Yes currently the GPS is useless on the 8. It is not working with Quick it is not working with Dashware, which was bought by Gopro 2 years ago. I am really thinking about sending it back as for me the built in GPS was the main argument over the DJI Osmo.
Even though your camera is charging, the battery will not charge during recording. It will start charging when you stop recording. You cannot record while your camera is plugged into a computer.

Honestly, GoPro send me absolutely nothing whatsoever - I purchase all my GoPro items myself, so I have no reason to be biased on these reviews. If I had any issues I would say them (as I have with some other GoPro accessories!).
Same issues with mine. Amazing how GoPro puts so much into marketing and paid reviews but doesn't bother fixing what's essentially software issues. If it weren't for the small form factor, I really wouldn't have bought one in the first place. I have had this camera almost 2 years now and have had sooo many problems with loosing footage, stop recording for no reason. Battery problem, the day I opened it and started recording I noticed dead pixels on the screen and in my recordings, camera crashing when it’s not even hot. Had mine for 5 days. All kind of software issues. Device won't turn off, when I do pull out the battery to turn it off, it won't turn on. Are these issues common with the GoPro 8?
I couldn’t agree more, I’m in Mexico vlogging right now with a GoPro 9 and having issues, GoPro need to pull their finger out, my 4 year old Sony FDR X3000 no issues at all. It’s not acceptable that I’m vlogging for my RUclips channel and I can’t rely on my equipment!
I have a question,is it normal that the front cover of hero 8 can be move just a little bit when you put a little amount of force on your fingers?(the camera part) Is it able to affect the waterproofing ability of the cam when it has no waterproof casing?
Since I ride dirt bikes the non replaceable screen is a dealbreaker. I was going to upgrade but now I will wait for the next generation where they hopefully will go back to the old design.
Even though I also preferred the replaceable lens housing, I doubt they will go back to the old design to be honest - this way they make more money from repairs and replacements! You could always use the protective housing just to protect the lens?
@@iftibashir You are probably right, but then again I have seen a lot of people voicing that this is a dealbreaker.. I will consider the protective housing but it adds additional weight which is not ideal..
My only issue with the Hero 8 is that Quik for desktop won't read the GPS data. The data is there because I can use a 3rd party web app to read it but can't use Quik for desktop to add speed, path, etc. to the video.
I got the Hero8 two days ago 06AUG2020. The camera overheats and shuts down after 14-18 minutes of use. It’s mounted on the inside of my car’s windshield plus I have the air conditioner going. I’m merely recording my driving and getting to know the camera and getting a feel for viewing thru my phone via the app. So, the camera is not sitting in the hot sun. First I lose connection with the app, and then less than a minute later the camera beeps and completely shuts down. I touch the camera and it’s VERY HOT. All of the software is up to date (I’ve only had it for two days!) so I’m afraid it’s going back. I can’t imagine how it’ll “perform” if I were to actually take the camera outdoors in the summer. This is very disappointing.
The wiggling/crooked mounting issue is REAL. No matter how tight you make it. Ive bought and had to return 3 different Hero8's and even tried a Hero9 and they all wiggle and can easily mount several degrees crooked using the crappy folding fingers, making your footage you take useless without knowing until you look back at it. Ive talked to Go pro several times about the issue and they just try to send me replacement fingers which doesn't fix the design flaw. I wanted to upgrade to the 8 for the stabilization i need. They should come out with a fixed finger mount that you can swap out so that it doesn't wiggle and mount crooked. This was a big mistake, and Im surprised I haven't heard more about it. I cant just be getting a bunch of bad ones. Even the $650 CAD GoPro MAX uses these flimsy folding fingers. And using the protective housing isn't a real option: way too bulky, lowers audio quality, and you have to take it in and out to charge or plug in.
Can't help but think this camera has a life of a only a few years. Batteries will shorten in an already short life. Those feet ofc. Hinged door working itself loose as you inevitably keep having to open it. Non changeable lens. Over heating cpu damage.
