You made a very good point about not just matching the old rod due to cut.....like most people do. Also when you get a bent pushrod that lazy copy the guy before method wont work. I usually mark a line and port with a marker so i dont mix the lines up
Very nice explanation and procedure! I noticed the bushing on the S-cam was worn, you can see that when you applied and released the brakes (around 4:20), S-cam shaft moving out of position.
I just did one of these today. I caged the brake chamber, then measured the length of the rod on the old one. I then cut it on the new one since it was already caged.
Usually have to get a torch and heat it up to be able to unscrew it off, bec they’re usually frozen. I put a little bit of anti seize on the threads whenever I put them back together
U were taking it apart or something for it to explode? Bec I’ve changed a hell of a lot brake cans and the only one that came apart and bit me was the one that my dumb a** was trying to take apart bec I cut the rod to short. So I figured that I would swap the old rod out of the old brake can and put it into the new one since I was an idiot and cut it to short. Needless to say it came apart and hit me in the gut and knocked my wind out lol. I was really young whenever that had happened, my first brake can swap and I learned a valuable lesson that day… I still can’t believe that I was that dumb lol
@@RV83313 diaphragm was leaking and it was rusted to hell so we decided to replace the whole thing and the old guy I work with always likes to take them off off and put air to it with a pipe fitting to extend the push rod out and right when it got pushed all the way out it blew apart and blew a hole in the ceiling 20 foot above us, my face was about 10 inches away from it and I felt the air from it go by my face
Cool video :D Replace a Brake Camber is not that hard :D You can do it in an easier way. Take the old Camber, measure the length, lets say it was 24,8 cm. Then you mark 24,8 at the new one, cut whit tha grinder, mount the new one and attach it to the rest. Then you have more space to cut instead of do it under the trailer or were you are replacing ti from ;)
Just as a rule, I never trust the length of the previous rod as the measurement of the new rod. I've had to replace a newly installed brake chamber which was improperly cut on a road repair. The new chamber rod had been cut too short and did not function properly.
Christ I had to watch this video again after the peterbilt frame stretch series to remember how bad this was. If this whole fiasco isn’t a testimony to your character I don’t know what is.

Definitely wasn’t doing that before. Screw might got cut short I don’t know 🤷🏼♂️
Most mechanics dont bother to check the whole system, they fix whats obvious and move on.they don’t care
This is a very old video and I'm seeing it for the 1st time but thank you so much. You made changing a chamber so easy and very great advice! ❤❤❤❤
Wow, 20+ years in fleet service and I've never seen a brake chamber cage. Awesome.
Makes me feel good that mine didn’t. Just thought I wasn’t lucky! Lol
One of the best explained videos on how to mark and cut a brake chamber.
Definitely like and subscribed.
Thanks for making good content

So
You plug air in
Remove the slack adjuster
Plug air out
Remove the 2 air lines
And then remove mounting bolts
Great video! I love watching all of your mechanical videos and I must say they really help me a lot!
Thanks! I'll be doing my best to keep them coming
Glad to hear this! I hope you can do a lot more man.
Whats a slack adjuster gauge?
Really Good Vid! Lots of info, well presented and excellent video quality. THANKS
Thanks again. I'll try and keep them coming
Great Video very useful, appreciate your time to make it
Is that a container ocean trailer?
How do you clock a chamber like that?
Sound stupid but how do you remove air from chamber once slack adjuster is off?
The airlines are still on
Finally good proper video
Great job
How did you get the clevis off?

Just had one explode right in front of my face today , scared the shit outta me

DieselMechTech ohh okay, that could my workplace lern from :D
Exercising extreme caution would be CAGING the chambers before fuckin with them!

These videos need to be filtered off of RUclips. This one stays tho. Even accuride did it wrong😂
How did u screw the clevis to the rod?
Great job
