Have you thought about doing a “after the hike video “ a cleaning , maintenance and storage of all the gear you use for hiking and camping , some people don’t know what cleaning products you can or cannot use , this would be a great series to do ! As always, great video can’t wait to see the next one 👍🥓😃⛺️
Your dry sense of humor is not lost on me and I agree with your sentiments about all the topics you brought forward tonight. Staying calm, cool and collected is a strength of yours that I wish most people had. You’re a good role model for us all. ⭐️
Great advice, Luke. Being prepared is one thing. Being paranoid is another. There is a fine line between the two. So, each person needs to find that line and remember the definition of 'practable'.
That's a smart decision not talking politics on your channel, I've seen that debate tear apart friends and even families over who voted for who. It's a shame what the storm did to the forest. I really love watching your videos, I can't wait to see you and your wife out on an adventure in the future.
Hey Luke just wanted to say thank you for helping me get some sleep tonight having been ill the previous day. Keep up the good work. Strength and honour
Thank you, Luke, for another awesome camping video and information. I know that you have plenty of experience doing something you enjoy so much. But been surrounded by predators, it just scares me that you have only a simple tarp to cover where you going to sleep, but that's the mother hen in me. 😊 Again, thank you so much for taking us along. Take care and God bless
Hey Luke. What you are packing thru is so devastating and actually quite sad. The wrath of Mother Nature 🌬️ can be brutal. To me this once very alive and thriving forest is now broken and in pain. Your love of being out there makes my heart feel alive and brings back so many memories of when I was able to breathe and just get out in nature. That’s why I love your videos so much ~ it’s like I’m right there with you. Luke you are a very kind and generous man. You proved that by helping all of your neighbors through Helene. Thank you for letting us come along with you so we too can enjoy these adventures. God bless you and Susie. May he keep you safe. I hope Sometime in the near future things will seem different in North Carolina. You are very loved and respected ❤️🌳🌲🌳🌲
Can you imagine what that forest sounded like when all those trees were uprooting and snapping . I have been in a forest that was frozen and hearing the trees snapping is horrifying .
Possibly one of the most closely watched elections with the highest integrity so far. A win for all the volunteers who mustered their courage and gave their time. Chicago winters with -27F temps and -48F wind chills and icy roads or deep snows tend to encourage a 3-month supply of freezer and shelf stock. Trips to the grocery store are best limited to one or two bags of fresh produce. Ice on power lines sometimes result in power outages during a wind storm. Comfort and convenience (and coffee addiction) are primary concerns. Preparations are practical efforts for the sake of convenience rather than avoidance of a threat. A true Midwesterner has their year's supply of shovels, scrapers, salt, window insulation and snow blower maintenance ready by Thanksgiving. It's a time of abundance, gratitude and celebration. Christmas lights go up in nice weather but are turned on after Thanksgiving. Minimal white outdoor lights might stay lighted through the dark and stormy days of January, February and March. If you're going to be outside, have fun snow shoeing or crosscountry skiing or s to wedding, not schlepping things in a parking lot. Even though there is no bad weather, only inappropriate clothing, it's easier to stay warm when you're having fun. ☕🛷🏂⛷️🏈🏒⛸️
Cannot imagine -27F.... currently in australia about to head into yet another season of 42C+ (around108F) summer temps! Never gets cold here- can't remember the last time I wore a jumper, even in winter!
Well at least you had a bunch of Fur babies to keep you company :) I hurts to see so much damage to the forest. they were saying that there were tornados in that area, it could have been one of those ef4 or 5 tornados with the 150+ mph winds.
I think there's a level of fear --- like, before Luke would make breakfast and enjoy the moments. Now he sips coffee waiting for daylight . I didn't hear no birds ! And to the left of Luke's face... looked like a face with 2 huge eyeballs?! Course my opinion?
I've learned alot from you over the years and one thing I can pass on is when animals get a little too close for comfort just blast from a whistle and their curiosity tends to go away.
I laughed so hard when Luke said, " enjoy sleeping on top of your food" .😂 I like Luke's suggestions consisting of common sense and caring for others. He's a decent man and I wish him and his family all the best.
Luke you never disapoint. I live in the mountians and we prep for 3 weeks every winters without power or the ability to get to town due to snow or washed out roads. This event happens about every other winter. We Hunker down and relax. We play cards and have more family time.
The area around Damascus is returning to normal, but there is still a mobile home and RV in the stream, what we call “straight branch”,just outside the town. Day 50 of chemo and I’m feeling it. 14yr brain tumor warrior.
