i was youtube surfing but dont know how i got here but im liking this, a lot a lot. by wiring all that in, that has to make it worth about 3k. i still am amazed at ibanez's 8 string none the less with this midi configuration..
I saw this video a long time ago and I just watched it again. My music has come a long way since then, and I was absolutely amazed then. NOW, I'm still just as amazed, and I would totally love to have this installed!
About time someone made one of those mods! It's amazing; the extended range really opens a plethora of new things to do with the MIDI sounds. Great job man!
This is without a doubt the most amazing original awesome guitar ever concieved im absolutely blown away dude. i NEED one of these its fucking ultimate!!! Wow!
Honestly, there really is nothing out there that shows in great detail anything of this magnitude. I plan on releasing some videos that teach and train... That may be a LOOOONG way off though. I have been really busy doing these mods. Go ahead and subscribe so I can keep you posted... Thanx!!! shotgunn
@devildrummer197666 yeah you could get them installed on a 1527. Check out the Graph Tech site, they have 7 string sets of the floyd bridge saddles, then you'd get the ghost acoustifonic and hexpander installed
All guitar synths (or Pitch to MIDI converters) can only handle 6 strings. This guitar has 8 strings. I used two Hexpanders, two 13-pin cables and two AX-50's into Pro Tools LE 8. No, I did not have the magnetic p/u's or piezos running through the 13-pin cables. That buffers the signals more than I like. The piezos are already buffered inside the Acoustiphonic, and the EMG's have their own preamps. So each signal has its own output. Strings 1-6 (13-pin A) strings 7-8 13-pin B mags and piezos.
Great video, as with many of your demos, good job! I was going to get a custom guitar with both the piezo and midi from graphtech and you've just made me do it sooner!
Yes, but what good is a 6 string trem gonna do for this 8 string? This bridge is totally one of a kind. The piezos are installed in each saddle. With two Hexpanders...
@bloodcoveredreaper Piezos cannot go anywhere but beneath the strings at the bring. Piezos are a manmade organic crystal that emit an electrical AC voltage when pressure is applied. i.e. string vibrations. If you want this mod done you'll have to ship the entire guitar to me so I can mill the saddles of your guitar and then do the necessary woodwork and install the electronics... Let me know if you are interested.
@mechajabo Actually the GraphTech Floyd Rose saddles will not fit on the Edge Pro bridge. For the 1527 I use L.R. Baggs' X-Inserts into the Hexpander for MIDI.
Yeah, I am pretty happy with the video. I wish I had more time to tweak the tracking. As far as the guitar goes I couldn't more please with the outcome... Thanx for the opportunity. Let me know when you get it. Good luck with your clinic this week!!!
Great stuff! But please tell me your setup and how would i got to change my setup so that i can use my 8-string. I Have a Cort multiscale 8-string guitar, a Boss SY-1000 Guitar synthesizer. what do i need to make this happen? How did you connect the guitar to the computer? A regular 13-pin GK cable?
Yeah, I thought the bass sounded awesome too. In Pro Tools I ran the bass through the Sans Amp PSA-1 plugin set for SVT and tweaked it a bit. Then I compressed it quite a bit. It's a pretty useable sound I think... THanx, shotgunn and playing the guitar @ 5:25 was surreal. I didn't even know where I was!!! I was stunned.
Actually, it has improved quite a bit. I had just bought two of the AX-50's and had yet to take the time to tweak them. That, and tracking is greatly affected by the cleanliness (and lack thereof) of the player. I hadn't been playing much at the time of this video (heck, I play even less now... BUMMER!!!)
Did you buy the piezo transducers separately or butcher them out of a set of saddles? I have a set of Wilkinson style saddles which I bought for a project but if I could get them out I'd love to try this.
@shotgunndunn Do you have to be plugged through a computer to use the midi effects? Or can you plug the guitar straight to your amp and use the midi effects?
@MrXorHomer You do not need to be plugged in to a computer. That is one option. I have used this system with a Yamaha Motif Rack. (a keyboard brain module.)
@mechajabo it's not really an issue per se'. They just don't fit. The Edge Pro saddles were designed around the L.R. Baggs X-Inserts. They're a perfect fit so it is best to use them in the Edge Pro. Without my mods there is no other way to have piezos on any Ibanez trem. I have another video showing the Edge Pro Piezo Mod that I came up with. Search for Edge Pro Piezo Mod here on youtube... I sell kits, send me a message...
Been wondering how well MIDI would work on an 8-string with various brands of pickups--Roland, Graphtech, Fishman being the ones that caught my eye. Roland and Fishman are much simpler to install with the outboard options, but how complicated is it overall with each brand, and how well does it work?
I have some questions if you don't mind. I have the same system installed into a revrend gil parris. the problem is that i have guitar playing out of the synth output jacks of the Roland GR-20. Tech support is talking in circles. Now they say I need to have the 3 way selector switch installed (the git, midi, merge switch) or it is normal to hear guitar from the synth output. I call Bullshit on that. who the hell would want unprocessed guitar merged with midi. Any experience like this?
