Righttt, I’m literally just finishing it now and my opinion hasn’t changed a bit. There’s some great completion but In my eyes nothing is like Pluto at the moment.
This is the first and only anime I know of that mentions the city of Zaandam (I grew up there as a kid) It felt so strange to me, but its also kinda cool
That’s sick, whenever shows do that it adds another level to it even though it may be a small detail, my parents are from Sri Lanka so any time I hear about it anywhere, makes me proud
My first experience with his work was Monster but i found Pluto and it become one of my favorite Manga. This mn and Togashi are my favorite manga authors.
Yup him and togashi are 2 legends, the few mangakas that just don’t miss, the fact that just the 2 of them combined made monster yuyu hakusho monster and Pluto is ridiculous
If you loved Pluto and Monster, read 20th Century Boys and Billy Bat. His other two works that are just as good if not better than Monster. 20th Century Boys has a villain on par with Johan, and Billy Bat's story goes from JFK assassination to Moon Landing, to Jesus and Judas, to Hitler and Einstien , to Michael Jackson all connected in a single story. One of his most creative works which not a lot of people talk about.
I got to check that out, I’ve seen about that Hitler panel lmaoo, interested to actual see it’s place in the story. 20th century boys is 100% on my list too, heard nothing but good things about it
Already top 5 in my books. Had it in my manga readlist for a long time but didn't have the time cause of schoolworks then opened my netflix one day and it was there lmao. Urasawa the goat🐐🐐
Factsss, Urasawa only writes masterpieces and this adaptation was made with such dedication I literally can’t name a flaw, there’s obviously recency bias but I also gotta say this shit is top tier already
The way the depicted the Robots and humanized them was amazing and I thought numerous things were going to be predictable only to subvert my expectations and that made the emotionally bonding with the characters and expectations much better. For example spoiler When episode 6 I, think I was the most stunned when Gesicht died, and I thought the way they were showing that episode his wife was going to die but no he died I was left shocked because I didn't expect it.
For realll, that’s another thing that I have to acredit to naoki, he pulls you in with a great idea and then expands so much on that story. I noticed that in monster way back and continue to see that in pluto
Great picks and I feel the same, Pluto is very recent but too good too just leave out of the top 10, I’m sure once I rewatch again it’ll easily be in the top 5
Ong, it worked so well tho in telling the entire message of the story, the invasion showed everything that’s wrong with war and the root of all wars is always hatred.

I made this a month ago my guy when it had been out but barely talked about, also a small channel and a hidden gem and a packed schedule, I get it tho, when I got time I try to finish the works, but I seen enough of Pluto to try to get it more attention
I usually am sceptical in a lot of the stuff i have comsumed recently. I kinda liked spiderman 2, didnt finish Lords of the fallen fully, barely started lies of p and havent finished an anime, that wasnt Weekly for over a year, yet this i finished in 2 days. This is one of the few times i might give a Series 10/10. I absolutely loved it.
Pluto… kind of like the previous Netflix show Arcane. I went into it not reading any of the Manga or knowing who Astro Boy was. All I can say is the show is ver very good.
Exactly like arcane, Netflix produces bangers at least in recent anime, my expectation was not high for either but both are going down in my books as some of the best of all time
Oohh I have but I gotta think of something to make the video on exactly, I personally loved it through and through and my expectations were met the whole time. Some slight issues with the ending but overall amazing. Again a follow up sounds like a great idea, I think after I cover invincible, frieren, and JJK then I will likely come back to this
I have to be honest I really love the manga but the adaptation is super 👌, now I have to read 20th century boys , I just know I won't be disappointed. Thank you for the video.
The adaptation is so good!!!! And Same here to I gotta check out 20th century boys, heard nothing but good things about it, and thank u for this comment 🙏
@@AntiKashfr bro. And you making a video on it only helps more people watch it. This is how more and more of his works can get adaptations. Keep it up!