My hero8 broke and l had to send it back to the shop. Camera was overheating and it wasn’t recording properly. It was freezing and stopping with recording for no reason. I got my money back and lm getting hero7
My GoPro 8 (with 4K): afuera 4 minutes of use, you will not able to touch or put inside of your pockets... Too hot! The worst scenary: on your Dash car (tropical countries)...
My biggest issue is that i can't connect it with my PC... I have to download movies to my phone and then i connect phone to PC... Annoying for such expensive thing.
Looking for the camera that is least likely to overheat between the Hero 6, 7, 8... Which one can i run the longest in extremely hot conditions??? Thanks
Please tell me you didnt listen to him....great video but his sd card is not suitable for every goprohero 8 features. You can use a micro sd card of 256 Gb maximum and it is recommended to have a "V30" or class 3 sd card. The 633x is only a class 1 tho...
I wish that was my issue and I will be happy with it. My problem is way worst and I am not sure who is having the same problem. At first my it has not issue at all but this week that I was recording I started to have an awful noise like a squinting feedback basically an unusable. I dont know if it firmware or hardware, I did not drop it or anything. Help any one?
Nice review! Only bug I have with the camera is the red led in the top left hand corner of the screen is being obliterated by a piece of black glue/dust. Hard to tell when it's flashing and when it's not...
Please talk about Overheating issue during recording. i had tried two go pro 8 batteries and same issue. there’s something wrong with ventilation system of Camera. I was even recording in temp 20C and the issue is persist 😡
My main issue is it wont connect to my PC, apparently because my mobo has a Z390 chipset. So now I have to go fork out even more money on a card reader. I'm not the only one either, there's a 12+ page thread on the gopro forums full of people in the same boat, and gopro simply don't appear to care.
GoPro used to be very good with customer support. I remember their monthly 'win everything' giveaways etc. But now they are completely profit driven. Once they have sold you the camera they don't care.
Hi iftibashir, thanks for your review. I have one question. What about the fog that previous gopros suffered? Did someone found this issue on new GoPro 8? I'm asking this because GoPro has a fogging product on its site that only works by opening the lens....
Greetings @iftibashir. Have you encountered the floating "red, blue and/or green" spots on the screen most visible during video stand by mode? I've read different forums and seen multiple videos on this problem and have also encountered the issue on my camera. Thanks in advance for any help in this matter.
Why is the 8 bigger than previous models? It has the same screen size, same sensor size. same battery size, it just doesn't make sense. No replaceable lens cover, no hdmi, no protective cage and no plugging in an external mic without the battery popping out or having to buy their expensive 'mods'. It seems they've killed what was an awesome action camera to appease vloggers. why? They could have just made another camera for that. There's a huge hole in the market for a video-focused mirrorless camera, what were they thinking? If this is Gopro discontinuing all their other product lines in order to focus on "what they know", god help them as a company.
What about fogging? Will the lens start to fog just like on previous models? Theoretically it shouldn’t when not using the external housing as now for the first time the body is a unique piece and the lens cover is integrated into the body.
iftibashir That’s what I thought but I’ve found complaints about fogging from some Hero8 owners, that’s why I was asking, for extra confirmation. Let’s hope it doesn’t.
Biggest complaint as I use my gopros on motorcycle rides is that I can't charge while i ride as I can't stop every 45min to 1hr to change batteries. I have returned mine and went with another hero7 black instead. Something that should have been considered when making this new design specially as it is an "action camera" not all activity can be stopped in the middle to swap out batteries. Huge miss IMO.
@@alpha_pixel_ I had it hooked up to a powerbank and the battery fell out. I removed the door and taped it up quite a bit so that the battery wouldn't fall out, but the tape failed and battery fell out. It's a bad design. I shouldn't have to remove the door and tape the fuck out of it so I can charge it on they fly. It's a fucking action camera, it's gonna go through some shit. So what happens when a rock hits the lens? YOU'RE SHIT OUT OF LUCK BECAUSE IT'S NOT REPLACEABLE!! IT'S A FUCKING BAD DESIGN.
