No, Trunks does not have more potential than Gohan. But he has an argument. In the world of Dragon Ball, Future Trunks has had more disadvantages that virtually all of the other Z-Fighters. The present version of Trunks had all the oppurtunities but never pushed himself.
It's quite possible that Trunks was simply never in position to be the best. Gohan had more assitance at different points.

Kid Gohan trained for 10-11 months in the HTC (because he left the Chamber early with Goku) and far surpassed Future Trunks and Vegeta.
Well, considering Trunk's past, he has more pain / rage to work with + he literally went from ssj2, which he achieved on his own, to ssjb lvl of power during the Goku Black saga. That's one heck of a jump tbf. All in all they're both hybrids though, they should be similar in "potential".
What you are saying isn't fully complete. He did use SSJ 2 but his SSJ 2 was on par with SSJ 3 Goku in the Zamasu arc. So this Goku is way stronger than Buu saga SSJ 3 Goku. Keep in mind this SSJ 2 Trunks fought Zamasu and Black.
@@QaamansLand Yeah, but remember how ssj3 Goku literally one punched ssj2 Trunks during their first encounter? That's one heck of a power jump going from not being able to touch ssj3 Goku, which as you pointed out is stronger than the Buu saga Goku, to fighting on par and even surpassing that at the very end. That's insane mate, totally insane. Imagine this guy getting his potential unlocked like Gohan or Piccolo did, and then training under the likes of Piccolo to get even tougher. Trunks will turn into what dbz Broly was at this point, lol.
I would say all the hybrids have equal hybrid potential. Both Trunks, both Gohans, and Goten all have equal hybird potential. It's just the matter of their will power and how they were trained. No present Gohan does not have more potential than future Gohan, he had his dad and green man around when it was time for serious training. Also Future Trunks does not have less potential than present Trunks. The spoiled hybrid Trunks was just lucky his dad and the gravity chamber was there for him to use.
Trunks’ power hasn’t been fairly challenged. Black shows up in Goku’s body and toys with him. If he had more enemies after the defeat of the androids, he would have progressed much more cleanly. The power is there.

@@QaamansLand Same reason Gohan got absorbed by Buu. Dude was caught off guard. Gohan was defeated mentally long before he was defeated physically. As for Trunks, he thought he won the war. His guard was down and if Cell knew how to suppress his energy, could have happened to anyone.

At first I was talking about the Trunks we follow into Super, but when you mentioned how he does to Cell, it made me think you were asking about the Trunks Cell killed and took the Time Machine. If you are asking how Cell killed him in the modern timeline, hate to use it again, but he was also caught off guard. Cell was hidden in smoke and his power level was off the charts. Trunks couldn’t have dodged it even if he knew it was coming.
To clarify what I originally said, I’m really more saying he needs training partners, villains or allies. If he had them, I think he’d be a monster.
Dabura was a major enemy for Trunks also. Defeating Dabura and Babidi with only the supreme Kai as backup definitely would have been no easy feat.
My personal theory for why Babidi arrived much earlier in the main timeline is because of Super Saiyan 2 Gohan & Super Perfect Cell's energy clash attracting him to Earth.
Trunks clearly have not completed unlocking his potential. Trunks basically only had himself to train to get super sayian and got as strong as the andriods. Then fought vegeta becoming a rival in the tome chamber. And managed to kill merged zamusa. Yall mortals need to agree with him.
Look Gohan has all the people , time and resources needed to get stronger. Trunks does have other priorities such as rebuilding the world with just himself and Bulma.
If trunks and vegeta trained together in the time-chamber, vegeta's final flash would probably have killed cell.
I think future trunks is a harder worker and eventually would also have to be a smarter worker it makes a lot of sense kinda like an obi wan and anakin situation

