20+ years of military 'camping'. LOL 70yo, Seattle, Washington USA. Thanks for taking us all along with you.
Que paisagem linda,vc escolheu pra armar barraca!!! Amo o barulho da chuva!!!
Parabéns pela sua coragem de acampar sozinho!!!
Obrigada por dividir conosco suas aventuras.... Um abraço 🤗
I liked this video mate, was good to listen to the storm and see the tent holding up. I miss the better half tho ❤❤❤

Another great camp Abel 👌
Lighting a fire in the pouring rain... respect!
Love your video it make me happy, I love nature thank you. God bless.
Wow cool adventure with your mum.. great life.. 🕊NZ
Loved it, fair play for getting the fire going. Always good to leave the comfort zone. Solid gear choices too. New subscriber here. Thanks for putting in all that effort. Take care bro