The pluto manga started serialization around 2004, right around the height of the iraq invasion. Viewers will know how the 39th central asian war in the show and the search for "robots of mass destruction" are thinly veiled references to the war.
I see I see, I assumed that they were referencing some type of war, didn’t know which. But from Astro boys description of war and timing I assumed it was the Vietnam war for Astro boy at least. I might be wrong tho but that’s interesting to hear about the Iraq invasion and gulf war, shows how detailed the work is and real
Isaac is one of the first to write about robot stories in 1950 but this is based off of Astro boy which tezuka wrote about in 1952 in Japan, I don’t think the two are related
Yo why are people upset if a good anime studio gets all the adaptions as long as they keep up the quality what’s the issue ? Y’all just be weird sometimes
Read up on the recent news fam, a mappa key animator had a mental breakdown on Twitter. It’s not the animation, matter a fact they’re animations have been amazing, but they need a change over there
@@reabsorb that’s true ngl but at the same time best is always gonna be objective, so to someone could be the best. Although I agree with u in it might be too soon cus if recency bias, give it some time maybe
I'm bad at murder mysteries. Or any kind of detective stuff. If I can follow the story it is a surprise for me. I can do it 1/3 of the time. How it Pluto in this mental puzzle regard?
So the thing is it is fairly complex of a mystery and there is a bit to follow BUT it literally explains all of it in the very last episode. Like one of the characters basically walks you through what actually happened and reveals it all. It’s pretty accessible just a complex start but shines in it’s simpler stories.
Yea I’d definitely say so, I mean in the grand scheme it’s much shorter so it’s hard to compare in that sense, but it has everything that makes those works great, with an amazing plot and deeper themes. I haven’t caught up on 20th century boys but I have finished monster and I’d say it’s on par for sure
Yea I was comparing the Vietnam war to Astro boy which aired around that time and in turn inspired Pluto. Though I understand the Iraq war is the one for one comparison for Pluto, I’m sure there are hints of other wars as well, including the Vietnam war
It was ok. The concept and world are 10/10 but the story is a watered down version of Bladerunner and other scifi's. Brau1589 was my favorite character.
I could see that, but personally I find it’s plot more intricate than blade runner, as much as I love blade runner I see it’s story mostly rooted in what it means to be human. IMO Pluto expands on that and goes through effects of war, humanity, and a murder mystery at the same time. I still love blade runner just as much tho, cinematography in that is undefeated and great story
I really loved the show, but damn, it came kind of at the wrong time. Around at the same time, Aot finale aired, and a bit before that was Vinland Saga season 2. I don't think this one is gonna make it.
That’s 100%, realistically I don’t think it can even win AOTY cus of the people that watched it let alone, is probably less than those other anime. But I believe it’s a true contender, but the winner is probably Vinland or AOT or JJK
am i crazy? because i watched all of pluto and i thought it was okay. Like it was good, but not a masterpiece for me. I respect it for sure, but, it didn't land with me. I feel like I'm missing something.
I mean at the end of the day all we got are our opinions. So I’m not gonna say you missed anything, maybe it’s just not your type of anime. Now I couldn’t say it was okay and objectively it’s hard to say that but if that’s how u feel then 🤷♂️
@@AntiKash Thanks for your reply- It's odd because I'm usually quite down for this stuff, Metropolis (2001) is one of my all-time favorites! I think, as I look back on it all, I get it more- so I might need a second watch. Maybe it all boils down to the fact that I'm allergic to flowers so Sahad's dream was like a nightmare to me lol
oh wow that allergy is definetly part of it, the flowers are supposed to show hope and innocence in his dream that was met with war. also a second watch is def worth it, theres plenty of layers to the story imo@@Lakatu
I'm not interested because of the art style. I want to see classic Tezuka art style with modern animation. Not modern anime style with modern animation. I want to see the contrast. There's something magical about seeing old art styles coming alive with modern technology of animation and new techniques to animate stuff. I mean, Tezuka art style was outdated already by the 80's, yet even 00's anime kept his art style. Idk, are they trying to get new audience, because they don't want to scare them away with old art style?