@@crimsonking4151 well yeah of course he did he doesn't have a choice, trunks would have to put more effort into getting stronger and while he did get stronger in a shorter time it's likely due to working harder and being smarter in term of training than future gohan but he doesn't have anyone else to give him any input like with grade 3's uselessness. It's ways easier to get stronger if there's someone who can help than by yourself. Plus talent doesn't equate to potential, talent is more about natural skill instead of your possible capabilities and ceiling which is what potential is. Trunks having more talent means he has skills which likely were developed through hard work. Trunks likely has more talent than gohan but his capabilites ceiling could be lower than gohans. The show has blurred both words a lot which opens up multiple interpretations of the same thing.
@@purpledragon5398 Trunks has yet to hit a wall in training and he has always been able to figure out transformations on by picking up on them then visually. He defeated the androids and Cell with SSJ grade 4 just by watching Gohan and Goku use it during the cell games. He unlocked grade 1 on his own and he picked up on grade 2 and 3 by watching Vegeta and purposely slowed down in his training to not hurt Vegeta's feelings. Vegeta even told Cell he's not quite as strong as he is ( really he means experienced) but it would be hard to tell the difference between his power and his own. Vegeta already knew Trunks unlocked SSJ grade 2 on his own and the difference in their power was marginal. Not to mention in a 3 year time span Trunks got a lot stronger than Gohan on his own without Gohan.
Gohan trained for 13 years and wasn't even at the level Goku was at when he came back from yardrat. In the main timeline. Let's just call a spade a spade. GOHAN IS A JOBBER

What Trunks does have is the superior mentality when facing threats, if he had the training partners Gohan had throughout, he'd easily have become and remained the strongest saiyan warrior.

Of course he does. It’s implicit and only overshadowed by Toriyama’s constant and desperate bid to make sure Goku and Gohan always take lead, an approach he’s softened since Super as it was clear that the fandom didn’t quite jive with this thinking.
After all the stuff that went down in Super, like Master Roshi suddenly being able to contend with top tier fighters, I.... find myself not as invested in these discussions as I used to be, lol. That aside, I think there's nothing really crazy about making a case for any of the saiyans. All these guys have pretty great potential. Goku started off as a low class warrior and now he's up there contending with gods and angels and whatnot.

Jiren literally was so supressed that he allowed this to happen,meaning Jiren couldn’t have been using more than Saiyan Saga levels of strength on Roshi because if he did he would’ve killed him Jiren can clearly sense how strong Roshi is he wasn’t trying to get eliminated lol.
Trunks was the first person to get ssj with only training in his timeline too. He also is as strong as he is without any potential boosts
I think that dabura and babidi came later in future trunks timeline was because at that point there was a population now
The reason why Babidi came later was because there was no Cell battle to feel energy from. So either trunks got strong enough to get their attention or they just stumbled upon earth

Babidi showed up way later since, because the Z fighters were dead and Earth didnt have many strong warriors, Babidi collected energy from a lot of people through the universe to revive Majinn Buu, wich took a lot of time

Trunks had a HUGE advantage in knowing about Super Saiyans his entire life whereas Gohan didn't learn about it until he was like 5 or 6. And Trunks is now older than Gohan was during the Cell Games and is STILL only a Super Saiyan 1

Future Trunks has always been my favorite. Goku s good heart, Vegetas ruthlessness. He doesn't fuck around.

Ironically the version of Future Trunks that arguably achieved their full potential was Xeno/Time Patroller Future Trunks. I mean he got SSj1 - SSJ3, and even SSG. The sad thing is that when compared everything else in Heroes & Xenoverse he is outclassed. Well that, and whether or not you count Xenoverse/ Heroes to begin with.

