  • In this series of videos, I explore the Victorian High Country. This is a magnificent 5000 square km of rugged wilderness located in far north-eastern Victoria. In this video, I'm travelling solo, exploring Davies Plain Track. Heavy rains have caused all the rivers to rise, leading to washed out campsites, terrifying river crossings and getting bogged.
    Welcome to the “4xAdventures” channel. Bringing the experience of touring remote outback Australia to you since 2017.

    This brings back memories. We were already set up at the hut when you got there. I remember you telling us how nuts the river crossing was haha.
    P.s. it's a shame you didn't come past that tree the next day, cause we spent 4 hours clearing it off the track the next morning😂
    Nice videos!

    Great vid. I crossed solo Tom Groggin in April 2011 on the way back from a tag along in Victorian Highlands, in a 2009 Hilux (lifted 2 inches). It was the scariest thing I had done. I measured the height where the water came to after exiting it was over 1.2m. I suspect the only reason I got thru was that my weight was very close to GVM, preventing floating. It looked higher on your vid. Good decision to use private bridge.

    Just came across your channel, really nice stuff. I went through Davies high plain to limestone in the opposite direction to you on my own but in the dry though, couldnt imagine doing it in the wet especially without a winch!
    Did you need to ask permission to cross the bridge on the property or did you just drive on through?

    • @4xAdventures
      @4xAdventures  Год назад +2

      Thanks very much! The gate said only use in case of emergency or when river fire is uncrossable. So I went across. The farmhouse was at the far end of the property, so I would have had to cross it anyway to ask permission. I’m pretty sure the gate is kept locked at all other times. 😊👍

  • @fatmanoverlanding
    @fatmanoverlanding Год назад +2

    A good series. Thanks for taking us along. And how lucky where you with the river crossings? As each time you weren't sure about it, something happens that helps you make it across. Including the last crossing, where you found a private but publicly accessible bridge over Murray river. 👌 I've driven on a few PARs aka Public Access Roads (ie. roads accessible by the public on private lands) along Turon and Hill End NSW, and even though you can legally go on them, and abiding by the rules as you drive on them (ie. staying on the track and not deviate, and not driving dangerously etc.), I still feel uncomfortable doing it each time. It feels like you're trespassing into someone's land. One PAR I went on around Dark Corner NSW involved opening and closing 7 livestock gates within a 3kms stretch. 😲

    Great series Attila, as a long time 4 wheeler I suppose it’s the one aspect I always query and that is solo travel in these mountains. I won’t go on about the value of reliable gear as others have pointed it out, this end of the high country is far more remote and you have just touched the surface and for those places tandem travel adds so much more enjoyment to the experience .Love the quality of the footage, what camera are you using?

    • @4xAdventures
      @4xAdventures  Год назад +2

      Thanks very much! Yes, you’re right. Having experienced both group and solo travel in the VHC, I would definitely go tandem/group in the future as it’s simply far safer if you get into trouble. I’m glad you enjoyed the series! I wasn’t intending on filming it when I set off, but because I always carry a couple of old GoPros with me, that’s all I used for this trip.

      Most of the river crossings are fairly shallow - and we haven’t had much rain lately so you may be ok, but you may encounter a deeper river, depending on where you go, therefore I would recommend having a snorkel to be on the safe side.

    • @4xAdventures
      @4xAdventures  Год назад +2

      Thanks. Watch the lockdown rebuild series - I explain it all in there. But basically, it all started when I decided to strip the car down to install some electronic rust protection. I then realised that the previous setup was far from optimal in terms of weight and space utilisation, so I re-built the whole thing as a custom fit-out. Much much more room than before, and way lighter than the drifta drawers (which are fantastic, but on the heavy side), 😊👍
