When us "boomers" dismiss the so called "modern " talent it's not that we are bitter it's just we grew up thinking of this kind of brilliance as --normal--😂
I graduated high-school in '76. We were blessed with great music. We would have 10-15 concerts a year come through featuring almost all the bands your listening on here.
Yep, we were completely spoiled!
Oh man the memories are flying back into my head and I got a great big smile on my face.
Absolutely!
Most have blinders!😂😂😂😂😂(I am serious) I deal with older folk at work.😢
We all already know the fire button will be used for this one!
Definitely smoking.
It's actually nuclear!!!
How Long (Has This Been Going On) by Ace
Yes!
Paul Carack’s vocals were great on that one!
Are we sure these blokes have not played that one? I could be wrong!😊😊❤
So many awesome tunes came out in the 70’s. No autotune crap either. Their real voices. Loved it!!! ❤️👍🏽🥰
That is why your generation has ssssso many one-hit wonders! No auto tune!!!!!😂😂😂😂😂😂
One of my favorite songs of all time. So catchy, so fun, so fun to sing a long to! Just an epic tune!
They're coming from the 70's. No autotune, just talent!
And so very much hard work to build the skills.
"Don't let the screen door hit you on your way out" 💥 I never get tired of that line😆
Glad I grew up in the 70's!
Me too...teen years for myself. Great musical decade for sure...🎶🎤🎸
Same! Concerts were epic, plentiful and affordable. And we had no idea how much music would change. We were so lucky!
Tunes this good came fast and often in my generation. At the time I doubt many of us realized just how spoiled we were to have it. It takes the passage of time and perspective to appreciate it as much as it deserves to be. I love that later generations like you guys are finding and enjoying this stuff all over again as we did. Great music is great music in any generation. Thanks for helping to bring it back to fresh ears guys.
This is an absolute gem of a One-Hit Wonder!! I especially love the organ section in the first verse.
Still sounds as great as it did the first time I heard it 😊
I haven’t heard this song in at least a decade. And I remembered every word.
Bobby Caldwell , what you won’t do for love. 🔥🔥
“Moonlight Feels Right” by Starbuck is a smooooooth OHW.
This was a HUGE it was played on the radio for a decade.
I was curious and looked up Sandford Townsend on Midnight Special. It was even better live!
One of my favorites...killer sax and vocals.
And so we go to the Church of the Distant Fire one more time. How could they have not had more hits? Outstanding.
I LOVE everything about this song!!!!! The arrangement, the lyrics, the tempo, the irony of the upbeat tempo and sad subject matter!
One Toke over the line- by Brewer & Shipley is fire! 1971
I'm 60 years old; and stuck in the 70s musically, and this one is always on my Playlists.
1977 and 1978 were the best years for pop songs 🎉
I’m partial to 1975 and 1976.
Peg, Year of the Cat, Dancing Queen were hits around this time. Some of my all-time favorites.
I prefer the songs of 1911. Seriously. Still, I love music from all years.
I think music from the 60's thru the 80's were fire compared to anything today. So much variation of talent. Thanks for bringing back the greatest music memories of our youth! Loved my teens thru 30's but lol, eventually had to grow up & love on some beautiful kids & grandkids while trying to understand their music today. Time does pass & we have found our grandkids really love this music we listened & danced too decades ago. Priceless!!! ❤
Dam we were so flippin lucky. This is on the any age guest list. Ohh dam Starland Vocal Band Afternoon Delight,
Ram Jam Black Betty, remember song not band... 😂 One toke over the line... Cheers
Music be the food of love, play on🎵🎼
OMG, I just love this song! Soooo many memories came flooding back!
Nazareth: 'Love Hurts'
Keith Carradine: 'I'm Easy'
Norman Greenbaum: 'Spirit in the Sky'
Wild Cherry: 'Play That Funky Music'
Mouth & MacNeal: 'How Do You Do?'
Frijid Pink: 'The House of the Rising Sun'
Alicia Bridges: 'I Love the Nightlife'
Carl Douglas: 'Kung Fu Fighting'
The Knack: 'My Sharona' All are one hit wonders from the 70's.
Great list!