Gohan from the get-go had no interest in fighting, he was forced to constantly, and felt fear.
Yes (Future) Trunks was forced to, Counter Argument: he didn't feel fear, he felt like a burden.
Gohan, learned to survive, protect himself, show mercy, kill *when necessary*, rely on rage boost (pain of loss, etc) and control his Ki (How he stayed on Super Saiyan for 4 days I believe??? During the 10 day break before the Cell games, I think Goku said say Ssj for x days, relax and power down, then power up again for x days) and had MULTIPLE teachers, Piccolo, Krillin (They trained mentally on that ship so it does count), Goku & Piccolo (3 years before Androids training) and Goku a whole year (Hyperbolic Time Chamber) and a stable/peaceful environment (respectively, able to train without interruptions or stress)
Trunks, had Gohan, just Gohan. Goku died when Gohan was still young (Gohan didn't get to technically train with Goku, least we can assume that since Goku would've had no reason to train him, only spar at most before dying of the heart virus), as Trunks stated himself, not too long after the other Z-Fighters started to die off (my assumption would be while Trunks was an infant, would make sense since he didn't even know what Vegeta looked like) meaning Gohan didn't get anymore (major) training from the Z-Fighters. So Gohan had to adapt, get stronger on his own, rely on training on Trunks, receive Zenkais from fighting the Androids, and increase his power. Meaning Trunks had a strong master, but not an experienced/expert trainer (not calling Gohan inexperienced but his knowledge isn't on par with Goku, Vegeta, Krillin, Tien or Piccolo)
Trunks received the short end of the stick when it comes to receiving training to fight.
What separates Future Gohan and Present Gohan? Present Gohan had more knowledge because he trained with Goku and learned how to control his Ki AND when to use his anger. Future Trunks was taught to use his anger to get stronger, just as Gohan did, but it's following Vegeta's logic, which Vegeta even commented that controlling their anger and suppressing their Ki to last longer in a fight is a genius moment.
I think that's pretty much the downfall of all the hybrids, incredibly high power and potential but the lack of saiyan spirit makes them not want to continue pushing unless theres a dire need too, Toriyama himself acknowledged the fact that a character like that could not be a good MC hence gohan got sidelined in the buu arc to put the focus back on goku and vegeta.
I think all of them will fall into this no matter what, even with Gohan beast he will go "I am the strongest time to chill" and then goku and vegeta will surpass him again by miles then rinse & repeat gohan new form
I mean getting I am going to train mindset is not always go to for becoming stronger after all, courage is also part if ki along with right mindset to influence their ki and techniques to their limits, it may look like training is ez but if thy go regular yamcha training session they might never surpass them

They need to use goten and trunks more imo. They should play with biology by playing with the genetics of the Saiyan-Human hybrids, gohan as a hybrid not being as interested in training doesn’t necessarily have to mean goten and trunks have to be like that, they could gain the hunger to train if the writers wanted them too.
Maybe bulla is very weak or a saiyan like near human strength but has the attitude of one, just possibly I’m mentioning.
Bulla and Pan didn't get any time for action with their Saiyan genes. DBS will hopefully fix that...

In Trunks The Story -The Lone Warrior-, the sword is completely absent from his earlier years, during the time in which Gohan was alive, which means that Gohan teaching Trunks swordsmanship is out of the question. After the three year timeskip, though, Trunks is shown equipping the sword to battle the Androids when they attack West City. The Daizenshuu 7 says that the blade was tempered by future technology but never specifies its origin. The sword belonging to Tapion originally is doubtful, though, considering his sword looks completely different from Trunks's.

gohan cheated to get as strong as he did. how strong is he without everyone having to unlock his potential. Trunks also has the ability to learn techniques really fast. He has more techniques then Gohan. I think trunks rage form is stronger than Gohan unlocked and Trunks still hasn't even had his full potential unlocked yet

Gohan had the unique circumstance of being birthed to Goku, the greatest martial artist in the world and the most prodigious combat genius that ever lived, and Chi-Chi, whose earthly temperament is described as "second to none" in the databooks. Like, Gohan is very clearly a special case; only he is stated numerous times to have bottomless potential, only he has been shown to draw upon his dormant power through fits of heightened emotion, only he was born with a tail apparently, and only he has been raised in the center of battle. There is simply no way for Trunks to catch up.

the concept of potential and how dragonball uses it is probably the worst thing toriyama ever made. it allows for bullshit power ups for character that dont deserve it like gohan constantly and piccolo in super hero.

