the 2013 movie is my absolute favorite and the gore in that is on another level - but this was SO much fun too! i've seen a bunch of behind the scenes pics and videos on twitter and the actors seemed to have so much fun filming this! instantly makes it more enjoyable to watch knowing they had a good time in this production!
2013 also was made on a shoestring budget with almost everything being practical effects. I believe the final sequence in that was also done in mostly one take due to said budget.

I really enjoyed this one. I liked that this film focused more on family and a bit of baggage that they had. We never really had children in the line of danger like this in the series and while we had characters that were siblings, we never actually see a theme about family. Which was a nice little change of pace. I think that is why the gore and violence was toned down just a bit. After all, no one wants to see children get killed in horror films. With that being said, this movie still had everything I wanted a movie like this. Good cast of characters for the most part, alot of amount of blood, gore and violence, subtle amount of humor, amazing cinematography, very good practical and makeup effects, really good camera shots. Loved the design of the Naturom Demonto here and liked the callbacks and easter eggs from the previous series. Another part I loved was the sublime musical score by composer Stephen Mckeon. Gave it a 9/10.