That’s fair but I think they didn’t do that because this is mostly Urusawas work. He had written Pluto as a mature reimagination of Astro boy, of course without Tezuka this wouldn’t exist, but this is primarily from Urasawa and drawn in his style which they animate well imo
@@AntiKash I see, that's nice ^^ I'm just still waiting for a modern anime in classic Tezuka style, it's been a while. Tho, i don't quite understand what you mean by "Mature reimagination", original Astro Boy manga is also mature.
@KeyleeTamirian nah ur right, I was referring more to the anime that I remember of Astro boy was kind of kids base, although it’s been a while since i watched it and I remember it had mature themes as well, just remember it being marketed later on as a kids product aka inspired mega man and then the kids movie in America that came out
To me, it felt like an average anime, although it had a lot of potential to be a great anime. The first six episodes were pretty good, although in the middle it got kind of slow and sidetracked with other plotlines. The last two episodes.... Idk what to say, they felt like marvel superheroe movie converted into an anime. The actions didn't look good, it was just an average hero vs villain fight in the end. It had many elements to tell a complex and engaging story, but in the end made everything so simple and one dimensional. I would have liked it more if it ended maintaining the crime detective thriller type of tone, with some deep underlying things about the difference between robots and human. It was disappointing to see such a story end in so generic fasion.
I could see that honestly, I made this video before I had finished it and yea even I was a little dissapointed with the direction it started to go in. Specifically the dialogue, by the end it felt a bit forced overall, but I do appreciate the show as a whole and I still really enjoyed it
That honestly makes sense, I haven’t read the manga but I could tell that the anime had condensed the work given the length of the episodes and with the added great soundtrack and voice acting, as well as visuals, it was amazing.
Okay so I really liked most of it -- I'd say it had really high quality, 10/10 writing for episodes 1-7. I didn't like the dialogue and the experience while watching the final ep. It felt like a downgrade 😂
Fair honestly, I loved the overall ending and the theme of hatred but I thought specific scenes could’ve been done differently. Spoiler * But for both atom recovering and Pluto becoming the sort of hero, I wish there was a bit more of a build up into that. And specific dialogue wise, I would’ve rather atom obliterating Pluto in a fight and then a quick flashback of the other 6 robots, because the one by one flashback wasn’t very fitting imo and slowed the fight down a bit. That aside it was in no way bad enough to take away from my experience and still easily one of my favs I’ve seen this year.
I was saying the same exact thing in another comment, still loved the show overall but for such great writing certain parts in the end fell a little flat for me. I thought the message of hatred was great but just not executed as well as it could have tbh
The director, Toshio Kawaguchi, is also one of the most important animators in the industry. Anyone who looks at his credentials on ANN will be in awe of what he's worked on.

@@Ez.bake_evan Vinland saga is a 9/10 anime Pluto is a 10/10 imo
@@grishajaeger9827after the first season of Vinland I thought the second was mostly boring tbh, I feel the people that like it most have already read the manga.
This is simply a masterpiece.
SAY IT LOUDER FOR THE PEOPLE IN THE BACK ‼️
I want a 20th Century Boys anime. Hopefully Pluto will do good.
That would be sick, the fan made one already looked amazing, hopefully the same team that worked on Pluto can do the same
i feel like 20th cb and billy bat are somehow too controversial ish to be bravely picked up by a studio.
really? I still gotta check it out but what is it thats controversial cus i feel like theres a lotta controversial adaptations out there@@aahhhhhhhhhhhhh
Finished it last night, absolutely fantastic anime. One of the best I've seen in a long, long time. Shame it pretty much bombed and nobody's really talking about it though, not even anime-based content creators. I wonder what happened.