Yes I agree both Future Trunks and Present Trunks do not have more potential than Gohan.I can see Pan having more potential than Gohan considering she was able to fly as a baby or 3 year old (depending on whether you are counting the Dragonball Super: Superhero).

Pan potentially could have been the strongest saiyan ever, I mean think about it, the genes of post old kai unlock Gohan is in her, and a Videl that Gohan taught how to use her energy also, so to have the genes of the strongest saiyan plus a Videl that has energy control are some insane ingredience

(Before watching the vid) I feel as though Trunks actually has more potential. For simplicity sake let's use Future Trunks as the comparison. Trunks was put in a predicament where he was left with an inexperienced teacher (future Gohan) and a world where they were the only possible chances of beating the androids. Although the same for Gohan (and further) Trunks made more progress in 1 year while training with a negligent Vegeta compared to the years he got with Gohan and the 3-4 yrs he got on his own before trying to take on the androids on his own. In comparison to Gohan of the main timeline he had Goku, Piccolo, and etc to train with. Some may even argue that if Vegeta was more hands on Trunks may have even possibly grown stronger and honed in on his power. We also gotta remember that Vegeta has natural potential whereas Goku worked hard for his level of power so when you combine that as well as being a hybrid Trunks should theoretically have more potential than Gohan. The problem though where it can be undecided can be seen where Trunks has certain circumstances (being the last possible fighter in his timeline) and Gohan who doesn't' regularly train (which is a whole other thing in itself). They're the sons of Goku and Vegeta but not the same as them. Although we know Gohan only fights for necessity we don't fully know if that's the same with Trunks because his whole life has been fighting out of need so for all we know he can like Gohan, but due to how he lived he still trains out of necessity even though his progression is hindered by circumstances
Let's say you put them on an even playing field circumstance and motivation wise; let them go into the chamber again but this time lets put a post Cell (when Trunks was leaving) Vegeta in the time chamber with him and Goku and Gohan again then I feel there's a chance that Trunks could gain the biggest boost out of them all

You went more in depth with mentioning the different versions and etc whereas I just mentioned future Trunks and I agree with what u said. I’d also point out (although cop out) the boost Trunks got in the Goku black arc to where he was below ssj3 Goku originally but then overtime skyrocketed as a reason for why he has more natural potential if I were to make the argument. Imo I just feel like if u give them an even playing field and/or lvl of knowledge that Trunks could be stronger than Gohan, especially if his potential were to get unlocked

8:56 while I agree with most of your video, I think that this is a moot point, because trunks says that he kept this form a secret from Vegeta. He was afraid that he would strike at Vegeta‘s pride by exhibiting a form that was stronger than him, so, instead of showing this form to Vegeta, in their training, he says correctly that he kept this form a secret. He placed that handicap on himself even if they did train together.
That beginning part was a bit touchy
1:40 the DBS mirai trunks arc was a masterpiece in throwing logic out the window, so I have a hard time making sense of it let alone using it as a pillar .
A trunks SSJ2 waking up from coma after years of starvation, immediately overpowers SSJ2 Son in a spar, and in the manga he even overpowers SSJ3 forcing him to go SSJG for a split second. The same Goku who went against freeza in base form.
And immediately after that arc, ultimate Gohan is shown roughly on par with SSJB Son, despite Son having trained at least 3 years in the room of time.
They downscaled SSJB massively when they realised other characters were left in the dust.

Trunks and Goten should be the opposite of Gohan. Actually make use of their power and train to become the strongest. Ideally, Trunk's interactions with his future self should have more than motivated him to work on himself and become strong, should he ever be put on the front lines to defend earth like the future timeline. The fact that he brushes this off and barely trains is beyond me, and a waste of a character, same for Goten.

