I do kind of hate how much of a fad fidget toys became, because now that the fad has died it's harder for neurodivergents to get ahold of them. The selection on Amazon is a lot more limited now, and more expensive than it had been. Plus, physical stores don't carry them anymore.
It’s also caused them to be banned in schools which means neurodiverse people might not be able to concentrate without fidget toys. Of course I brake the rules and bring them in anyway but technically they are banned
I actually had a really cool health teacher one year that personally bought fidget toys because it was quite obvious that a solid 90% of the people in my class either had a hard time focusing or definitely had some form of ADHD. The really cool thing was what prompted that: one of the kids brought a fidget cube and she actually noticed how much everyone liked it and would pass it around while they would do their work...that's a good, observant teacher and guess what...they worked AMAZINGLY usually people would be bouncing off the walls but it was like a night and day difference of everyone actually sitting still and doing their work!!
@@butterbun7033 I'm glad it was effective. I just wish it hadn't been such a popular, "toy," amongst neurtotypicals. Because some schools started banning them, and now that they aren't popular anymore, no one's making them. People would fake having adhd or anxiety at my school just to be able to take a fidget to school which bothered me to the max cause they would make fun of me for having a chewy in class for my adhd
Or, more likely, you have no idea what these people have or haven't been diagnosed with because you aren't around them all the time and have no idea what their home life is like. For all you know these people could have adhd or anxiety and be quite high functioning and in that case you'd be invalidating their experiences- which is pretty not cool. Just because someone doesn't act the way you want them to doesn't mean they don't have a diagnosis. I've spent a lot of my life not being heard about my issues because I looked too normal on the outside and people assumed I was faking it until I had a complete mental break from continually being ignored and shunned.
