    My Superman series as a kid was Superman: The Animated Series, but I have really grown to appreciate this one on revisit. It helps to know going into it not to expect it to just be all action but a fun character driven romcom that happens to be based around one of DC's most iconic superheroes. Dean Cain and Teri Hatcher both had real good chemistry as Clark and Lois as you watched their relationship develop over the course of the series, and I do think that was a large part of what made the series work. I also like how it showcases their work at the Daily Planet with their skills as reporters often making as much of a difference in stopping the villain-of-the-week as Superman himself.
    Also if it weren't for this series then readers of the comics would have never gotten Doomsday and the now iconic "Death and Return of Superman" storyline, so good on Minty for mentioning that.

      It’s on the dvd set interviews. The baby belong to the couple leading new krypton.
      Funny enough, according to the interviews for Smallville; Smallville was originally intended to be a 5 seasons long prequel to Lois and Clark. Using time travel shenanigans to restore Lax not knowing about Clark being Superman.
      The idea was than to go back to L&C, with a season 5. with them still taking care of the New K baby, now at school age of 5 or 6.
      Plans changed during the production of Smallville’s season 3b. When many of the cast and crew decided they wanted out of Smallville.

    When discussing American TV shows it is very important to understand that here we refer to them as seasons, not series. That’s why we have season finale. Here in the states the series finale is the final episode of a TV show.

    This is one of those shows that has aged quite well, even not being perfect. I wouldn't mind if they did season 5 as a comic book, the same way they're doing for Burton's Batman 89 timeline. It would be fun.
    Dean and Teri did a fantastic job as Clark and Lois... and I dare to say that John Shea's version of Lex Luthor is my favourite version of the character in live-action form, because you see that he's Lex, but in season 1 he's not entirely obsessed with Superman, like it happens in most media portrayals, and that's a good thing, because it allows us to see him slowly going down the rabbit's hole that is his obsession with Lois in this version. And I also loved Lane Smith's Perry White (best version of Perry in my opinion).
    Regarding the outfit keep changing, I always attributed the changes to Clark's mom, who continued to sew his outfits (I mean, there's even one episode, where most of his outfits get destroyed, with the exception of one, and he says that his mom's going to kill him, xD), so, like the show's team, she was experimenting. xD

    Minty stick to facts. The comic writers decided to “Kill” Superman simply as a shock to get Sales. As they were asked. All you need to do to know this is watch The documentary on the character which I believe is titled “Look Up in the Sky: The Amazing Story of Superman”. Also you missed one Superman cameo. In the same episode that Jack Larson appeared. The episode ends with a scene of Lois and Clark dancing in their brownstone and she starts thinking about him aging slower and in the mirror she sees him dancing with her except he is the same and she is older. The older reflection of Lois is none other than Noel Neil, the 50’s second Lois and the overall 1st live action Lois Lane as she originated the role in the two Superman serials in the 40’s.

      The comic writers WERE going to have the marriage but had to come up with something else because of the show. They had trouble thinking of a replacement, and one of the writers kept jokingly saying, "Let's just kill him." Eventually, they actually went with that when they couldn't think of anything better.
      Yes, it was to boost sales, but so was the planned wedding.

    • @matthewrosenthal753
      @matthewrosenthal753 2 месяца назад

      @@KasumiKenshirou Actually it wasn’t and if you watch the documentary I mentioned you will hear the writers talk about it. They were talking about killing Superman every so often long before the series was a thought. Yes the series delayed the Wedding but it had nothing to do with the death and resurrection of Superman.

    • @JurassicRod

      @@JurassicRod The show hadn’t even launched yet. Sales were down and they were asked to do something with the character to get people to buy the comics. Let’s kill him came up in the discussion. And they decided to do it because it was left up to them. And it worked. The show or rather its plan only postponed the Wedding. It was a combination of wanting to boost sales, create interest, and show everyone why we needed Superman that made the decision for that story. But don’t take my word for watch the documentary and take their words for it.

      The creators of Superman were actually going to have Lois find out that Clark Kent very early on in a story called "The K-Metal of Krypton", but the editors rejected this story and didn't want to change the status quo. (The titular "K-Metal" was essentially Kryptonite, years before Kryptonite was introduced to the public.) Because of this, Lois was supposed to be a great reporter but she looked stupid because she couldn't figure out that these two men in her life that looked identical were in fact the same man.
      They mocked this on Saturday Night Live when Terri Hatcher hosted. Terri would get confused when the cast members would put on or take off their glasses while talking to her, thinking the person with glasses was a different person that had somehow swapped places with the person she was just talking to.