‘Nothing to put you off buying it’.. you joking... last year I had to replace my lens screen twice TOTAL COST £30 third party company on my GoPro 7 BLACK.The GoPro 8 Black, there is no warranty or comeback if you break the len screen. Unless you take out the monthly GOPRO PLUS signing to there cloud/extra warranty. Which in turn costs FAR MORE per year than replacing lens screen on the 7. Also you have the hassle in sending the camera to GoPro, and waiting for another. Depending where you live this can take WEEKS or MONTHS. NO I will stick with 7 BLACK until the GoPro 9 Black comes out. I got a strong feeling, they will bring back the replaceable len screen.👍🏾🇬🇧

Purchased mine last night. Noticed burnt-like marks this morning whilst testing it outside. Is it normal?

Please tell me you didnt listen to him....great video but his sd card is not suitable for every goprohero 8 features. You can use a micro sd card of 256 Gb maximum and it is recommended to have a "V30" or class 3 sd card. The 633x is only a class 1 tho...
I love the way you speak, are you from UK? Anyway your review is brilliant! More reviews mate! Greetings from the Philippines
Yes! Thank you!
the only thing i dont like about gopro cameras is,thay take a lot of gigs up when you transfer your footage to your pc.
I have the Hero 4 Silver and the Hero 7 Black, The hero 8 seemed like a step back ?
I wish that was my issue and I will be happy with it. My problem is way worst and I am not sure who is having the same problem.
At first my it has not issue at all but this week that I was recording I started to have an awful noise like a squinting feedback basically an unusable. I dont know if it firmware or hardware, I did not drop it or anything. Help any one?
Have you tried re-applying the firmware?
Download it from GoPro and try the manual method to replace the current firmware.
waterproff no!
ok so now:
gopro hero8 vs gopro hero 7 silver which is better
Nice review! Only bug I have with the camera is the red led in the top left hand corner of the screen is being obliterated by a piece of black glue/dust. Hard to tell when it's flashing and when it's not...
Have you found a way to keep the Hero 8 from overheating?
Please talk about Overheating issue during recording. i had tried two go pro 8 batteries and same issue. there’s something wrong with ventilation system of Camera. I was even recording in temp 20C and the issue is persist 😡
I have never had any overheating issues at all. I'm in the UK - a colder climate - so that probably helps!
WTF is wrong with the screen at 5:09 ???
Hi iftibashir, thanks for your review.
I have one question. What about the fog that previous gopros suffered?
Did someone found this issue on new GoPro 8?
I'm asking this because GoPro has a fogging product on its site that only works by opening the lens....
Greetings @iftibashir. Have you encountered the floating "red, blue and/or green" spots on the screen most visible during video stand by mode? I've read different forums and seen multiple videos on this problem and have also encountered the issue on my camera. Thanks in advance for any help in this matter.
I'm afraid I haven't experienced this issue......
So they can sell new housing products
What about fogging? Will the lens start to fog just like on previous models? Theoretically it shouldn’t when not using the external housing as now for the first time the body is a unique piece and the lens cover is integrated into the body.
Its all one sealed unit now so the lens should not fog at all.
iftibashir That’s what I thought but I’ve found complaints about fogging from some Hero8 owners, that’s why I was asking, for extra confirmation. Let’s hope it doesn’t.
W.O.W.
I hate the audio of this version... auto, off and on are seemingly the same. tsk tsk
The audio think is to make a separate file for the audio. Its not going to change the sound of it
thanks....very informative!
Does it come with a micro sd card?
No, you need to supply your own I'm afraid.
I bought mine directly from go pro, so hey send a micro sd card 32 FB.
Use small powerbanks and long cable
All items have the adventages and disadventages. If you dont want to disapoint my opinion is dont buy anythings 😂😂😂😂 ..
this comment truly underrated 👍👍
I don't see the replaceable screen coming back at all I'm afraid. Its money-spinner for GoPro.