Luke, love your advice about preparing for realistic vs unrealistic events. It's never made sense to me that people will waste so much money on all those supplies for something so unlikely. It must be mentally exhausting to worry about such things so much so that you'd spend a fortune on it.
Im curious about something. Now don't get me wrong, Luke is super knowledgeable and I enjoy watching his channel and I have been doing so for years however, is it just me or is Luke over packing for being in one spot for 1 late afternoon / evening 1 night? Its very important to be prepared yes, but he gets where hes going when its already very late in the day, sets up and unpacks and then is already talking about getting out of there super early in the morning. How is that relaxing? It seems like a lot of work for just 1 night.Plus hes saying how cool it is but waits until it completely dark to light the fire? lol With that said, I do love your videos Luke!☺️☺️
Bought the mesh fire pit and it was a real hit- using it in tall, deep fire pits at CG we use less wood, see the fire and less smoke. Those coyotes want you to share your reindeer stew
I'm 76 years old and ever since I was in first grade, we were always being prepared for a nuke to hit. We lived about 20 miles south of Los Angeles, but we had not only our fire drills but our drills in case the bomb hit. Ive heard it my whole damn life. I don't even pay attention to it. ! Lolol
iam 80 and y childhood was filled with worry about nuclear war, We had duck&cover drills in school, and educatioal films i class about what to doif you see a flash, get down in a ditch or up aaist the curb in te street, face down, hamds & arms protecting head. and wait fo the shock wave, then get up and run. home. People built fall- out shelters in their back yards and basements if they had a basement. In those early days we did not have the Distant Early Warning, radar- DEW -line on our northern border. We lived in Montana, and had a Ground Observer hut on the prairie away from the town lights. i could see the red light in the hut from my bed room window at night, ad hear the coyotes, too. . Our Girl Scout troop got to visit the hut and even spend time with the volunteer, who watched the sky 24/7 , ID’ed every plane and called it in to an Air Force base somewhere in the area. That all seems rather primitive nowdays, but it was during the cold war in the 1950’s.. Thing is if you are far enough away from the blast zone, you will want to survive -in a fallout shelter.. My sons were in Civil Air Patrol and i was the their unit’s nurse, had a uniform and everything, went to the meetings, All about Civil Defence,- gieger counters, doseimeters, a large book on every aspect of living iand making a fallout shelter, in the basement or crawl space in a home. Radiation concerns came up for those living on the west coast . after the the meltdown of Fukushima. reactor in Japan. yes, there was radiation that reached our area. But the radiation monitors on tall buildings in Seattle, stopped working. so time todust of the old geiger counter and book from CAP days. years before. i am saddened to hear aout nuclear war fears. the best way to deal with fear is information, learn how to protect yourself from fallout , it is the radioactive dust particles that are dangerous, the radiation is only in the dust, it will not contaminate canned food or bottled water as the radationn passes through the containers, and the dust can be washed off.,Communication with Civl Defense authorities is needed if you do not have a geiger counter, like battery radio. tuned to the CD staation. informaion about all this iavailable on line. there are many things you can do to have on hand as a precaution Usually the radioactive half-life of the dust is short, a matter of days or weeks, depending on the bomb type.. Then we can have some peace of mind and get on with our daily life. information is free and is the key. radioactive dust usually has a half life of about 2 weeks, and after about 2 weeks the dust should stop falling. and we can come out of the shelter. But lets pray that we will never have to take shelter. that there will be no nuclear war.. and as Luke says: Strength and Honor. 🇺🇸
Oh, my God, you had me laughing about sleeping on your food with 10 years of preps. I served in the US Navy on attack submarines. For a Med run, we would stock up on food where the #10 cans would take up the passageway and we would put plywood on top of them to walk on. Thanks for the flashback!
Another good one! Am always staking out the bushes for bears when you're chatting😂.. think its ever since the soggy footprints that followed you down the mountain...thankyou for sharing
You are right. It’s easy for me because I’m 75 years old. I have always told everyone I know that the only time you have is the moment you are breathing. Do what pleases you right now. Be kind. Be helpful. Do what you can do because nobody can do everything. Help others. Smile. It will drive people crazy. 😀 Be happy because stuff happens . My favorite saying … “ it is what it is”. Just make the best of it. I would gladly take you and Susan for my kids. Michael
Hi Luke! Can tell this is before the time change back! Have gotten myself one of those stem lights. Very useful already! You are warm and the spiders were cold. My roomate came back from a vacation in Maine with a tick! She was in a vacation home and not camping. So folks, check yourselves whenever you stay somewhere other than your home.
