Hey Derek thanks for sharing trade tips....i have done most everything in remodeling but had to research cutting granite for a sink and wanted to say thanks for breaking it down so thoroughly!
Thanks William, I'm self taught! I never had tons of 💸 to hire the pros so I just figure things out on my own. Sometimes I fail (ok I fail a lot), but its what you can take away from your failures that helps you succeed. You gotta have faith in yourself and your abilities, and never let the naysayers get under your skin. Glad you enjoyed the video buddy. Happy fabricating!
Now I know why the granite countertop companies charge so much! We're going to be installing new cabinets this weekend (doubling the size of our kitchen). After that is done, it will cost us about $8,000 for the granite work, just under 100 sq ft of total surface.
Thanks for sharing. Appreciate the tips. I’ve got. Sink to drop into a marble vanity too and thanks to this Vid, I’m going to buy the blades and bits to do it myself. Keep On Keepin’ On.
I got mine at Lowes but I'm sure any big box store or Amazon would carry it. Good video. Is plywood always needed under the top, I am using quartz on a kitchen counter and I need to cut out for a farm sink. Can you add a link for the cutting blades, holesaw and polishing pads?
I'm surprised to see your use of an angel grinder to make all of your cuts. It seems a diamond blade in a circular saw would be a far more accurate way to do the cuts.
All, I start with 50 grit to finish the shapping and get all the cut marks out. Then go to 100,200,400,800,1000,1500,2000, 3000/buff then polishing compound. Too save money if needed, at first you can purchase every other grit. Just like sanding anything it all depends on the material hardness you are working with. Lighter colored stones are more fragile and can sand and also break easy. Dark colored stone is more dense and takes a bit longer to sand (but more forgiving for a new fabricator). The reason you want to gradually step up is to get all the fine scratches out that each pad will leave. For example, your 100 grit may take out all of the 50 grit scratches, but will leave 100 grit grooves that a 200 grit can get out easier than a 400 grit (400 will just take longer). Happy fabricating Romeo!
@@derekgalenti9811 you don't use diamond polishing pads on marble. Light coloured stone only requires 60, 120, 220, 400, 800 and then a rag buff with wax.
And you see how the stone has blown out along the bottom/underside edge? To prevent that you can either 1.cut halfway through the stone from the top then cut it from the underside. 2. Cut 3mm inside the cutout line and then grind it back using a silicon carbide grinding wheel. 3. Put a huge aris/bevel on the bottom edge 4. Mix up crushed marble with glue, refill and then polish back.
great!! now everyone has to pass this information to the local -tv new and the reporter will try to bring awareness to the community, please do it i have plenty of work may be 30 days you have a report to why to remember the new NEC CODE had already change for island or peninsula, because many babies 2-3 yrs old had died or fatal injuries had occurred the question is can you file the report. Remember to do the best you can and forget the rest.
eso es un desastre pones agua 💧 para acer los huecos y luego cortas en secó y te vas ala línea con el sabes cuántos chips lo iciste por debajo a simple vista se ve el sink chueco en realidad no sabes nada
Thank you! I feel so much more confident to give this a go now. Feels a bit more “foolproof” than some others I’ve seen. Nice work

Perfect!!! Thanks
why did you spend so much time polishing the inside, if you are just putting a sink in that spot?
They're undermount sinks, so the inside radius edge will be exposed.
