An inspiring series. Must admit that I am a bit wary of doing a Christmas layout because a certain furry member of my household has been known to attempt to climb the Christmas tree, and knock it over.
Perhaps you could politely ask your partner not to do that this year 😉 Joking aside, the layout doesn't necessarily have to go round the tree, it could even just be a winter themed diorama. Thanks for watching 👍
Great to see the snow going on and the tips for the icicles is terrific were great. So good to see the layout with all.the lovely light. Very well done indeed.
Thanks Nigel, it's is nice to see the layout looking finished. The icicles are one of my favourite little details and it's great to have all the lights working too. Thanks for watching 🎅
Brilliant, the snow really was effective and it looked like a proper little winter scene, it was a fantastic build and well done for making it look so festive 😀
Thanks Adam, yeah the snow has made a big difference! I wanted to make sure it didn't cover up too much of the scenery so it was nice to do a sort of frosty night rather than huge piles of snow. Thanks for watching 😃
I know I'm a bit late to the (Christmas) party, but this is amazing. The child in me wants to touch everything and look in the windows and check out every corner! I'm very recently exploring model trains again in my 30's and I thoroughly enjoyed this little series. Keep it up!
Ahh brilliant, I'm so glad you've enjoyed the series! There's plenty more layout videos to come with the completion of my large modular model railway coming very soon hopefully. Thanks for watching 😃
This series has been such a inspiration. Next year I will hope to do something with the Hornby Santa's Express Set I have as we have had it out a few times now but running it on the carpet doesn't always give reliability and as we usually have a large real tree the Railway would have to contend with the tree light cables and falling pine needles which would need cleaning up occasionally. I will possibly do a tunnel section (to protect the train near the Christmas tree light cable area and a modular village scene to create a bit of interest.
Awesome, that sounds like a fantastic plan! Great to hear that North Poleton has given you some inspiration and fingers crossed you get to build your own Christmas tree layout next year. Thanks for watching 😃
@@ThatModelRailwayGuy i handily have the baseboard size already as the mat the Christmas tree is on is the perfect size for the layout only thing I may add is a few sidings and like your layout a extra storage fiddle yard area for a extra train.
That looks brilliant, and next year I shall be submitting a planning application to management to let me do something similar. If I show her your video she might even agree to it!
It's definitely one of those things that doesn't look as good on camera as it does in real life 😅 It looks a lot more Winter-like in person. Thanks for watching 😃
Thanks! Awesome, I definitely get ideas for my own layouts from other videos, magazines and forums so it's great to hear people are coming up with their own ideas based on my layouts now. Best of luck with your own layout and thanks for watching 😃
Thanks David, really glad you've been enjoying the series and my other videos. Stay tuned for 2023, there's lots of exciting things in the works! Thanks for watching 😃
Awesome video series mate. It's been a pleasure watching the layout being built. A layout to be proud of. Merry Christmas and a happy new year to you and your family. - Nicholas.
Thanks, it's definitely been a really fun build and having never done Winter scenery before I'm really pleased with how it's turned out! Thanks for watching and Merry Christmas to you too 🎅
Awesome! Yeah we rarely get snow here in the UK either (apart from this year ironically) so it was definitely fun to go for a more Winter theme. Thanks for watching 😃
Thanks! I wasn't sure if the TT:120 figures would work for the elf's but it's a really great little scene! Yes I'm annoyed about the shuttle but I'll do a full video on the process of installing it soon hopefully. Thanks for watching 😃
I was only watching this video for scenery techniques for my main layout and now you’ve made me want to make a Christmas layout 😂! Out of curiosity do you think you could use the cheap hairspray to make extra layers of static grass? I don’t have any layering spray and it looks like it’s kinda expensive given that it’s just (I assume) spray glue. Also I really like the icicles, that’s so clever!!
In all honesty I've found the layering spray is one of the few things I do think it's worth paying out for. It's not quite spray glue (which tends to be more stringy) and is more like spray mount... which is also fairly expensive. That's not to say hairspray won't work and it's perhaps worth testing out - but in my experience it doesn't hold the grass quite as well. Thanks for watching 👍
Hey man! Just checking in! Merry Christmas! I love the series! During the part where you test snow, you sound like you have a cold! Just asking sure you’re all good!
Merry Christmas to you too! Yeah I'm fine, had a little bit of a cold a few weeks ago when I recorded the voiceover for this episode but the RUclips train stops for no-one 😆 Thanks for watching 👍
Hi there, as I explained in the video they were customised TT:120 workmen figures. I believe they were these ones but it doesn't look like they offer the TT versions anymore: www.scale3d.co.uk/products/mfp005-1-76-1-64-1-22-scale-mechanics-group-a-5-figures Thanks for watching 👍
That’s great! Thanks so much. Loving the videos. Really helpful, informative and inspiring. Thanks for the links to the products you use. Also very helpful!
Hi. Quick follow up question. When you’re spraying ahead of laying snow, how do you approach cleaning the tracks afterwards to ensure good train running? Similarly after weathering? Thanks
Awesome! There's never been a better time to get into 009 so it should be the perfect addition to your layout. The shuttle unit was from Block Signalling - the SDCC1 I think. Thanks for watching 😃
Honestly I would suggest not trying to do too much with a single layout. I would recommend just building a suitcase layout and then you can always put it at the foot of the tree for Christmas. Thanks for watching 😃
I got one mini Christmas which I built a portable stand to keep it propped up straight I want to the mount to the train layout use a building in it's place During the holidays replace the building with the tree
Ok, that icicle sealant trick is genius, might steal that for if I ever make a winter/cold weather layout
It's good isn't it! I was surprised at how effective they look and it just adds to it being a Winter scene. Thanks for watching 🎅
That turned out amazing. Again more tips and tricks, like the snow and icicles. Congrats on a job well done. Thanks for sharing and stay safe. Ken
Yeah the icicles in particular I’m really pleased with! Thanks for watching 😃
Great episode- love the brass band in the snow and the lights in the buildings .
I thought you might like the brass band! I couldn't not include them. Thanks for watching 😃

