    For me it matters a lot the fact that the new version has much less filters. I live in a place where FM spurious is massive. I have some radios that a deemed useless due to FM breakthrough unless I use external loop antennas or external FM notch filters such as RTL Stop FM. I have the original XHdata D-808. Whereas it does not have the best FM breakthrough rejection compared to Sony portable radios such as the ICF-SW7600G and SW7600GR or even older radios such as the Zenith Trans Oceanic 3000-1 and Grundig Satellit 6001, it still can be managed.

      Thanks for your comment Julio, I can understand why you prefer the version with more filters. I haven't tested the new one, so I don't really know how it would perform. Have you seen any reviews or videos that refer to FM breakthrough on the new version?

    Ive heard that the newer USB c model is marginally better at times than the older version, perhaps because its dsp chip has an outer shielding.

      That is true, I have heard the same thing. It's not better on MW, but many reports say it is a bit better on SW, and with slightly better sound also.

    My D-808 is according to your findings the new version. However it has faulty RDS time sync. The hour is always 5 hours behind. It's not a weak FM signal, I checked with many FM stations, constantly off. I contacted XHdata customer support and they replied: live with it (and disable auto sync).

    • @swlistening

      That's not very good customer service though ... If you really feel strongly about this you might consider making a case through PayPal, it is an obvious fault, you can indicate on PayPal that the radio is faulty.

    Thank you for that informative video. I just pressed the power button and held it and did not power off or on as you demonstrated. A quick press of the orange colored power switches the radio on, and the same to power off. So I’m pretty sure I have the new version. No complaints here.

    Well, I bought my D-808 in 2018 (IIRC), and while I can see the display can light up the Timer word, I've never seen its shown, and frankly, I don't know how to activate it even though I do use sleep timer on regular basis 😂
    Long-press the power button doesn't work - the radio simply powers up as soon as I start pressing it.
    Of course I have a micro-USB port in my unit.
    Finally one more curiosity to add even more confusion... my display backlight is light blue, not orange like yours 😂

      The very first versions had the blue display, then it changed to amber for some years. You need to select each "band" for tuning. There is some overlap on either side in each band. So, I suppose, not 100% continuous tuning, but sort of 🙂

    I find it confusing now that the XHData has a Sihuadon label on the D-808. Even their website shows it and lists it as XHDATA/Sihuadon D-808. I've always been of the school that different name badges mean different radios no matter how similar they look. Maybe that's how they get around with the changes? Tweak the name and change the insides. I guess if someone's radio says Sihuadon on it that would be a "newer" version? Thanks for following your own path and not falling in line with the other RUclips professionals.

    • @swlistening
      @swlistening  Год назад +1

      Thank you so much for your comment! I like to research a bit before I publish stuff, it's so easy to jump on the bandwagon without real proof. About the Sihuadon/XHDATA confusion, I saw a video made by the XHDATA people themselves where they explained that the two radios are exactly the same. The difference is cosmetic, radio colour. But I don't know if that is entirely true. On some of the SW discussion sites users have commented that the new XHDATA radios have all kinds of different features, some have micro USB ports but the new RF circuit board. Others have USB C-type but the old board. It is all very confusing. Some users argue that maybe XHDATA is trying to use up all their old parts, so the radio you get in the end will be put together from old and new parts. So no way really to know what you are getting.
      By the way, I saw a nice video on your channel today of the Grundig Mini 100 World. I have the Tecsun version of that one, the Tecsun R808. Like you, I was really bowled over by the performance of that little thing. It's tiny, but very good!
