  • In his late 50s and early 60s, Bill developed severe hip pain. Doctors told him he had FAI (femoroacetabular impingement). His physical therapists said he'd never walk normally again because of his hip deformity. This is the story of how he fixed his hip impingement without surgery.

    A few months ago I had a work related hip injury. I was on a stroller for over a month. Gradually, with walking and stretching exercises I am almost walking normal and I am doing small jobs around the house. I did not go to a doctor. One of the best kept secrets in medicine, is, "given the right circumstances, the body heals itself."

    Yep, constantly inspired by this channel/your videos. Don't necessarily follow your procedures all the time but the constant reminder that surgery isn't inevitable and improvement can happen keeps me pushing on and have started to make improvements in my own situation as well.

    I can tell you one thing.5 years ago I had a foot drop from research I went to chiropractic. AFTER evaluation ,and MRI,hip bursitis, lower back ,sciatica,poor core,pelvic syndrome, so after changing diet and 3months of PHYSICAL therapy, I'm less pain ,now I must use a cane to walk .But I knew I need more.So I keep researching, now later on from sleep on one side and impaired balance,I got tight shoulder and knee pain but inner tight area of the knee.It was my left weak side then later now my right knee not my left .pain is back I cut more of my carb intake and fruits ( my weakness ),sadly pain is less but not gone.I do STRETCHES and walk but it gets bearable, so I found these video to adjust ANTERIOR PELVIS TILT ,and other video like the squat and stretch about 2/3weeks truly ,honestly dping the dead bug ,the squat ,half lunge and stretch, now I feel my body like before I got pregnant, YES.I'm a Muslim, I can do our PHYSICAL prayer ritual daily ,in which you stand ,now then go down to prostrate then sit to come back up .Slowly using the pelvic correction I get to do my prayers and get out of bed easily now less stiffness, better balance and no KNEE PAIN .Even I can do 4 blocks walk without using my cane ,only in less than a month.Thank you for these videos .I'm 49 yrs now ,been on and off in pain for 24 yrs since first childbirth. SO THIS MEANS SO MUCH .I'm blessed and GRATEFUL. Thank you for these videos.better adjustments, better balance, no pain.

    I pulled my hip flexor on Sunday now I can barely walk how long should I wait before I try to exercise and stretch.
    At this moment I am icing and adding warm compresses I feel completely disable and I don’t want to make it worse starting to stretch and exercise too soon.
    I have your hip program and it has helped me a lot I just don’t know when I should get started again any advice 🤷🏻‍♂️

    thank you for sharing this man's story. I was diagnosed with hip osteoarthritis even though I still have cartilage. I had an injury on my foot that led to this problem. I suspect it was because i was not walking properly. Now I cannot fully extend my leg and was told that is because of impingement that is being caused by bone spurs. I went to one very well known Orthopedic doctor in nyc who told me that i needed a hip replacement however he told me that he could not do the replacement unless i could figure out how to straighten my leg.
    that was over a year ago and I am still in the same predicament. I don't know what to do, i live with chronic pain and am really at the end of my rope. Are there any stories about people with something similar that were able to figure out what to do? I really want to be able to extend my leg and be pain free!

    Bill, i have a very similar situation that I believe was also cause by doing pigeon pose too often / long. I have had both hips peviously replaced. Now in the older hip, I am experiencing pain. My Surgeon aid my hip structure looks great via xray. Hip was fine for 10 years and now hurts after I did pigeon poase for about 6 months and I have very limited outward flexibility in my hip.
    where do I start?

    Lol in uk 🇬🇧 and have had exactly the same experience with our medical NHS had FAI op no difference- doing diy treatment on utube with smashwerx realignment exercising with Sonima fitness and upright health and it’s changed everything at 50 feeling better now than in years -
    diagnoses = sedentary life
    cure = exercise 😚

I'm from UK too, GP are kind of incompetent when it comes to stuffs like these lol I'm a qualified level 3 PT but my GP doesn't know that so she would recommend and say some ridiculous stuffs to me on what I should and should not be doing in terms of exercises and rehab.

      We plan to film an update in the coming months. Bill is doing very well. He's currently focusing on building up his deadlift strength. His hips are not bothering him. He's focused on building more strength and muscle. He's looking very, very buff - ESPECIALLY for a guy in his 60s. 😃

    So, as an English person I'd like to know if this bloke had opted for surgery what would that have cost him? Here in the UK both options - the surgery and the physio up to a point would have been free. (Surgery would have been free).

    I injured my knee playing basketball when I was 30 and I went to doctors , nothing help. At the end I got innersoles made for me and that worked until years later I injured same leg but this time my hip. Did not go to doctors because of financial issues. I used grape seed abstract and joint support pills.that help with pain.years later I injured same knee again and this time I could not move my leg.doctors said no more sport for me.I did some searching found this Chanel. I did 2 hip strength ting exercises for 2 year and hip pain is gone and now I can work on my knee pain

    I really don't like surgery to think of being slaughtered in your hips is no good. Right now I'm having my own physical.therapy I buy weight for my ankle I got yoga block 3 tennis ball have yoga mat & weight that I use for my legs I use gallin of water so I have to do if everyday. My company pushing me to have surgery but I hate to have it. So I just retire early im already 65 yrs.old how many months to go for my full retirement. To think of the cost of surgery & for going back & forth to the doctor. Which after your surgery u have that rehab it's painful to think why just do your physical therapy of ur own. That's the best I can do. In jesus name I pray AMEN

    How was his labrum on the MRI? One more occidental hip screwed by yoga. :D

    • @Uprighthealth
      @Uprighthealth  6 лет назад +6

      We'll double check when he's in again, but likely torn.
      Hip problems from yoga isn't a question of having an "occidental" or european hip. It's about learning how to properly control one's range of motion rather than going fully passive into stretched positions.
      It's about SMART mobility work.
      There are some experts claiming that "deep hip sockets" means some individuals CANNOT squat deep. They basically blame genetics for people's poor hip mobility. We've yet to see citations that actually demonstrate that correlation.
      It all sounds seductively plausible, but "your bone is too big to move your shoulder properly" is the same reasoning used for shoulder impingement diagnoses. That surgery and its justifications have all turned out to be shams.
      Same goes for "your spine is too arthritic to back bend."
      These are unproductive beliefs. Choose better ones.
      And train APPROPRIATELY.

    • @jorgemmmmteixeira
      @jorgemmmmteixeira 6 лет назад

      Thanks!
      Being "big" or not, doesn't really concern me. But if you have a hip anatomy that does allow only for 90º of flexion, without compensations, do you really think it will do well in yoga poses with so much flexion (without smart control)? it either has to come from the lombar or compression on the hip.
      The hip surgeon that works more closely with Joel Proskewitz, from backfitpro, states that 70% of his male patients that got hip replacement did yoga. He never replaced a indian hip.

    If you are an athlete don't listen to this crap if you want to continue sports at a decent competitive level you need surgery.

    • @Uprighthealth
      @Uprighthealth  4 года назад +4

      If you are an athlete you may want to read up on this article on return to sports and the effectiveness of FAI surgery.
      uprighthealth.com/hip-impingement-return-to-sports-athletics/
      TL;DR: surgery for FAI for athletes does not show great results.