Nazareth: Hair of the Dog
Maybe 2 hit wonder.
I played the shi* out of Nazareth's Hair of the Dog. Good album.
This is one of those songs where you just have to sit back and let it wash over you. There's not a wrong note or turn in it, nor a place where you think they should have done this or not that or it needs more or less of whatever. Perfection. The higher pitched sax you hear at the beginning is a soprano with the main sax line carried by a tenor.
You should hit Moonlight Feels Right by Starbuck. Some yacht rock that Ty should be in on honestly.
Holy fuck. I never knew who did that song. I haven't heard it in probably about 40 years. Now I need to look it up. Thank you.
❤
Some people play Air guitar, some people play Air drums, I play Air xylophone to this song
If you’re only going to have one hit, this would be it!
“and that mist in your eyes is like rain on the fire in my soul” phenomenal lyrics!
"Daytime sax." Hilarious, Nick.😂 Seriously, though, Ryan, I think the intro sax solo may have been a tenor sax, as opposed to the more commonly heard alto sax. I'm SO glad you both loved it, and that you're having a good time with the one-hit wonders.
Can't wait for you guys to do "Sweet City Woman" by The Stampeders. A fantastic one-hitter that will leave you clapping!
The Stampeders aren't one hit wonders. They had at least two in the states and many more in their native Canada.
So many groovy songs from the 70s! This was a school bus song for me!
Love that sax. You know you can never get enough sax.
I've always loved this song and just recently decided to listen to the whole album. I don't know why they weren't more popular because they had some good stuff.
A perfect song-great lyrics--great music-terrific vocals--great arrangement=Perfect.
No pitch correction, no 15 producers, no WAP lyrics, no drama.
Nick is right. They're going to be worn out by the end of the One Hit Wonder March marathon! Another absolute smash. I really hope they do "Sweethearts" by Frank E & the Knockouts.
Sweetheart is so good!!!!
Yeah, that guy can really wail!@@heatherturner6955
The 70's was epic for it's music, still rocks today and you see teens & college age kids knowing a bunch of it..
The vibes from this 1 one hit could fill up an entire album. Thank you for doing this beauty.
Kudos, Nick. The fact that you recognized that this was a song worthy of an entire listening without interruption was spot on.
One of my old school favorites 😊😊
What Does it Take by Junior Walker and the All Stars. You guys would really dig it. Y'all were just born too late!
The next one should be What ya going to do, by Pablo Cruise. Another banger.
This is another one of those great "One Hit Wonders" from 1977. The band had some other songs but not very successful. Sanford & Townsend returned to their careers as session musicians & songwriters.
You would also like the band Orleans, they had a similar sounding hit “Love Takes Time”
Ryan you say it's hard to know what song to pick, I get that! But TRUST me on this song, you will LOVE Loggins and Messina "Move On". The guitar and sax literally talk to each other. And best sax solo I have ever heard! You won't see a lot of people liking a post for that song because it is one of those brilliant deep cuts that didn't get much radio time but is amazing.
No BETTER music thsn the 70s ... PERIOD
Can't wait, an old favorite 😊
Get ready Ryan. The sax is coming in hot!
Is it just me or has it not gotten old at all to see the reactions from Ryan, Nick, and Ty (when available) when you know a sax or horns are going to hit on a song that's being reacted to on the channel? What I loved about this reaction when the horns came in wasn't just Ryan's nearly stunned look, but Nick's response to Ryan's look as Nick immediately knew what Ryan's reaction would be to the song. 😂 As a final thought, when it's a song that the channel's community has suggested, like this one, it's almost as if you're watching someone open up a surprise musical gift that you got for them. 🎁
lol at all the high pitched "oooo's". Great reaction guys! Hope you are all well. 💜💜
The music is so fab that it's easy to overlook how damn great the words are. The title alone is a highly potent metaphor, and I love how it's deployed in slightly different variations.
Oh, Yes, Yes, Yes! I'm happy just thinking about it, lol. Thanks for choosing this one.
There is no guessing when Ryan likes a song, that grin about 10 seconds in totally gives him away.
This is one of my favorites. Great song!
How can you not like bopping to this song. It’s amazing.