Also about the thing that Trunks reached such a high lvl on his own which i agree with but still think its important to mention that Vegeta also didn't train under any master until DB Super and for reaching SSj he had even less help than Trunks since he had Gohan there to explain and train him for it while Vegeta did it on his own.
Not only that but when he appeared back on earth he had not only surpassed Trunks but even Goku after his training on Yardrat which on its own is insane after we saw what an enormous boost Vegeta got after training there and for a far shorter amount of time than Goku did to.
So there is precedent in Trunks family for achivieng insanely high lvls of power on their own. While the Son-family probably has greater potential over all I think Vegetas is more naturally strong with less need of being trained. Another point that could speak to that is how Trunks was stronger than Goten even though he trained alone while Goten fought his mother and Gohan.
Only a theory ofc. but is would make sense also thinking about how elite Saiyans like Vegeta are already powerful at birth and if King Vegeta having such a strong child is any evidence than it would only be natural for Vegeta who surpassed him when he was still a kid to have an even stronger child.

Gohan trained and fought against the androids for 13 years and jobbed the entire time till they got bored of him. If you go by the anime continuity he failed to teach Trunks basic SSJ despite being a SSJ for 13 years and never figured out any variations of SSJ. So we saw his full potential on display and he's a jobbed. We saw his potential unlocked on namak and he jobbed. He trained with the Z sword and the elder Kai unlocked his potential again and he did what? Say it with me now He Jobbed.
You are confusing Goku's hard work with his latent ability. Goku had to train with a list of martial arts masters then die go to otherworld and train with god just so he could become half as strong as Vegeta was naturally. The fruits of the son Family's labor and blessings from God allowed them to keep up with the Brief family's natural abilities. No outside influence ever honed Vegeta or Trunks natural abilities. If Goku coached Trunks instead of Gohan they'd have no diffed Cell, but of course he's gonna look out for his own son.

Watching super saiyan 2 trunks fight a rose goku black, and hold his own, is pretty comical
5:00 it is explicitly shown that training with the Z Sword, did make Gohan significantly stronger, even though it's a bit dumb by DBZ logic.
At that point he was on par if not slightly stronger in base form than base Goku, asuming they were struggling to lift the sword using the maximum power of their base forms.
Of course I agree that the "full potential unlock" was an unbelievably large boost, but the training with magical sword played a role in it too.
It's important to keep in mind that Gohan had most of that potential in him, it's what allowed him to beat SSJ2 Cell despite being severely injured and tired.
The ancient kaioshin ritual mostly just bypassed the mental limitation that was preventing Gohan from unleashing all his power, because he couldn't harness anger anymore.
No he was able to beat Cell cuz Goku and Vegeta helped him. Get fucking real. Gohan was ready to quit and let Cell kill everyone.

Vegeta had to step in and blast Cell and hurt/distract him (yes Vegeta did hurt cell whether you like it or not you see his knees buckle from the blast) to give Gohan the opening he needed to finish Cell off (Now's your chance!). Gohan lost to Cell and Goku had to step in and save the day like always and sacrifice himself to make up for Gohan's jobbing. Then from beyond death Goku had to pick up the slack since Gohan can't help himself he has to job. Gohan belongs on the bench with chiaotzu. No need for him to be on the court fr.

I think it's the same situation as goku and vegeta. Being Vegeta's son AND being a hybrid should boost up his potential far more than Gohan but trunks lacks something compared to Gohan. They both can jump a fair bit in strength but it's pretty clear that Gohan just has more. He went from being fodder to moro to literally being stronger than True UI

In the guidebooks, it’s states Goten hasn’t trained over the 10 years leading into End of Z, and explicity states he hasn’t achieved any monsterous growth because of that fact. And Goten at that point in time had no interest in training, rather going on dates and doing his own thing. The only reason Goku and Goten were training in the first place, was due to Goku wanting his son to be prepared to participate in the World Tournament.

