The gearbox is so common, there must be a racing gearset for it so Theo doesnt need to spend 20k on a dogbox
You don't understand, getting a custom gearratio is not the problem. Loads of options and semi budget options. Just getting a setup with straight cut gears in it is the problem. Not cheap

Straight cut gears are going to be a hassle. If you want a similar effect (that can be undone for cheap unlike gears) you could throw some solid engine / trans mounts in. You really feel the engine and noise then.
Another thing with these E46s are they’ve got pretty flimsy rear subframe mounts, worth welding some cheap reinforcement plates in with all the M5 power while it’s in the air!

It depends how bothered you are on making it an M3 etc as once you move to coilovers and other aftermarket parts etc all the geometry changes anyway.
Talking sbout track width! The rear trailing arms are wider, as are believe it or not, the front control arms and knuckles. Roughly 30mm difference! The m3 ones have more camber and are stronger. As far as i believe, subframes are the same, just the control and trailing arms as well as front knuckles. If you need any more help on what parts fit what, just ask! Absolutely love this build!

Its a sequential conversion kit using the standard casing. Thats how we was able to do the padel shift
I would strongly suggest to reinforce the rear subframe mounting points. e46 m3's already suffer enough from this issue and the engine you put in it has way more torque than that. Also try to get rid of as much corrosion of the trunk floor as possible considering how corroded the subframe itself was.

You should look into doing a dry ice cleaning to all those old parts and bits, it'll end up looking like a brand new car.
I love the progress that Theo and Dale have been making with the "Almost an M3.5". Thinking back to when it started as an idea, it's so satisfying to see the build coming along, and I'm sure I speak for all of us when I say that we can't wait to see the end product!

For upgrading the front brakes it's quite easy, the biggest brake option on a non m3 chassis (and front suspension) is to get e9x 335i front brake callipers and brackets aswel as the brakelines, might aswell upgrade to steel braded brake lines while you're at it. Combine these callipers with the e46 m3 csl brake disks of 345mm plus some good brake pads and you have a real big brake upgrade without changing the whole front suspension assembly and spending allot of money on a big brake kit. only down side is that you cant use that cover thats behind it, could cut it up a bit so the disk fits on it. All this is just plug and play. Hope this helps in some way or form.
Theo is just reading my literal mind I literally always wanted to build a M3 GTR and he is making one but instead of getting a M3 he started with a 328i which does require a bit more work unsurprisingly

Yeah now that you mention it. It doesn't have the upside-down trapezoid bump on the upper center
@@anut8733 yes exactly, that is the only thing keeping this build from being almost identical, specially because the liberty design uses that part of the hood, as it goes around it.

Unless I missed something You guys really and I mean REALLY should take care of the rust under the car while You had the rear subframe off, after that You should weld in subframe reinforcement kit (mounts tend to rip the floor apart with high power units), other than that hope the car will come together nicely. I'm working on my E46 so I'm cheering on for You guys 👍

You know the funny thing is that just yesterday I was thinking about blackpanthaa making another M3 video, but I thought we wouldn't see one for a while because he just V8 swapped it a few weeks ago.
should of reinforced the subframe mounting points while you had that down. notorious for cracking especially the more power you put in these chassis.

As much as the straight cut gears sound crazy in game, you'll get over them quick in real life - every vehicle I've seen them in has been loud in a bad way. Would rather hear the V8 instead of a whinny box hahaha

Anybody thought to adress those subframe mounts ripping out on high powered E46? A V8 is gonna stress that area alot more.
Also the gearbox whine should come alone if you just dont run it without oil in it :) Would be nice but an expensive transmission upgrade...

I assume you will do the whole chassis. I would also get new stabilizers, brakes, so that it doesn't fall apart like a house of cards along the way. I would not forget to treat the underside of the car against corrosion and other things. You've done a great job so far and it would be a shame to only have polished shit, so to speak 😂😂

For that whine they would need to change the entire transmission with a (probably illegal) highly modified one..
weld the folded bits of the fenders where they are cut and seal them or your fenders will fill with water and dirt and rust away