Looking forward to it. Great song. You'll love it. I noticed you guys haven't done any Kansas or Earth Wind and Fire.
YES!!!!! Kansas and EWF.....next month, perhaps
Always loved this song!!!
I adore this song! So many memories! Thank you. You guys rock!
I know quite a few posters and I, both on the community board and in different reaction videos (especially for R&B and/or 1970s pop songs), have been calling for Bobby Caldwell's "What You Won't Do For Love" to get a reaction video. The song peaked at #9 and it was Caldwell's only hit. It's not like "Smoke From A Distant Fire" as that song is more mid-tempo, but the vocals and music elements are very much on par in quality. I don't want to give too much away in case the guys aren't familiar with the song, but it would be hard to argue, especially for the late 1970s, that "What You Won't Do For Love" may not be one of the best "one-hit wonders" of the rock/pop/R&B era.
They’d both love the Bobby Caldwell classic. Do you know if this one hit wonders theme is only for 70’s music? Thanks.
Thanks for the reply, Gabriel. I recall Nick mentioning when the guys introduced the "one hit wonder" theme that it could be different genres and time periods. I suggested a bunch of different possibilities on the community message board from the 1950s to 2010s. There are songs that I've suggested that I personally like (such as "What You Won't Do For Love"), but I also tried to suggest unique songs or situations (such as "Buffalo Stance" by Neneh Cherry and "Save Tonight" by Eagle Eye Cherry, where a (half) sister and brother had 2 separate "one hit wonders" in 2 different decades without appearing on each other's songs). I know "Return of the Mack" by Mark Morrison from the 1990s seemed to get significant support on the board. I mentioned in my reply about that song how it was ranked just last year by Billboard Magazine as being just outside the top 300 but well within the top 500 best pop songs of all time (a fairly big accomplishment for a "one hit wonder"). The first song in the marathon ("Ah! Leah!") was released in 1980. The song ("Why Me") before this most recent reaction was released in 1982 (So, I believe the scoreboard so far is 1970s: 2, 1980s: 2). However, it does seem like a significant amount of support from posters on the community message board for this marathon and in each individual video so far have seemed to lean towards songs from the 1970s. Thanks again for the reply. I hope my response may help.
Great choice!
The thing to remember about the 60s, 70s, and most of the 80s music us old farts (1958 child here) grew up with was common all the time. When this song hit the airwaves, it had the same reaction as you guys just had. But at the time there was probably 20 other songs as kick ass as this. We got our music for the most part on AM radio , that morphed into FM with no genres attached. It was a mix of everything great no label attached. Musicianship, talent, and very little, if any technology. Pick any week of the Billboard charts in just the 70s, top 10, that’s what we grew up with, and so appreciate you guys reacting to what was normal for us, and seeing now how special it was.
Checkout their Midnight Special live version. It is just incredible. The vocals are off the hook.
Also love, love Nick's reaction....mirrors my own. How can it be this good man.
Fabulous! A long time favourite. ❤
Love you guys appreciation for the music I grew up with 🥰
This song comes charging out of the gate like their hair was on fire and stays on fire until it kicks the back door off its hinges and and just disappears instantly!
I knew you guys would love this right from the jump. Now, PLEASE do "I Got A Line On You" by Spirit and "Thunder Island" by Spirit's keyboardist Jay Ferguson!!
Brilliant song, perfect reaction 😊😊😊. Little River Band album version of It's a Long Way There is an exceptional next visit to that band❤
Groups of the 70's had to be perfect almost because there were so many groups and great shoes to fill. That's why you basically have almost perfection from every group, you had to have real talent, be able to sing and play the instruments. "Sweet City Woman" by The Stampeders is another great song you would probably enjoy!
I love Sweet City Woman!
Lots of good memories hearing this song again!!
When I saw Loggins and Messina in concert for their Native Sons tour, this band opened for them. Apparently, Kenny Loggins was something of a mentor for them. From my angle, I saw Kenny enjoying their performance from the wings.
These guys co-wrote at least one song with Kenny, Peacemaker, which is one of my favorite Kenny tunes...
"sausalito summer nights" by diesel also sweet "love is like oxygen" (long version is the best )is a timeless classic from the 70's
You youngsters crack me up, we had the best music.
