I remember when that happened here last month it was awesome
In the UK i've not seen thundersnow for 8yrs, its rare over here but we've had it twice this winter, end of January and the last was the beginning of February.
We've had a lot of snow events this year with most giving 3-6inches, even a few from the Atlantic which usually brings mild muck in winter. We've just lacked the prolonged deep cold events from the East that keep us in constant sub-zero conditions for a couple of weeks.
I'm sittting through this storm with power, tv, and (of course) internet connection right now when there is a driving ban in effect, 2' of snow about, and howling winds. I only saw/heard thundersnow once. This is a repeat of the 2011 storms and the 1978 blizzard.

Cool, lightning while it's snowing is really rare here in Sweden. Have only seen it once.
Thunder snow is rare but not as rare as people sometimes claim. It all depends on where you live. I spent half my life out on the east coast and I can only remember thunder snow a few times over those 12 years, each time on long island. I now live in the high desert in NM and we see it here probably about once a year on average. In the mountains you tend to see it in snow squalls that start with heavy gaupel and then transition into heavy snow. They tend to be windy and quite powerful little snow showers that last maybe half an hour. It was different in the east coast where it would arrive in the middle of very heavy and long lasting snow storms. I've only ever seen it once at night. Nice video.
i live in connecticut and when i woke up this morning, i saw that the snow was up to my shoulders, that's a whopping 48 inched tall wall of snow, and it's not a pile, it goes on and on and on and on...
I like in Arkansas and we surely don't get very much snow; however, it seems like most times that we have had snow, there has been thunder and lightning with it. It is the brightest lightning. It's spooky. I pray for all who are effected by this current storm. Be safe.

This happened a few months ago here in Holland. I drove to my house and while it was heavy snowing some lightning occurred. Strange sensation the combination of lightning and snowfall.
Thundersnow happened here in Holland as well last winter. It was in the late evening when I drove home. There was heavy snowfall and suddenly, just like in this video a bolt of lightning. It's a very strange combination.
I've only ever seen one thundersnow, and it was pretty sick. Awesome footage and stay safe!
Thunder-snow is so awesome, yet scares the living crap out of you. Especially where I live, we get it every year. The thing is, you never know when it's going to happen. You can predict the likelyhood of it going to happen by looking at the intensity of the snow on radar; but it still scares the crap out of you when it does happen. Also, the snow makes the lightning super bright being how the whiteness of the snow reflects everything..,

Ive seen thundersnow in the south of England once - its was quite bizzare!
ive heard thundersnow once in Flagstaff AZ a long time ago, wee were filling up at a gas station and this really deep rumbling boom came out of a thick snow squall
This storm still haunts me to a degree. I chased to Central MA...still got close to 20 but that was mostly from duration. We got some heavy snow that night but nothing like those bands CT and LI got. Wish I had experienced that damn
To me it's not cool. I think it's scary. I grew up in NYC and lived on Long Island and can never recall hearing thunder and seeing lightening while snowing. I appreciate you posting the video very much. My brother doesn't live that far from there.
very true! they been hitting us hard here in N Texas/S Okla last couple weeks.. almost everyday last 2 weeks. turning days that started out clear into mucked up overcast skies. the temperature actually dropped several degrees one day when they were spraying.. went from 58 to about 48 in no time, and got even cooler as the day went on. and we were supposed to stay around 60 all day.
It is lightning and thunder. It's uncommon, but known to happen with heavy snowstorms.
i didn't know thunder snow could happen until a couple years ago, it completely freaked my shit out!!

It's a shame to see people eating up The Weather Channel's forced, and unofficial, naming scheme, and referring to storms like this as Nemo.

it's not fair if its a state of emergency after emergency its not enough to pray for snow if we don't get a portion of it. Bring the rents down to $40 a month so we can get our share. We held captive in dirty filthy cities where the only sense of things is the smell of cigarettes and sour feet. Its not fair to me who spent the 12 years of public school life in long island. Please we are in exile and need to get home where we can actually breathe the air even if storm. Up to knees in store u.
