Great vid. Billy Goats is one hell of a track! It’s also hair raising going back down. Good running commentary not overshadowed by unnecessary music. Liked and subscribed!
Nice video brought back memories, I drove that track 15 years ago in my Mitsubishi Challenger, manual, no Diff locks, no LSD, no driver aids. All I had was 2” lift, Coopers ST tyres and snorkel. You’ve inspired me to go back and do it again this time I’ll be in my Pajero Sport 😊
You pick the best year to go up Billy goats it was the most fun or I should say challenging that it's been a long time and those rivers were certainly up a lot at that time of year you're up there about the same time I was but I left the day before you got there excellent video keep up the good work
Thanks very much! Billy Goat was a huge amount of fun. Doing it on New Year’s Day meant there was no one else around. The rain arrived at the tail end of the trip. Stay tuned for the last episode as that is when things got really exciting 😊
Hello Attila, what a beautiful place ,i can't wait to get there myself, thankyou so much for making the footage, now I will be a little more prepared hopefully 😊
Absolutely fantastic mate! I'm definitely going to be tuning in for the next episode!. Thanks for taking us along amd it's awesome to see tne FJ in action!
Thankyou for sticking around whilst I’ve been in hibernation 😊 (work commitments). Plenty of more videos coming up (just out filming the next trip now).
Amazing start to the series, Artie! After some of those insane accents I reckon the FJ could probably handle Mount Everest too! Have been really looking forward to this series; again, well done for showing us parts of Australia most of us have never seen. You have indoors people like me craving for their own outback adventures! Keep the videos coming, can't wait till the next episode and for the next series too. Excellent work!
About 15 years ago on my first attempt at doing Billy goat I did most of it in 2wd as I stripped the front drive flange in my 80 series about 1/4 of the way through it. People thought i was crazy as I came up to the Helipad as I had it flat to the floor as fast as I could go with the 80 series bouncing and bucking all over the place to this day I don't know how I did it
Wow, that was spectacular. Magic looking countryside but that track is way out of my league. Thanks for posting this, I'm so looking forward to the next one. Love your channel.
@@4xAdventures did same trip over 4 days swb pajero. wet as hell. 30 years ago.so thanks for taking me back. incredible country sad not many aussie get to feel it.tks again
@@4xAdventures I think clearance is the only thing I'm really unsure of. The clearance is good but its not jacked up. It's stock. Low range and center diff lock though
Wow, great video, my Bro in law and I trail biked all over that terrain in the mid 70s, it hasn't changed a bit, still as rough as guts, but the views from the Bluff... are really awesome. But not sure I would do it mid Summer... March/April much cooler weather.
Great video mate, I’m no expert but even dropping another 5psi to 20 could have made things easier. Can’t wait to do this track soon, thanks for the inspiration
Thankyou! Yes, it may have made a small difference. Most of that track was ok though. My only wheel spin was that one spot & that was probably just because of a bad choice on my part :)
That brought back the anxiety I felt doing it on my own at xmas with no diff locks or traction control, exhilarating and terrifying are great descriptors. Ive no idea how i got up without breaking something but so worth it.
Awesome Artie! I was there on the 3rd of Jan, just missed you! Did the same route by the look of it, we crossed that same river before heading north of Dargo for a camp.
I was in the region not long after you I think mate. If its not a rude question why so long from trip till release? Great clip by the way. Cheers Steve
G’day Steve. Thankyou. Work commitments got in the way mostly. Also, I didn’t really have much of a chance to film properly as I was with a group of people, so trying to create something watchable from very limited snippets of footage was a challenge. 😊
Just stumbled upon your channel mate. You have a natural talent for media production is this your profession? Lol. Looking forward to the next instalment of the Vic high country...any idea if it's ETA? Cheers.
G’day Daryl, thanks very much! :) No, it’s not my profession, but I do try to make them as good as I can. I’m hoping to get the next instalment out in a week or two. All the best! 😊👍
Great video that was the most intense feeling climb of Billy Goat track ive seen on youtube. I assume you went back down to get to the Eaglevale Camping Area, or did you take a different route?
Thanks very much. Absolutely! The stock FJ with a set of all terrain tyres is all you need to do things like Billy Goat Track. A 2” lift lifts the body, but the chassis height is still the same, unless you put larger tyres. 😊👍
Question mate: How do you find doing these with the roof top tent? I'm keen to get one on my FJ but curious about any change to drivability. Doesn't look like it from your video but would be keen to hear your thoughts
G’day! Excellent question. As far as I can tell, there’s no difference in drivability or stability that I can notice. I’ve done some pretty gnarly tracks with 45* inclines and side to side rocking, and the FJ seems pretty stable to me. That said, there is increased wind noise on highway at high speed, but the stereo covers that up well enough :) My FJ is set up for touring rather than extreme rock climbing stuff. If you are into that, I’d probably recommend a swag instead of a roof top tent, but if you’re more into touring with the odd challenging track, then I find the roof top tent fantastic.
@@4xAdventures Nice one thanks for your input. I've had a swag on the ground for the last 20-something years and feel like it's time to do my back a favour in terms of a better bed. Sounds like the FJ will just continue being an FJ regardless of having a bed on the roof :)
Traction control and diff locks don't work together, a diff lock will literally go against traction control that's the point of diff locks to turn as one and not alternate. But a very nice calm video.
Great to see, and thanks for sharing. I’ve really been looking forward to you posting this series. Have you raised the diff breathers or just running with the standard, and if running standard, how did you go?
Thanks very much Ross. Yes I’ve raised the diff breathers to a point high up in the engine bay. All good so far. No issues with deep water, and I’ve been in some super deep stuff (you will see in the last episode).
This is incredible, thanks for sharing your adventure. I'm getting my FJ today and can't wait to take her on trips! Amazing vehicles. Question; do you use crawl mode on those steep climbs? what has your experience been with that. It's such a fascinating feature of the FJ.
Thanks very much! And congratulations on your FJ!! Excellent choice! No, I generally don’t use crawl mode. On steep descents, I put it in low range, first gear and try to use the brakes only lightly if required. That generally does the trick. I’ve tried crawl mode… haven’t been game to use it in a real situation as yet 😂 All the best! 😊👍
@@4xAdventures Thanks, good to know. I have a lot to learn still about 4x4'ing properly and am super excited having the FJ to work with. I'm in NSW but looks like I need to head down south some day :) Cheers mate