Does the MIDI to work with all 8 strings? I thought the MIDI guitar units were all built around 6 string models and you couldn't have more than 6 triggering MIDI events.
Whats the damage for a peizo midi mod identical to what you've performed on a 6 and 7 string? I've got to say EXCELLENT job. I would like to send you a jackson 6 and ibanez 7 in the future.
Hey man Im curioys about your audio to midi converters? what do you use? I have graphtech piezos on my 7 string with a 13-pin output, but I don't have any interface to convert that into MIDI >< what are you using?
Ok I just got an 8 string and this is pretty much exactly what I’d like to be able to do with it did I hear you right that you did this on commission for someone?
Is it possible to insert the GraphTech Custom Piezo Inserts into an Edge-Pro Tremolo on a Ibanez Prestige RG620X ? I'd love to have midi capability on it.
You are an absolute genius. Is there any way you could do this to my 8 string? It's an Agile Interceptor Pro-B 828 w/ Duncan Blackouts (Not sure if that last bit matters). Oh and it's got a Kahler (I think 72228K) bridge.
I personally, like to combine the synth with the magnetic pickup sound. You'll have to edit that in your patch I believe. I'm pretty sure you can mute the guitar output on a preset basis.
I am an authorized GraphTech dealer. I had them make me some custom inserts that would normally be in there LB63 bridge (Floyd Rose bridge). Do not attempt to cannibalize your Wilkinson saddles. You will completely destroy the crystal. The piezo element is a tiny fragile crystal embedded in the string saver material. Once it is embedded it cannot be successfully removed. I can get whatever parts you'll need. Message me if you are interested or if you have further questions. Thanx, shotgunn
Are you using a GraphTech Ghost bridge with the AcoustiPhonic preamp? If so, you will need to have the switch installed, or else all 3 signals (mags, piezo, and MIDI) will be present. The switch is a kill switch. WIthout the switch, you can't kill any of the signals.
Hello. I installed the full Graphtech ghost system in my strat. Im looking at buying a 9 string Agile through Rondo Music. I would really love to hook up a similar system in the 9 string. How did you connect all 8 strings to the acoustphonic? I followed your thred but didnt see how you managed that? I also missed how you got both hexpanders to work off the one mag/both/midi switch. Any chance we could talk via email?
@bergweg No. THey are much too big. The saddles were designed with the L.R. Baggs X-Inserts in mind. I can sell you a DIY piezo kit for your Edge Pro bridge. You may purchase it directly from me or from my eBay auction. PM me if you would like to know more. You may also search my other videos as I already made demo video of a piezo modded Edge Pro.
Hey Shotgun, I was just stopping in...lol wow..we had 19,442 views for my 8 string eh?..That is pretty cool. I hope I made you some clients dude. See ya Bro.
Im at an early stage with this, I had an idea watching you play and think im going to have to look into equipping an 8 string with piezos. I dont have a floyd rose on my 8 string, so it'll be one for down the line when I do - but I had no idea that you could get inserts like that! Love the sound and the demo you've done here, it's fantastic.
Chris Jolley It's quite a LOT of work, and it requires several thousand dollars worth of tools to perform this accurately. Let me know if you need anything.
Believe it or not, this is still me! It’s was more of an informational video for the client who’s guitar I was modifying. That was a FUN project!! Check out the video pic story of the entire process!!
Hello, are you still doing this? I tried emailing you and didn't get a reply. My guitarist is highly interested in getting this done by you please reply if interested.
that's one hell of guitar, I would definitely do business with you if I could afford the parts to make a guitar with midi/piezo. Maybe I can someday when I don't have anything else to spend money on,but even then I don't know wth MIDI is used for ( :P) and certainly don't have any MIDI equipment. I have heard about it, but if you guys on youtube can help me break down the info of what MIDI is used for...please help. Don't be an ass about it people for not knowing
@IHeartIgnorance Wow, tracking worse than this??? That is hard to believe. I was very disappointed with my initial results. Things are MUCH better now. I shipped this guitar back to my customer several months ago. He was able to tweak it. At this time, I am afraid to say that I still am not an expert as to how these converters are tweaked. I simply haven't been able to take the time to sit down with it. Sorry, shotgunn
(O-o) ... *tears* ... How much would it cost to order one of these from you... And you don't have to put sugar on the price, I can already tell it's gonna be like buying a car... All I know is I know what I want before I die...
Thanx man!!! I can make it happen on your RG-1527 if you like. Shoot me message in my inbox here if you are interested. We can put two hexpanders in it to have all 7 triggering MIDI. Thanx, shotgunn

