The DW sounds different in the hand of Marco Mineman, incredible. Precision and highly refined technique, always good to see you play. Beautiful sound from the whole kit.
This guy could play a set of trash can lids with a shovel and make it sound good. I find DW's like yamaha's, when they're tuned and mixed right, there's no competition, but when they're off, they're way off.

The most impressive drum chops I’ve ever seen. I don’t think the whole of his compositions is greater than the sum of its parts, but there is a real beauty and effortlessness to his drumming. I think it was a mistake for him not to join DreamTheater. It would have raised his profile, but I suppose he is an independent soul who doesn’t really care about that.
@@Aditmad Nah, Marco has been doing that for decades. I do think they shared some ideas when they toured together with Johnny Rabb in 2002, but I think it'd be some independence stuff, which Marco had written a book about.
And the only reason Mangini got the spot was he knew all the members, they were all friends, he had filled in before for Portnoy, and he knew all the songs. Marco is a lot more creative IMO.
The part starting at 18:12 seems nearly identical to a portion of Terry Bozzio's "Baby Snakes" solo. It sounds like he's just substituted the snare for the toms Terry used. I'm wondering now who/what inspired Terry's solo.
I love his rudiments on the bass drum... the doubles he play at 10:10 are legendary ❤ edit: he does things with his feet most drummers wont try with their hands 😂
As far as my ears are concerned this kind of elusive magic storm of complex patterns fits guitar (or...) very steady paced lines greatly cf UKZ's Radiation at 3'42 and more recently Alex Anthony Faide's "Particles Of The Infinite Pt. III" (organ version)
There's a rumor that he was the one who turned down the offer from DT. And last year in an interview about the DT audition, Marco did say that he didn't want to be tied up with one band, he want to do more side project, but if he was gigging with DT he might not have time to do that.
Not normally a huge fan of the circus act ("look how difficult this must be") element to his solos but IMO that was one of the best and most musical solos I've ever heard. There was the odd bit(PI) that didn't quite work but generally fantastic. Seems when it's done tastefully, the odd and technical stuff really adds something...who'd have thunk it? He's gone up massively in my estimation from hearing that.
The Foo Fighters should consider Marco as a replacement for Taylor Hawkins. I couldn't think of a more prefect drummer to fill that seat. He even looks like a relative of Taylor's.