Fr the coverage is lackin I guess cus it’s not a mainstream anime, but I honestly don’t know, it deserves more coverage, that’s for sure.
I haven't watched this yet but Blue eye samurai was pretty damn good so this definitely has some competition
BES was a great addition to the netflix anime game and I'd highly reccomend this as well. Netflix is on another level recently when it comes to anime.
@@AntiKash I agree I'm definitely going to check this one out thanks
ofc man hope you enjoy it, let me know how you feel about it after@@Toypapi
This will win best anime of 2023. No doubt
Righttt, I’m literally just finishing it now and my opinion hasn’t changed a bit. There’s some great completion but In my eyes nothing is like Pluto at the moment.
i hope Billy Bat gets an Anime Adaptation its one if my favourite Mangas.
That would be fire ‼️
This is the first and only anime I know of that mentions the city of Zaandam (I grew up there as a kid)
It felt so strange to me, but its also kinda cool
That’s sick, whenever shows do that it adds another level to it even though it may be a small detail, my parents are from Sri Lanka so any time I hear about it anywhere, makes me proud
I finished this anime in so little time and I will be rewatching the shit out of it
brooo same, Im literally still watching it only because I dont want to finish it. Nothings going to be same after I finish it.
makes me wonder whats next for astro boy
Frrr it’s so good I have no idea
Anime of the decade for me
Easilyyyyy, so compact but so full of beautiful content, one of the best I’ve seen in a while
My first experience with his work was Monster but i found Pluto and it become one of my favorite Manga.
20th century boys is 100% on my list too, heard nothing but good things about it
imagine an anime adaptation of 20th century boys with this quality
Already top 5 in my books. Had it in my manga readlist for a long time but didn't have the time cause of schoolworks then opened my netflix one day and it was there lmao. Urasawa the goat🐐🐐
Factsss, Urasawa only writes masterpieces and this adaptation was made with such dedication I literally can’t name a flaw, there’s obviously recency bias but I also gotta say this shit is top tier already
More proof why Naoki Urasawa is the goat of animanga 🔥🔥🔥
Factualll, that man do not miss
New sub ! Can't wait to dive into this thanks
THANK U 🙏🙏🙏🙏 and lmk how it goes I loved it, def worth it imo
Nah this anime was a masterpiece. The story, the art, the music. Just beautiful. Just finished it today 😊
It really is bro like they didn’t miss on a single thing, genuinely a masterpiece
The way the depicted the Robots and humanized them was amazing and I thought numerous things were going to be predictable only to subvert my expectations and that made the emotionally bonding with the characters and expectations much better. For example spoiler
When episode 6 I, think I was the most stunned when Gesicht died, and I thought the way they were showing that episode his wife was going to die but no he died I was left shocked because I didn't expect it.
For realll, that’s another thing that I have to acredit to naoki, he pulls you in with a great idea and then expands so much on that story. I noticed that in monster way back and continue to see that in pluto
Man this anime is a Masterpiece this is coming from a Berserk adorer this thing is flawless
Love to hear that, I also agree ofc
this and kingdom of ruin are the only shows that i genuinely enjoy this time around but this anime is already in my top 10
Great picks and I feel the same, Pluto is very recent but too good too just leave out of the top 10, I’m sure once I rewatch again it’ll easily be in the top 5
Commentary on war on Iraq was ballsy but exactly what i loved from full metal alchemist
Ong, it worked so well tho in telling the entire message of the story, the invasion showed everything that’s wrong with war and the root of all wars is always hatred.
I never felt it was an hour each episode at all. I grew up with Astroboy and I loved theynused his original name.
Exactly, I usually hate the longer runtime on Netflix but with Pluto I could barely tell, it’s a one of a king manga and anime
*the Paul holy clip got messed up cus of copyright but go check out ep 1, this is one of the best anime I’ve seen in the past couple of years tbh. Im also a feen for psychological thrillers
You just don't miss! Glad you did a video on this. Urusawa is one of my biggest writing inspirations, so it's awesome that you covered this. Keep up the great work homie!