Honestly, the lights look so so nice in the houses and on the street. Really creates a great atmosphere! Great job my friend!
Thanks! Yeah it really comes alive with the lights on. Works really well with the Christmas tree lights too. Thanks for watching 😃
One of the most inspirational layouts I've seen in the last 65 years of my railway modeling. Great job!
Wow, that really is a compliment! If you enjoyed this you may like my previous 009 layout series if you haven't seen it already. Thanks for watching 😃
It's looking really great and the brass band vignette is brilliant.
Yeah I like the brass band too! Thanks for watching 😃
Excellent work. A great small project with huge character.
Thanks John, I always try to make sure my layouts have a bit of atmosphere but it's not always easy to create. Thanks for watching 😃
Brilliant brilliant brilliant , well done and a Merry Christmas
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it and Merry Christmas to you too. Thanks for watching 😃

Wasn’t sure of the snow when it first went down but looks great all done. Needs a sleigh and some presents on the 009 wagon

19:00 wow, I agree, North Poleton looks absolutely fantastic
It's nice to see the layout fully setup for Christmas isn't it! Thanks for watching 🎅
Wow wow WOW! I wish I could live on that layout! Very cool tips by the way!
Thanks! It's definitely been a fun one to build. I think I'd quite like to live in North Poleton as well! Thanks for watching 😃
Thanks for sharing ! Merry Christmas from Wales ,

Terrific job
This looks amazing
Have a lovely Christmas Nick Australia

Very nice, you should feel very proud of that. Lovely stuff. Merry Christmas.
Thanks, it's definitely been a really fun build and having never done Winter scenery before I'm really pleased with how it's turned out! Thanks for watching and Merry Christmas to you too 🎅
The layout does look pretty awesome done a really nice job with it
Thanks! It's certainly been interesting to do a Winter themed layout for once instead of my usual Summer scenery. Thanks for watching 😃
Absolutely fantastic job, as always! Have a great Christmas 😊
Thank you! Hope you had a great Christmas too 🎅
Merry Christmas!
Merry Christmas to you too and thanks for watching 😃
The layout looks fantastic! I live in Florida, so my Christmas layouts are usually covered in snow to compensate XD. Merry Christmas!
Awesome! Yeah we rarely get snow here in the UK either (apart from this year ironically) so it was definitely fun to go for a more Winter theme. Thanks for watching 😃
Great video. Great idea with the elf’s. Shame about the shuttle run, very interested in how you would do that
Thanks! I wasn't sure if the TT:120 figures would work for the elf's but it's a really great little scene! Yes I'm annoyed about the shuttle but I'll do a full video on the process of installing it soon hopefully. Thanks for watching 😃
@@ThatModelRailwayGuy I look forward to that video 😀
Duke/Granpuff
I'd love to do one of these, but will have to wait at least another five years until little fingers aren't so little.
Ahh fair enough! Unless you have a shelf layout on a very high shelf 😅 Thanks for watching 👍

Hi. Any chance you could send a link to the models that you used for the elves? They looks great!

Love it! Building something similar albeit not a winter scene but you’ve inspired me to add 009 into it now. What shuttle unit have you ordered?
Awesome! There's never been a better time to get into 009 so it should be the perfect addition to your layout. The shuttle unit was from Block Signalling - the SDCC1 I think. Thanks for watching 😃
Great stuff! I’ll take a look at that now. Thanks.
I want to build a suitcase railway but i want to make it interchangeable for a Christmas tree during holidays Any suggestions

Now buy a OO polar express
I really hope someone releases an S160 in 00 gauge soon. Then I might have a go at recreating the Polar Express. Thanks for watching 😃
Is that goods shed scratchbuilt or a kit?
It's a kit from LCUT Creative, as are the two bridges. Thanks for watching 🎅
What happened to the Removable Snow?
Not sure where you got that idea from, there was never any removable snow planned for this layout. Thanks for watching 😃
