Today, this is still my all time favorite show. Lynda Carter defined Wonder Woman and made us believe she was Diana Prince/The Amazon Princess. I never get tired of watching the show, it is my comfort TV. Nothing new in this video for me, being a huge fan. I have seen, heard and read all these behind the scene stories & all things about Wonder Woman. Also the first season on ABC, then the 2nd season, moving to CBS. I watched the series first run, so it is such an important part, my teen and adult years.
Wonder Woman's first season set in World War II was its best. Lynda Carter was perfectly cast for the role; she remains the best & definitive live action Diana Prince/Wonder Woman.
Lynda Carter set the bar high for Playing the Super Heroine known as Wonder Woman. Her raving beauty, style, charisma, class, femininity, uniqueness, elegance, etc., she was and is WW. Nobody has surpassed Lynda as WW to date.
With all due respect to Debra Winger's time on the show. No one was watching because of Winger, or Wondergirl. Sometimes you just gotta play second banana.
At 9:30 we see clip feat. the iconic Jayne Kennedy, the WW villain of the week who was allegedly being offered a spin-off series about Diana’s black sister, Nubia. Mego already debuted Nubia action doll at the time and she was also introduced in DC Comics.
I'm always pleasantly surprised when I discover shows I loved as a kid actually had so much more depth and nuance to them than I was able to understand. Wonder Woman's themes of representation, equality, feminism, and diversity obviously were not at the forefront of my mind as a child, but now knowing they were an integral part of the show makes sense and is a wonderful thing as I see it.
One of those execs on those networks should have thought about doing that. It would have been a huge ratings grab. Even if they couldn't cross either over to their own show...perhaps they could have made a 1 hour special or a 3 part special that was not either of their respective series.
More trivia: actress Charlene Tilton auditioned for the role of Wonder Girl, but ultimately didn't land the role. Also, in the episode The Bushwhackers, conservative actor Roy Rogers thought the Wonder Woman outfit was too risqué and demanded that Lynda be more covered up in order for him to do the episode. Thus, she wore chino pants and a long sleeve top as Wonder Woman instead of the usual costume.
And those clothes were provided to her by the housekeeper "Maria," who had a totally different build than Wonder Woman. There is no way she would've fit into Maria's clothes.
02:20 The Wonder-Bikini First, Thanks for the pic. Second, in an interview Carter said the brief swimsuit suffered FREQUENT "Wardrobe Malfunctions" during and after dives, and any vigorous swimming exposing a great deal more than intended. Given Carter's physique, one can EASILY picture exactly how things came off [literally] during filming.
The modern costumes have little to do with “modesty” and more to do with realism. Let’s be honest, most comic book costumes are silly looking and not very realistic for someone who has to do the things that superheroes do. The whole “bathing suit with a cape” look would look out of place today.
Fun Fact: There was actually another Wonder Woman before Cathy Lee Crosby....almost. In 1967 the makers of the Adam West Batman show filmed a pilot for a potential Wonder Woman series. It was essentially going to be a comedy about a woman who IMAGINED herself as Wonder Woman! In one scene she looked in the mirror and her imagined reflection in full costume was Linda Harrison who would become best known as Nova in the first two Planet of the Apes films. So technically I guess you could say that Linda Harrison was in fact the first on-screen Wonder Woman
@@PhysicalMediaPreventsWea-bx1zm but the pilot from 67 NEVER aired on tv of in theaters, so Cathy Lee Crosby was the first OFFICIAL live action Wonder Woman.
I grew up watching Linda Carter and was thrilled when I learned she had roots in Mexico. She became an Icon for many young women and I'm glad her values never changed. I'm glad that she won't do a reboot because she's right, it will fall short. However, I did love her cameo with Gale Gadot.

For Season 2, the model for the nuclear super submarine Seaview from Irwin Allen's Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea was used. As the Amazons were immortal, they should've cast either Erin Gray, Kate Jackson or Joyce DeWitt as Wonder Girl.

Here's another factoid: the episode "Amazon Hot Wax" not only debuted Ms. Carter's singing skills, but also included a guest appearance by Rick Springfield...
You didn't do your homework. Cathy Lee Crosby's version was quite comic accurate at that time. During that period, DC revamped her to be more of a spy type with NO super powers and a jumpsuit style costume.
The idea was “inspired” by another popular Diana at the time-Diana Riggs-as the sexy judo fighting Mrs. Emma Peel from the British TV spy series, The avengers.
As a child ot the 70s, Lynda Carter was just extraorindarily gorgeous and a perfect casting for the role. She truly embodied Diana Prince and Wonder Woman. She had a beautiful voice too!
Linda Carter’s _Wonder_ _Woman_ always reminds me of the smile and bone structure of a Lab Partner I had during the Summer of 1985 (who went on to become Miss Florida 1993.)
As a pilot, i should think her jet is ridiculous, but actually i love it and it all goes with the sort of fun "batman" straight man jokes of Wonder woman too. Carter obviously took the role full on and loved it and gave women a lot of power and stories had lessons on them but not too preachy of course, just comic style bad guys and Wagner is great too. Shows back then were fun and innocent and never too dark but today.... sigh. I think young people are discovering all these 70,s, 80's shows and seeing how great they were and learn not too see the world in such dark terms hopefully.
And especially since the cartoon Wonder Woman never had to change outfits for certain scenes to me at times the Wonder Woman cartoon itself with Superman or Batman or that was a heck of a lot better