🙏🙏🙏ayy thank u famm, and I already know your writings great off that alone, he’s such a good writer and has this specific style that just captures me every time. Thank u again fam and keep up the writing, who knows maybe we got the next urasawa right here!
6:30 WHAT!?!? I agree it's up there for AOTY but god dayum. Finish the show first before making a learner's manuel.
I made this a month ago my guy when it had been out but barely talked about, also a small channel and a hidden gem and a packed schedule, I get it tho, when I got time I try to finish the works, but I seen enough of Pluto to try to get it more attention
@@AntiKash Glad to hear about it. I'll definitely be checking it out. I'd be interested on seeing your thoughts after you've seen the entire show
I usually am sceptical in a lot of the stuff i have comsumed recently. I kinda liked spiderman 2, didnt finish Lords of the fallen fully, barely started lies of p and havent finished an anime, that wasnt Weekly for over a year, yet this i finished in 2 days. This is one of the few times i might give a Series 10/10. I absolutely loved it.
Hearing nothing but facts, Pluto was really just that good and as a fellow skeptic I could easily agree
Was on the fence watching it, but now I know it is from the creator or Monster I will watch it for sure.
Yup naoki is a legend id def reccomend it
@@AntiKash I seen it advertised on netflix and thought it was going to be another run of the mill netflix animes.
@@joegaffney8006 of course, If I hadnt know it was one of Urasawas I would of thought the same.
Pluto… kind of like the previous Netflix show Arcane. I went into it not reading any of the Manga or knowing who Astro Boy was. All I can say is the show is ver very good.
Exactly like arcane, Netflix produces bangers at least in recent anime, my expectation was not high for either but both are going down in my books as some of the best of all time
This anime kept me up all night
Would love to see your take on the whole series if you finished the whole thing!!
Oohh I have but I gotta think of something to make the video on exactly, I personally loved it through and through and my expectations were met the whole time. Some slight issues with the ending but overall amazing. Again a follow up sounds like a great idea, I think after I cover invincible, frieren, and JJK then I will likely come back to this
everyone go read Asadora! its what naoki urasawa is currenting making and its amazing so far
I have tooo! Can’t wait to check it out
I have to be honest I really love the manga but the adaptation is super 👌, now I have to read 20th century boys , I just know I won't be disappointed. Thank you for the video.
The adaptation is so good!!!! And Same here to I gotta check out 20th century boys, heard nothing but good things about it, and thank u for this comment 🙏
Straight up anime of the year
FACTSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
@@AntiKashfr bro. And you making a video on it only helps more people watch it. This is how more and more of his works can get adaptations. Keep it up!
its so underrated
Factssssss
bruh how do people hate 1hour episodes, are they crazy? it's just 3 in 1...
Bros spitting facts, my only gripe in the past was the wasted shots and time at points, but overall when it’s something like Pluto, an hour is needed
It’s between this and Vinland saga s2 for me
For sure, both have been the standouts for this year, I also think frieren right now and jujutsu kaisen are some sneaky competitors this season.
very Astro Boy, the 2 part ending of The Greatest Robot in the World. Loved it.
Safe to say it did the legendary anime Justice
The pluto manga started serialization around 2004, right around the height of the iraq invasion. Viewers will know how the 39th central asian war in the show and the search for "robots of mass destruction" are thinly veiled references to the war.
Yes I think people under 30 will mostly missed this Gulf War reference
I see I see, I assumed that they were referencing some type of war, didn’t know which. But from Astro boys description of war and timing I assumed it was the Vietnam war for Astro boy at least. I might be wrong tho but that’s interesting to hear about the Iraq invasion and gulf war, shows how detailed the work is and real
Well in actual manga it was Arabian sheik that created Pluto
Have you seen Pantheon? It's second season released this year and it has been one of my favorite animated series in a long time.
