      Thank you I’m hoping that it will last as minimal moving parts.

    Hi Joe I just bought a cheep 8x16 lathe knowing I will have to go through it and fix all the problems it comes with. Its a MX210V, eventually I want to install a dro but at the moment I am lengthening the compound feed screw as it has only 1" of travel. Many more problems to work through buts thats the fun of it. Thanks for your vids, I'm learning a lot. Keep the vids coming.

    Thanks for sharing. The tool library function is best used in conjunction with a solid tool post mount because you don’t lose your offsets as you will when you adjust the angle / position of the compound slide.

      @MachiningwithJoe  Год назад

      Hey dude I was hoping I could use it with my QCTP. I thought I saw a this old Tony video where he could swap tools out and the zero position would move with it.

    • @opticalmechanic
      @opticalmechanic Год назад

      @@MachiningwithJoe oh yes, it will transfer the zero position once you have programmed the offsets in X and Z but what I mean is is that if you adjust the compound slide angle or move the dial, you will lose your offsets to a degree. You can reset the angle and return the dial to where it was when you set the tool library up but it will be subject to some error. The DRO measuring the linear positions of the cross slide and the carriage but there is no feedback to the DRO on where the compound slide is.
      I did a video on how I set mine up:

    I used a magnetic scale on the cross slide (X), more compact and easy to fit.

    • @MachiningwithJoe
      @MachiningwithJoe  Год назад

      Yeah a slimline magnetic scale would have been great but unfortunately this is what you get from cheap budget import lathes.

    As a Myford lathe owner, I was lucky that MDRO supply an embedded cross slide reader for their DRO. Such a neat solution. Hidden out of sight. Well done on your own installation. Merry Christmas and a happy New Year to you and the family. 👏👏👍😀 Andrew

      Hi Andrew that must be great to have a lathe with a dro already fitted. Happy Xmas to you too all the best.

      @@MachiningwithJoe Hi Joe. No I bought my Myford Super 7 used, without a DRO. After about a year I knew I needed one and came across the company M- DRO which supplies a bespoke kit. I needed to machine the underside of the cross slide to fit the embedded DRO. Such a clever design.

    • @MachiningwithJoe
      @MachiningwithJoe  Год назад

      Oh sorry Andrew I misread your first comment. That’s awesome the bespoke kits that companies supply are great pricey but great. I did find one company that offered a kit purpose built for the M300 but it was £800ish so glad I got the import kit to work.

      @@MachiningwithJoe I know what you mean. I did toy with an import kit (like I have bought for my mill) but was swayed by the embedded cross slide feature. From memory it was about £440, so not too bad. Still a hole in my pocket 😂

    Hi Joe, watching with interest as I need to do the same thing on my M300. You are going to have to watch coolant ingress, maybe you could form an angled trough of sorts above the slot using silicone to direct any fluid away (like a gutter). Just a point of reference in case you have any new starts watching you, it was the cross slide you fitted the scale to, not the top slide (which is an old synonym for the compound slide). Cheers, Jon

      @MachiningwithJoe  Год назад

      Hi Jon yeah that is a great point they did come with some aluminium guards so I’ll have to be sure I fit it. Wouldn’t want the scale filling up with oil. Thanks for the idea all the best.

    Hello Joe,
    Does that cross slide DRO bracket interfere with the tailstock much when you are drilling stuff in your 3 jaw chuck ?

    • @MachiningwithJoe
      @MachiningwithJoe  Год назад

      Hi Graham luckily enough the tail stock quill is long enough for it not to be an issue. Any drill over 8mm I don’t even notice drill bits under and short ones then I have to have the quill extended a bit more than before.
