  • Chris Perkins and Todd Kenreck sit down to talk about what the Spelljammer setting is.
    SET SAIL FOR THE STARS!
    A thrilling space-based adventure setting for the world’s greatest roleplaying game.
    Spelljammer: Adventures in Space presents the Astral Plane as a Dungeons & Dragons campaign setting unlike any other. Home of the stars and gateway to the heavens, the Astral Plane teems with excitement and possibility. With the help of magic, spelljammers can cross the oceans of Wildspace, ply the silvery void known as the Astral Sea, and hop between worlds of the D&D multiverse.
    This set contains everything a Dungeon Master needs to run adventures and campaigns set in the starlit realms of Wildspace and the Astral Sea, as well as new options for players who want to create characters at home in this fantastic setting.
    COMPONENTS:
    The Astral Adventurer’s Guide, a 64-page hardcover book for players and Dungeon Masters that presents the Astral Plane as a campaign setting and includes space-based character options, spells and magic items, deck plans and descriptions for spelljamming ships, and more
    Boo’s Astral Menagerie, a 64-page hardcover book for Dungeon Masters that presents game statistics and descriptions for over 60 creatures found in Wildspace and the Astral Sea, including astral elves, cosmic horrors, lunar and solar dragons, murder comets, and space clowns.
    Light of Xaryxis, a 64-page hardcover adventure for Dungeon Masters that is set in the Astral Plane and designed for characters of levels 5-8
    Double-sided poster map of the Rock of Bral, an asteroid-city that can serve as both an adventure location and a campaign hub in the Astral Plane
    Sturdy, four-panel Dungeon Master’s screen designed for use with the books in this set.

      This is the most 'normalising' thing I've ever heard from the D&D Creative Team, as it's such a primal part of dreaming things up.
      Sometimes necessity truly is the mother of invention and from it can come some of the best things - things you'd have never even thought of without the impetus of filling a creative void or needing something for a narrative bridge.
      Same can be said of the Space Guppy. Art can spark one hells of an array of ideas, from which a minor doodle can become a favourite creation.

    I just would've assumed the murder commet was based on the firelich from the 2nd spelljammer monsterbook of 2e, given they are spellcasters who turn into raging comets, that murder people, and well the art is similar both being comets with faces, so it is interesting to hear this other angle behind their creation. Like I had to check the name as I was initially caught off guard they weren't the same monster.

    • @VinStJohn
      @VinStJohn Год назад +1

      Right now they very much design the book for English first, then separately create localized editions. So it's more likely that they'll just face similar but different challenges when creating localized editions, like needing to choose a non-obvious name for a creature in order to position it in a suitable place in alphabetical order.

      Your hit die equates to the dice you roll for both the amount of hit points you gain each level and for the amount of hp you can get back on a short rest (on a short rest you can spend and roll your hit dice to heal getting half of your maximum back each long rest)

    Disney’s Black Hole - that is so old school. When Disney tried to make a Star Wars like movie. Maximilian (robot). Vincent(small robot hero). And “zombies”. And that ship, still one of the most beautiful gothic models ever made.