I haven’t yet but I’ve seen about it, and it’s also got a sick voice cast, I might have to check it out
Its incredible
10000%
This is Isaac Asimov. I-Robot, wrote in the 1950s. Well, a lot of it is.
It’s not the animation, matter a fact they’re animations have been amazing, but they need a change over there
oh my god the comments are just shounen fans, just go back to jjk or smth
The amount of people calling this boring is beyond me 😭
It really is one of the best anime or even series ever
Facts bro it came out so fkin good

Factual statement
I'm not a fan of Robot ,Cyborg or any other human machine stories. But I'll watch it because of the legendary Naoki Urasawa.
Let’s goooooo
Very weird for Pluto to be adapted before 20thCB and Billy Bat
True I just think Pluto is shorter tbh and that’s why
@@AntiKash also AI is a hot topic nowadays
Wow wow wow wow, let’s not get ahead of ourselves here. Frieren is the anime of the year.
That’s probably true I’m not caught up atm but hearing great things, I’m between this jjk and frieren
well basically there will be no Mega man/Rock man if Astro boy never exist
1000%
I'm bad at murder mysteries. Or any kind of detective stuff. If I can follow the story it is a surprise for me. I can do it 1/3 of the time. How it Pluto in this mental puzzle regard?
So the thing is it is fairly complex of a mystery and there is a bit to follow BUT it literally explains all of it in the very last episode. Like one of the characters basically walks you through what actually happened and reveals it all. It’s pretty accessible just a complex start but shines in it’s simpler stories.
If there is one thing monster and Pluto nail is the Dub voices
100% they got a legend in Keith David in it and even more. Great cast sub and dub
Is Pluto as good as Monster and 20th century Boys?
Yea I’d definitely say so, I mean in the grand scheme it’s much shorter so it’s hard to compare in that sense, but it has everything that makes those works great, with an amazing plot and deeper themes. I haven’t caught up on 20th century boys but I have finished monster and I’d say it’s on par for sure
This also have urasawa problem bad ending
Yea unfortunately the ending was a bit anticlimactic but I still enjoyed it overall
Anime of the year!!

The war in Pluto is more a parallel to the Iraq War than Vietnam.
Yea I was comparing the Vietnam war to Astro boy which aired around that time and in turn inspired Pluto. Though I understand the Iraq war is the one for one comparison for Pluto, I’m sure there are hints of other wars as well, including the Vietnam war
meets METROPOLIS
For me its blue eye samurai
Fair enough
am i crazy? because i watched all of pluto and i thought it was okay.

@@AntiKash I see, that's nice ^^
I'm just still waiting for a modern anime in classic Tezuka style, it's been a while.
Tho, i don't quite understand what you mean by "Mature reimagination", original Astro Boy manga is also mature.
@KeyleeTamirian nah ur right, I was referring more to the anime that I remember of Astro boy was kind of kids base, although it’s been a while since i watched it and I remember it had mature themes as well, just remember it being marketed later on as a kids product aka inspired mega man and then the kids movie in America that came out
North No.2 is the best character.
Factssssssss, they hit us with the most compelling story ever so early, I’ll never forget north no 2 😭
To me, it felt like an average anime, although it had a lot of potential to be a great anime.
Specifically the dialogue, by the end it felt a bit forced overall, but I do appreciate the show as a whole and I still really enjoyed it
My god the manga was boring. I only finished half of the volumes. The anime is perfect tho, I finally know how the story ended.
Spoiler *
But for both atom recovering and Pluto becoming the sort of hero, I wish there was a bit more of a build up into that.
Yea it’s great
💯💯💯
I feel like the end could have been better, it felt like an american movie ( boring ). But still loved Gesicht amazing character
I was saying the same exact thing in another comment, still loved the show overall but for such great writing certain parts in the end fell a little flat for me. I thought the message of hatred was great but just not executed as well as it could have tbh