You could make the argument that ssj2 to whatever the hell he did in super is a bigger jump than ultimate form to beast form. trunks's new trick in super is significantly stronger than the base state of super saiyan blue, and the ultimate form being by far the strongest any non fusion got in Z, I would argue that it's closer to the god forms. Hell, it may even involve god ki for all we know. And it's not even something he managed on his own. Whereas trunks is literally just super saiyan, but harder, enough so to outperform ssjB by a lot. With a second rage amp, he was able to match corrupted zamasu, which otherwise REQUIRED AN SSJB *FUSION* TO FIGHT. Trunks with his new super duper saiyan or whatever form, and with his rage amp in that scene is within spitting distance of UI, UE, and beast form.
Toriyama has already said Gohan can be stronger than anyone, and the show itself has too. That includes Trunks, so any argument is just plain overridden by these facts.
Future Gohan is the floor version of Gohan. Current Gohan is what his ceiling looks like. future Gohan just didn’t know HOW to tap into his power
I also don't think Vegeta and Trunks trained much together but the fact that Trunks uses grade 3 isn't proof of that since for one at that point I wouldn't be surprised if Trunks just didn't tell Vegeta to not hurt his pride and the bigger thing is even if Vegeta saw him use it he probably wouldn't have told him why its bad and let him figure this stuff out on his own.
What it comes down to though is that we just don't know for sure. Could even be the case that Vegeta told him and Trunks just didn't believe him at that point.
What is asked myself for a long time is if Vegetas Final Flash would have been stronger if he went grade 3 or if it would have been the same since the attack puled on all his Ki anyway.
The one thing that I still don't get is how Trunks could think he could beat Cell after he survived the Final Flash. Maybe that just shows us how inexpirienced he actually was.
My point was that if Trunks discovered it how would Vegeta not notice? They clearly weren't near each other.

Or other Dragonball theorists here. So the first thing that happens is Goku survives the Cell games.
And he does this by unlocking SSJ2 instead of Gohan doing it. First obvious question is... how does this happen?
I think there are a few factors that we're gonna have to deal with in order for it to work at the point in time that I'm thinking Goku unlocks SSJ2. Which would be around the same time that Gohan did. Goku unlocks SSJ2 after Gohan says things that really pull on his heart strings. Cell gets tired of waiting for Gohan to unlock his hidden potential so he sicks the Cell Jr's on Gohan. Gohan gets beatdown by them and tries to unlock his power but nothing happens so out of fear and despair Gohan cries out to his father and apologizes saying that he failed Goku. Goku realizing how much he has failed Gohan in this moment rushes to his sons aid but Cell stops him and gets him in a full nelson and forces Goku to watch the consequences of his actions. As Gohan gets beaten Goku is thinking about how badly he has messed up and his desire to make up for his huge mistake basically helps him go SSJ2.
Another question I've been thinking about is could a tired worn out SSJ2 Goku beat the Cell Jr's? Actually, scratch that because I don’t think that has ever been a factor DBZ. Right? Cause like Goku looked pretty beat before he went SSJ on Namek.

i think Trunks (future) does have more potential. There is no right or wrong of course, i like to have a debate, not an arguement like most other anime fans do. But heres why:
- Gohan we know has the potential to get stronger, yet he ALWAYS has that power. He just doesnt "unlock" it when nessecary. But then you look at Ultimate Gohan which in writing should be a maxed out Gohan at that time, could still be defeated by a stronger opponent. and he was sorta rekonned out of that with beast gohan
- my main reason i think he has the potential is because Trunks at this point is basically like a Good Guy Version of Cell in which he attained moves and abilities of other Z-fighters to add to his arsenal. He still has the potential to master those abilities.
- you said Trunks got stronger because he HAD to.
Whereas Gohan always has the strength just needs to be pushed to use it. Trunks as you said is handicapped, he GOTTA train to surpass his opponents.
- Trunks also can see his potential to get stronger just by seeing people around him stronger (like ssb goku and vegeta)
Whereas Gohan just looks and says Dad's got this one, i dont need to do anything. But just incase he did, other characters usually have to train gohan to unlock a new level of power as Gohan doesnt figure it out himself.
- Potential is showing qualities to develop into into something.
If Raditz saga, we knew Gohan could be the strongest, we have to also say that SSJ2 gohan and ultimate gohan is when his potential peaked as once he is in those forms, (again, not counting the asspull that is beast Gohan) you know he cant get stronger than that other than how he goku and vegeta train their base forms so that if need be, their strongest transformations will be levels above what it was when used in a earlier saga.
But for Trunks we've honestly never seen a max level Trunks. Even Super Saiyan Rage, he pushed his power to the limit to achieve that, but he has no knowledge and the show has not shown us, that he has peaked in terms of what he can learn. He probably doesnt even know how he summoned a spirit bomb right now. But he still has the potential to learn how to. Hell he might be able to make the Spirit Bomb absorbtion from the Android 13 movie a move in the future. But theres still a massive amount of potential there that we have yet to see unlike Gohan.
oh and Babidi didnt come to Trunk's earth earlier because there wasnt enough source of power to revive Majin Buu. (i believe this was said in dbz and again in the dbz kakorrot Trunks version of buu saga) As theres only 1 saiyan and Androids slaughtered most of the human race.