This is the most amazing thing I've ever seen in my entire life.
...."beautiful haaaaair ~~~ flowing in the wind..........! "
God dammit now I want n 8 string with piezos ha ha.
Great piece of work man, one of the finest mods I've seen someone do to a guitar. Real awesome.
The bass part was awesome, and at 5:25 was awesome.
This is without a doubt the most amazing original awesome guitar ever concieved im absolutely blown away dude. i NEED one of these its fucking ultimate!!!

@ibanezxiphos700 The piezos are providing the 'pitch' information to the 'Pitch to MIDI converter'.

The things i would do with a setup like this. I would break worlds. Can this be done with other guitars? Or is this strictly an Ibanez specific mod?
Actually, it has improved quite a bit. I had just bought two of the AX-50's and had yet to take the time to tweak them. That, and tracking is greatly affected by the cleanliness (and lack thereof) of the player. I hadn't been playing much at the time of this video (heck, I play even less now... BUMMER!!!)
if i had that setup i would never be seen again, only heard
@mmaier2112 You are correct. I used two 13-pin interfaces and two Pitch to MIDI converters.
Is this setup possible Guitar (13pin) > AXON AX-50 Guitar to MIDI converters > GR-55 . Does this somehow improve the sound? Latency?
Did you buy the piezo transducers separately or butcher them out of a set of saddles? I have a set of Wilkinson style saddles which I bought for a project but if I could get them out I'd love to try this.
@shotgunndunn Do you have to be plugged through a computer to use the midi effects? Or can you plug the guitar straight to your amp and use the midi effects?
Now, if I want to put that (the Piezo) on my Agile intrepid as a neck pickup, do I need to buy any special hardware other than the pickup?
@shotgunndunn Oh really? do you know if there are any issues with any of the other ibanez trems?
YES.
@shotgunndunn Is it possible to upgrade a guitar with a kahler x-trem system in the same way as you've done with this ibanez?
@MrXorHomer You do not need to be plugged in to a computer. That is one option. I have used this system with a Yamaha Motif Rack. (a keyboard brain module.)

thas this controles any softwere or just a specific one...for ex. cold you play spectrasonic trilian with it? thanks m8..
This is incredibly amazing... I'd like to do it with my 9 string. =)
I wish you and I could Skype about this topic. I recently got a Graphtech for a 7 string running through a GR-55 and have some interesting issues.
You are an absolute genius. Is there any way you could do this to my 8 string? It's an Agile Interceptor Pro-B 828 w/ Duncan Blackouts (Not sure if that last bit matters). Oh and it's got a Kahler (I think 72228K) bridge.

My apologies for the delay in my response. At the time, I was using the Axon AX-50.

I have a Halo XSI 10 string guitar and I would like to know if you can outfit my guitar for this mod and pickup wiring?

Would you be able to do this with an 8 string Tune-O-Matic bridge?
....wow
@shotgunndunn So you'd have to do the same for the 7stringers, too. Bummer. But it's still probably easier and cheaper than finding a RG2027.
Hey Shotgun, I was just stopping in...lol wow..we had 19,442 views for my 8 string eh?..That is pretty cool. I hope I made you some clients dude.
See ya Bro.
@shotgunndunn
How much would something like that cost?
Sup dude. Can I ship you a guitar for this treatment? What do you charge
How much did it cost for you to do all of this to your Ibanez?
I'd be glad to help.
Is it possible to do this to a 9 string?
(with a kahler on it) i was wondering
wher I can buy this? or something like this, 8 stringed
Do Piezo pickups work with the Roland GR units?
every time i hear you play that note at 8:06 i think of shoots and ladders by korn
Fabulous! Where can individual transducers be obtained from!?
PM me, I can sell them to you. What type of guitar do you have?
Im at an early stage with this, I had an idea watching you play and think im going to have to look into equipping an 8 string with piezos. I dont have a floyd rose on my 8 string, so it'll be one for down the line when I do - but I had no idea that you could get inserts like that!

I'm looking into a Piezo for an 8 string guitar. I want too have an Evertune bridge and wanted too know what would be the best way too go about this.
You can ship your guitar to me for me to modify and install the parts.PM for more details.
shotgunndunn I have no idea how too Private Message you. I prefer email, any email I can use?
Me neither, they've changed this site so much. My email is shotgunn@shotgunnmods.net

f**k i want this...............what midi converter are you using man..excellent.
Tuning helps the tracking especially on chromatic-fast attack sound ...like piano ;)
Ohh and tracking will always suck in the low register!
@IHeartIgnorance Wow, tracking worse than this??? That is hard to believe. I was very disappointed with my initial results. Things are MUCH better now. @ekalb2185 Yes.
Absolutely! PM me for more info.
Absolutely!!! PM me for more info!!!
In the words of the great Tim Allen (from the T.V. show Tool Time) You're darn right WOW!!!
Thanx man,
Please be sure to rate and subscribe.

Can you make your guitar sound like dolphins?
I did that in another video. I think it was my Edge Pro Piezo Mod video. Take a look at all my videos... I
if i installed those pickups onto my 1527 ,would i be able to run it through ableton?
and also how much the fuck did those cost?
Thanx man!!! I can make it happen on your RG-1527 if you like. Shoot me message in my inbox here if you are interested. We can put two hexpanders in it to have all 7 triggering MIDI.
Thanx,
shotgunn
oops, i was logged in as my personal account...
Holy crap 6:30. Sooner or later, someone is going to get very famous writing a song using that technique.
D Minor, the saddest of all keys. Never mind that i'm downtuned and it's C Minor hahaha