I love that you love the 70’s music. It’s my favorite! It’s so fun watching you guys…keep it up and I’ll never leave your channel!♥️
"How Long" by Ace is a good one.
Oh man this was the bomb in the day! Although I probably didn’t realize the deep meaning of the tune back then.
Hello 502 neighbors! This is an excellent song!
The seventies were so chock full of great music that this song just kind of came and went during one summer hardly moving the needle. Now of course its recognized for its pop song brilliance.
How can I still remember every lyric from that far back? Because we burned into our souls that's how
Classic...never changed the radio station when this came on.
When the sax plays I think of the old SNL shows. Frequently heard vibe from those days. Great song.
I haven't heard that in a long time! Love it. Here are 2 One Hit Wonders I called "Gore Rock" back in the day. Timothy by the Buoys and DOA by Bloodrock. I have both 45's of those songs to this day! 😀 I was a weird teen. 😆
Here’s another 70s one hit wonder that’ll have you push the fire button: Nicolette Larson’s “Lotta Love”
So nice to see you guys go through a song without stopping.
Try " undercover angel" by Alan O'Day. Walmart started playing it in their rotation this month ( i spend a lot of time in walmart lol)
Awesome cool song yay, good review from you guys 👏😎👌🎤
This was one where we knew all of the lyrics! We were doing karaoke before it ever became "A Thing" ❤
Happy you guys enjoyed this, it's a great upbeat tune even though the topic is a kicking to the curb event 😅. You just can't sit still and you can't not smile when you hear it and sing it out loud.
*fire emoji*
This song , and that horn riff, made finding out someone was cheating on you seem like a peppy, happy good time! 🤣As much as anyone, I appreciate the ability today to hear just about any song whenever and wherever we want, or for old songs like this to come out of nowhere one day again because of reactors like yourselves. But man, this old song is a great example of what Queen wrote about in the lyrics of, Radio Ga Ga. The days when radio was the only way to hear new music and most of us, as kids, couldn’t afford to go out and buy every new song or LP we liked, will always have a certain lingering nostalgia. I’m just old enough to recall the nights spent staying up late to hear a song you’d been dying to hear. That’s lost today. I hadn’t heard this song in probably forty years, since I was that little kid, and it was already relegated to the “classic” 70’s stations, but I’m really happy you guys gave it a listen. Thanks!
Yes, heard this, but didn't recognize the group. Smooth song I think. 1 more, 99 red balloons from Nena 80's. So so good!
Okay, so, I didn't think I knew this song or the name of the band, but I've definitely heard this and it was played a lot on the radio.
Yess!! Finally!!! Thank you!!!!❤❤❤❤😊😊😊
Next on Marathon 🙏 🙏 🙏
Dobie Gray- Drift Away
Totally up the 502's alley !!!!!
Give me the beat boys and free my soul I wanna get lost in your rock-n-roll and ... ❤
@Elaine8492 They need to do it!!
You guys are on FIRE!!!
Never heard this before but it’s cool. Great, fun vibe and I really enjoyed the vocal arrangement.👌🏾
Thanks guys, I forgot all about this one. I absolutely loved it when it came out, but a short time later, I found out that it was true for me. My lady had smoke from a distant fire. So,I haven’t heard this song since the 70’s.
Needless to say we split and life went on, so it. Brings back bitter-sweet memories….but I really did love that song. That band had some amazingly talented members….wonder what happened to them…and if any of them went on to other great bands???
Excellent as usual gentlemen, all the best from up North.👍🎶🎸🇨🇦
The lyrics are just so clever!
You gotta love some “daytime sax.” It will win you over every time. 😁 One of the best songs of the 70’s. Great review !
Wayland the Rabbit by Seals and Croft. Dare you not to get a tear in your eye. ☺️
Thank you 😊 😅😮😢🎉😂❤😊😊
Have you guys ever heard of a band called Zebra? If not, you really need to look them up, you will be blown away by the vocals of the singer!❤❤ The song " tell me what you want "
ruclips.net/video/lVdbfxvKhHk/видео.htmlsi=UZi3Lv9L5gKZ-Wm_
Excellent song!