@@QaamansLand well to be honest there's no real Dragon Ball explanation as to why. The same way we can all ask why he didn't use the time chamber or why King Kai didn't help or why Goku couldn't use King Kai to help them in that time. It's on a level of things that are forgotten like Launch.
But my theory is simply this:
- I think future Gohan pulled an ultimate Gohan too early.
I think that after all the Z fighters died he raged out and achieved Super Saiyan right then for the first time just as Trunks did when he saw Gohan dead. But in this sense he was at his peak power (because he assumed that this was the strongest that a saiyan can get) which wasnt strong enough to beat the Androids, or maybe you can say he was stronger than the Androids but he couldn't defeat them because they had infinite stamina.
(But there's also an inconsistency here because in history of trunks and in the story that Trunks tells Goku the way the Androids killed them were different. One of them say that Piccolo was killed first on the day that the Androids showed up and everyone died. In the flashback story that Trunks tells, Vegeta fights the Androids at a time later on because everything was already destroyed and he was the first to die. And then because Vegeta fought, the Androids decided to hunt down the rest of the Z fighters over time and kill them. So I don't know which one is true but if the later one is true then that would mean that. Gohan would then reach Super Saiyan at a later time period.)
Also, I believe what's important here is that Vegeta dies early. So they didn't know (since Goku was not there), that they was potential to achieve a form stronger than that other Super Saiyan.
-As for Zenkai boost
Now Gohan trained for however young trunks was through when they last fought the Androids. He also fought the Androids plenty of times as well. But I think the thing here was that he ran/escaped by hiding from the Androids during their fights and he wasn't beaten to near point of death and the Androids let him leave. So I don't think he got zenkai boost as Goku and Vegeta did in early Dragon Ball Z because they were basically at a point they couldn't move. Thats just my theory of why he didn't get a strong enough Zenkai to cleanly overpower the Androids
So now you have a peak level Gohan who trains with Trunks to get stronger. Yet his fighting experience couldn't get better because he lacked (or didn't know of) the tools Goku had to get stronger. Like you said, When Goku and Gohan were in the time chamber Goku trained with Gohan, and Gohan somewhat was stronger than Goku to where he was catching Goku off guard a lot so Goku was training with somebody he also had to overcome himself. Whereas Vegeta and trunks training, They trained separately, which is why Trunks lack the experience to understand the weakness of his form. (But Vegeta did because he was a more experienced fighter) Same with Gohan training Trunks. Its like yeah, you both are Super Saiyans but they both lacked the experience to fight in specific situations and environments.
Just as Trunks grade 3 thought Cell was fast when it was actually Trunks that was slow, Gohan probably figured he had enough power to destroy the Androids but never could get the chance to get them in place to do so because 17 and 18 were just overall better fighters.
(Piccolo defeating ultimate Gohan in Dragon Ball Super demonstrates this as well, yea you stronger but, you lack experience)
Thats just my opinion.
Just a side Theory: I think if it were Goku fighting the Androids in the future with Trunks (no additional powerup forms) he would have still won as an off guarded Warp Kamehameha should have definitely been able to finish off at least one Android before they could use a barrier to defend themselves. I also think that a Super Kaioken would've gotten him strong enough as well to defeat them
I think gohan has the most because when he trains or gets angry then he never falls behind. I just didn’t realise that gohan’s potential is now even greater than broly’s due to his half saiyan emotional rage and natural talent…it wasn’t this great in dbz.