Luke, I agree with you about prepping. I threw away 25 pounds of rice that was vacuum packed in mylar. The sealed mylar was also sealed in heavy duty food grade plastic buckets with lids in my garage. Upon inspection, I discovered a rodent had chewed its way through to the rice. The rice was defiled with urine and droppings. I now keep only enough food to survive a season. It stores nicely in my rodent free home.
I wonder how the wildlife in the area faired? Could you imagine what it would have been like to go through something like that? Thanks for showing all the damage up close and personal. Great vid Luke!
I love camping bushcraft videos, so I've stumbled onto a pile of prepper videos. Having grown up during the Cold War, watching THREADS, and THE DAY AFTER, and learning the reality is even worse than the movies could show. I wouldn't want to try and live in a radioactive, post-apocalyptic hellscape. Even if I avoided the worst of the radiation, no civilization, no infrastructure, and the immediate threat every other survivor now poses would make ending myself preferable
Hey Luke, regarding hemochromatosis... Did you ever think, put 2 and 2 together and think your knees hurt from all that knee breaking of branches? Its gotta be bruising the inside and thats blood, therefore iron...
Adult stage deer ticks become active every year after the first frost. They’re not killed by freezing temperatures, and while other ticks enter a feeding diapause as day-lengths get shorter, deer ticks will be active any winter day that the ground is not snow-covered or frozen. This surprises people, especially during a January thaw or early spring day. Remember this fact and hopefully you’ll never be caught off-guard.
I have more than 90 days food but it came in handy. I got deathly ill years ago, landed in the hospital for 2 weeks and got home and it took 3 months before I could walk out to my truck. We live 10 miles from town and we had everything we needed. We wanted for nothing during that time. I didn't need to burden anyone to go to the store.
Aloha Luke Susie, love the Video, scary with the Coyotes Glad You were safe .I think your safer in your SUV or a Big strong Tent. till Your next Video Safe Journeys Love and GOD Bless You all Aloha Always Sister Chrissy Honolulu HI 💙🌹🙏🥰💯
I 100 % agree with you! You are a voice of reason Luke 😊👍 And it’s kind of fun watching you enjoy a well known product for me. If it wasn’t for the the strict laws I could have sent you more of that Real turmat 😣
Hey Luke, it's devastating to see this damage to such a beautiful place. It looks difficult but be very careful. I would love to try it. MS Ann ♥️ this is the best camping channel. Luke keeps it real and doesn't take any crap 😂 your explanation is on point about nuclear war. The coyotes are loud 😂 I love the red 🧦 I love the wolf screen saver. Please wait for more light it's dangerous with all the debris with the trees. Thank you Luke. Strength and Honor. Please say hello to sweet Susie. MS Ann 🌹♥️ be careful 🙏🏽
A suggestion, which I understand might be a lot of work, for an almost hour long video where you are reviewing gear intermittently, might be useful to use chapters to help highlight what parts of the video you are talking about a given piece of gear. Not every time you mention a piece of gear, like during your camp setup, but when you are giving your feedback about it or providing some kind of useful information.
On the sad bright side, you'll never run out of firewood. Never seen so much on my life. I've visited horrendous tornado areas. Nothing like this. The ground and mountainsides are stripped clean. maybe a half mile wide. Not even a stick in the touchdown zone. Out to the side hardly nothing bothered. Strange but real.
I agree that it's best you don't bring politics into your channel. I watch your channel, and others, for it's content and enjoy that content very much. If your politics is different from mine and you bring it into the channel it's very likely I won't be as apt to watch you. Let's enjoy what you do and hope you keep doing it.
The talk about all the downed trees reminds me of Geowizard's experience with his England straight line mission. Dangerous stuff navigating those fallen trees
Does someone come in and clean up all the down trees or does it just stay that way?. such a beautiful forest or it was anyway Luke. It’s your forest. It’s still beautiful. You love it and you’ll camp there for many many years.. your videos are fabulous and thank you for all the work that you put into it. Hello to Susie.
Living and camping in Alaska I never worried about coyotes or wolves but bears are another story. We always kept a fire going at nite and slept with serious bear protection. Never had a problem though in all those years.
