While it’s not personally Coutinho’s fault, his transfer was the main trigger that made everything accelerate downhill even further.
Barca would spend 27% of their total debt on one player who they would waste, quickly loan out, then eliminate them in their worst loss ever, causing more frustration and unwise spending.
(We all know Barca’s poor management decisions are the real reason)

No, it's the other way around. Barcelona ruined Coutinho. If you buy a player of that caliber, you need to play the team around him or at least let him to play with the style he was familiar with. If you don't even have the right to take a shot, you could not score. Unfortunately for Coutinho, there was only one focus in Barca at that time, and that was Messi. Barca didn't build a strategy that gave Coutinho space to shine. He was only used as an ordinary player to man his post, and that was not his advantage. To some extent today's Barca is still the same. They don't know how to build a team letting everyone shine. Rather they are still playing a football that is fifteen years old.

Yea it’s not that simple, coutinho didn’t fail at barca because he lost his form, he failed because he didn’t have a place in Barcelona, it destined to fail from the start, one of the dumbest signings ever, I never wanted him at barca, not because he want good I actually though he was ridiculously good world class player, but he’s an attacking midfielder, barca doesn’t play with traditional attacking midfielders, we play with creative and high press midfielders, coutinho could never fulfill that role, nor could we play him as attacking midfielder, there was a certain someone called Messi on that team Messi was a free roaming attacking midfielder/winger/forward, but most of the time he was in attacking midfielder zone, so where was coutinho supposed to play ? Not as CM not as Left winger, he was never a winger not a true winger like the ones barca needs, there was never a place for him at barca, bartomeu signed him because 1 he’s dumb and 2 he knew this signing would create a lot of hype

Id argue also giving Messi an albatross of a contract with a new extention each season after 2015 was a contributing factor. After that the inability to transition from an aging core of fantastic players just deepend the problem.

barca used to play like a team up until 16/17...team didnt play FOR lionel Messi...yes team might be built around messi but team didnt play for him....everyone played their game helped the team....after the departure of neymar and after Iniesta started declining.. things massively changed...whoever watched 17/18 season knew coutinho played extremely well... almost justified his price tag.... he played in his natural position.... but after that everything changed... team started to play for Messi
messy played as rw,cm,cam,rm in the team and the respective players in those positions sacrificed their positions for him as they have to... didn't play their game... pass to Messi... that's it...messsi isn't the one to be blamed... managers were utterly clueless and incapable of managing a club like Barca... they didn't have their ideas and simply relied on Messi to carry them giving him all the positional freedom he wants at the cost of others.... any football team that solely plays FOR one player is a recipe for disaster...u can build rhe teaM around a player like Madrid did with Ronaldo... that's why they are still winning... Barca without anything just crumbled cuz no players have the habit of holding responsibility

I disagree here, if u keenly analyse you'll understand that the day Xavi left Barcelona FC the day it started its downward spiral.
Pep's influence on Barcelona was a hangover (after he left) that only Xavi managed.
Barcelona FC became vulnerable after they lost possession during Non-Spanish European clubs & succumbed to counters & fast paced attacks.
Rakitic was more skilled than Xavi but he couldn't set tempo of the game (Iniesta without Xavi was useless)
For me Pep Guardiola rather built Barcelona FC wrt Xavi as pivot & game's tactics (though people think it's Messi), Pep Guardiola himself misjudged this fact to think it was Messi. Thus after Xavi left Barcelona FC appeared clueless the very next game (2016 Barcelona was strongest team way stronger than Real Madrid yet u could see them being fully vulnerable that PSG made them overwork & Roma kick them out later)

Liverpool won't be the strong team that used to be without this controversial transfer. They used a payload of money from Coutinho for VVD, Alisson, and Fabinho; all 3 being the key players for Liverpool that won the Champions League in 2018/19 and Premier League in 2019/20. They also caused a final straw of Barcelona's decline with the infamous Anfield game on the 2nd leg semifinal of 2018/19, winning 4-0 after being 0-3 down at Camp Nou.

I'm a catalan culé so I can speak from the general feelings of those days. When PSG "robbed" us Neymar, we went crazy looking for substitutes, that when looking in hindsight, we didn't really need. They tried to appease the fans by buying dembelé and coutinho, for actually more money combined than the transfer of Neymar.
That's one of the poor managenement decisions, but there are more. Almost all players were receiving an exagerated salary and of course they didn't want to move. The "success" of player's contracts renovation, always presented grandiously, was in the long term a big failure. Remember Umtiti, for example... RMFC is more intelligent in doing short contracts with their players.
Truly a loss for us, we hope to one day, clean up our debt, finish our new stadium, and win the UCL once again.
What we will never forgive is the loss of our biggest star, Messi, in the middle of the covid pandemia. Not even one act of farewell. He was my only icon and I was broken.

The reason is they played with millions and had brain of 5 year old. Griezman is best when he is centre of team. Coutinho role with Leo is difficult because they does some similar role when Messi dropped deep. So that's putting these players out of thier strength role and giving them supporting role to Messi. And mentally too weak when team go down. Xavi was the guy who did it from 09 and Messi had little pressure. When Xavi goes the power of MSN was thier to hold them. And Suarez prime ended Neymar left slowly Barca bece weak. Somehow they did well in league until 19 because Messi can do well in small games his magic.

Same with Coutinho, Malcolm and more. Barcelona fans were too optimistic. The leadership of the club is of course the same. This is the risk of having a club run by fans. (Not that in Germany clubs are run differently.)

In attempt to get Liverpool's four best offensive players on the field at the same time Coutinho became part of a mid-field three. Things didn't click immediately and there certainly were some tough passages. You could see after a few games that things were getting figured out by the players and coaches and that having all of Liverpool's Fab Four playing together made them them a *very* dangerous offense. The end of that experiment came when Barca come calling and gave Liverpool 150 mill with the apparent belief that Cotinhuo would be a world class midfielder in their squad.

When I first saw the image of the video on youtube, I wanted to agree with you in some way, only that I thought it was about Messi, but I was somehow disappointed when I saw that everything was about Coutinho. First of all , in all football history, there is no bigger reason for a club to decline then bad management , secondly the disappearance of a golden generation, without being able to be quickly replaced by another and if we still want to talk about players, no one has sucked more money from Barcelona than Messi (probably in all club's history), taking into account what he did for the club that doesn't really matter much, I think the main reason was the disappearance of the generation that the club had without other players of the same value to replace them, and the poor management that probably the club had at that time ,another very big reason for a club to struggle , look Man.Utd case after Ferguson who was taking care of everything there, or Chelsea or Juventus I don't think it can ever be the fault of a single player for the decadence of a club, i firmly disagree with u on this one

Saying that Coutinho was the crucial point in Barça's downfall is foolish, because Coutinho's signing itself was caused by a domino effect way bigger that changed the whole football world, which was Neymar's transfer to PSG. Now we are talking about something that broke not only Barcelona (because they couldn't find a proper replacement and had to spend high), but also all the transfer fees around the world... Coutinho and Dembelé included.