I understand that he trained intensely with Goku (who is not traditionally intelligent but is a GENIUS when it comes to fighting), but Gohan went from base form to Super Saiyan 2 in less than a year, and he did it when they didn't even know Super Saiyan 2 was a thing yet (Goku suspected but wasn't entirely sure). Meanwhile, it took Trunks nearly a DECADE to go from Super Saiyan 1 to Super Sayain 2 AFTER knowing about the form
That's the result of Goku training him. Gohan isn't shit on his own. Trunks got everything on his own. If he trains with Goku there's no telling how strong he becomes. Trunks was able to figure out grade 2 and 3 without any help at all. Gohan needs all types of coaching and elders unlocking his potential to be relevant. Try aging .

Trunks is self made Gohan is dead in a puddle oh yeah and unlike Gohan trunks actually beat Dabura and bobidi and stopped buu from hatching by himself. Gohan will never be relevant without Goku holding his hand. Trunks is more of a man than him. If Trunks had grade 5 during the cell games. Cell would have got murked in the first round no questions asked. No one ever helped Trunks achieve shit especially if you go by the anime Gohan failed to teach Trunks basic SSJ he had to figure that out on his own as well.
I'll take it even further, Gohan lost to the androids for 13 years and never accomplished shit. Trunks lost to them one time. Trained by himself for 1 year in the time chamber and he cleaned up the androids and Cell in no time flat. If he got any real mentorship or training from the SR Saiyans or KK or anything like that he's going places.

Well Toriyama’s original plan was to have Goten and Trunks be the new heroes of earth alongside Gohan, with the two eventually surpassing the rest of Sayians

I get dbz story ideas like all the time but they basically kinda just like what if fights. Like for example what if Piccolo was able to show up to the battle with frieza before Krillin tossed a destructo disc at him and cut off his tail? Or what if Goten and Trunks arrived on the Kai world and Trunks saved his Father from Kid Buu.
On thing i didn't get about the end of future ark is why trunks didn't go find the new namekians and wish his friends back i mean bulma knew about them
Cuz if they tried to leave the planet the androids would shoot them down duhhh
Logically trunks should have the same amount of potential or roughly around as much as gohan but from what we have seen of his training he defo doesn’t

Ahh yes we have 4 different trunks
(1) unseen timeline killed by cell and then took his time machine
(2) this one went through cell, went back to the future killed his androids and his version of cell, majin buu, and survived goku black arc , but failed to save his timeline from eraser so him and mai are the only ones who survived are now in a new timeline where there's 2 of em
(3) This trunks didnt have to deal with goku black arc because it never happened which is also where (2) trunks and mai reside in
(4) kid/ teen trunks
This one is growing up not having to dealt with all the problems of the others and going to high school

Trunks was never supposed to go back in time, He was always meant to be the hero of Earth, Goku Black was never supposed to exist, Mai and Trunks was probably destined to meet (Dragon ball is weird)
it just seemed that Trunks was supposed to fulfill some type of prophecy but his time travel screwed that up.
Gohan has crazy hidden potential thats been recognized by Goku Vegeta an Piccolo
No he's a jobber and he has proven himself to be a jobber time and time again
Trunks doesnt lol gohan is the only saiyan who has ever been mentioned to have such potential 😂 neither trunks no goten are ever mentioned AT ALL who knows maybe we'll see something in the future
Trunks is better and has way more talent and done more with his career and Gohan is a jobber