Have you thought about doing a “after the hike video “ a cleaning , maintenance and storage of all the gear you use for hiking and camping , some people don’t know what cleaning products you can or cannot use , this would be a great series to do ! I AGREE WITH @iamgroot8631! I WOULD LIKE TO SEE HOW YOU MAINTAIN AND STORE YOUR GEAR TO PREVENT MOLD ETC
Luke could you bring Susie on a adventure together please
😅😅

Hey Luke, 100% Service Connected Disabled Veteran here. Theres more than a few of us that like the surplus smell, lol
Thank you for your sacrafice... From another Vet. And have a great Veterans Day.
I agree I did 21 years from 03-24 and I like it in a weird way too.
I don’t even think he replays to his followers
@@Hero10838 He reads comments when he's camping.
If you don’t care for it, vinegar/ water soaked in a 5 gallon pail gets that smell out. Works well.
“When I said simple, I meant it “. Continues to unpack chair and fire pit …..
I love everything about this 😀

Luke, wise response! This is why your channel is so good .. no hype, no bullshit .. just good old common sense and sensibility. Well done!
Another nice and peaceful trip Luke. Thanks for bringing us along.
Luke, love your common sense approach to life. Thanks for the camping trip!🌲⛺️🌲
Hey Luke just wanted to say thank you for helping me get some sleep tonight having been ill the previous day. Keep up the good work. Strength and honour

My favorite when the video has animals near camp 😊
Thank you, Luke, for another awesome camping video and information. I know that you have plenty of experience doing something you enjoy so much. Luke, your idea of "super, super simple" is what i call "shoot, I coulda not carried half this stuff 4 miles!" 😂 haha love it!
Loved the sound of the forest waking up
Man, great news Wednesday morning and a new video from you? It's not even my birthday.

Just what I needed 😊
So nice to have a raised fire, thans Luke for this great video
Army vet and somehow that smell you describe from the tarp is cathartic really good video looking forward to the next one
Im ex mil, and as soon as you mentioned the smell of the tarp, i could smell this video 😂
All that destruction, hope the animals out there are ok.
It’s the end of the world as we know it and I feel fine.

I 100 % agree with you! You are a voice of reason Luke 😊👍 And it’s kind of fun watching you enjoy a well known product for me. If it wasn’t for the the strict laws I could have sent you more of that Real turmat 😣
Nature at its best!👏👏👏 regrowth is amazing!❤❤❤
Proper fire wood for years to come. Wildlife will flourish and you can harvest. Nature is awesome 👍
Knowledge is so much easier to carry around that 10 years of food.
Love to see the chair and table come out…oh man! I could smell and taste that coffee…..my heat in my seniors unit I never let it above 62 degrees….
I had the same problem on my property. I used a heavy machete to help me navigate the pathway. Cheers from the Ozarks.
Great episode Luke I like you talking better than no talking.
I agree that it's best you don't bring politics into your channel. I watch your channel, and others, for it's content and enjoy that content very much. If your politics is different from mine and you bring it into the channel it's very likely I won't be as apt to watch you. Let's enjoy what you do and hope you keep doing it.
Suprised you didn’t weave in some of that Patterson Gimlin Bigfoot footage 😂
The talk about all the downed trees reminds me of Geowizard's experience with his England straight line mission. Dangerous stuff navigating those fallen trees
Does someone come in and clean up all the down trees or does it just stay that way?. such a beautiful forest or it was anyway Luke. It’s your forest. It’s still beautiful. You love it and you’ll camp there for many many years.. your videos are fabulous and thank you for all the work that you put into it. Hello to Susie.
LOL this better be good! Lota of Drama music! I am sure it is as they always are really good and interesting.
Love your shows
Fun video, be safe brother.
As a lion tamer myself, I can tell you, be veeeeeery careful Ooooooool Luuuuke!!!!
Great watch nice one Luke
Do the forest wardens monitor the wildlife?
Living and camping in Alaska I never worried about coyotes or wolves but bears are another story. We always kept a fire going at nite and slept with serious bear protection. Never had a problem though in all those years.
Bro! The reason why you would need all that food and water is for when the zombies show up!
Lol
Damn, thought a mouse fell into you chair … lol! (You threw something on it .. phew) 😁
Cool story bro.
Still a great camping spot that is beautiful. Nope, wouldn't want a spider getting cozy with me throughout the night.
That meal looks like Stovies. A cheap, working class meal we would have back in Scotland.
The Burnistoun version of biscuits-and-gravy.
Yeah, man. The Scots took their food with em to those parts of the south. Deep frying and all that.
