    Well done Joe!
    Helpful tip for you, I have found the absolute best way to clean out a fresh knurl is with brake cleaner. Blasts the oil and chips away, and air dries quickly so you don’t end up with lint from your towels stuck in the knurling. Give it a shot!

      Hi Nick thanks for the advise I will definitely try again with Brake cleaner as the WD40 took a while to clean and like you sed leaves lint from drying.

    On brass and other soft material you should feed at 0.1 to 0.5mm per rev with a depth of half the knurl tooth depth. Feeding too slow causes the teeth to crush previously formed peaks.
    In a perfect world we would feed at the pitch of the wheels.

      Thanks for that bit of info I’ll go back and try the Aluminium again 👍

      Haha thought no one would notice. This is the result of a 50th birthday party and a few to many beers.

    Hey Joe,
    Good video, odd about that Aluminium, maybe if you tried a freshly turned section?
    Also had the thought that it might have been anodized, but it looked normal.
    And after reading the other comments, Yes I did notice your Dr Evil cut, I just assumed it had to be some type of bet or other shenanigan😁
    Cheers from Down Under

      Hey Bob yeah wasn’t anodized just normal Aluminium maybe freshly turned could help but I think maybe the knurls were to fine and we’re got clogged. Yeah the haircut was more of a prank haha it will grow back 🤞🏻

    Hi Joe, thinking of buying the kit but Hemingway Knurling wheels out of stock , can you tell me the diameter and thickness of the ones you used so I can check if my old ones will fit ,

    • @MachiningwithJoe
      @MachiningwithJoe  Год назад +2

      Hey Andrew yeah sure,
      So the wheels are 1/4” hole
      5mm thick
      15.8mm diameter
      They measurements may need converted to imperial. Honestly greatly little kit/ tool well worth machining one.

    I think you could probably get a better result on the aluminum with experimenting with tool pressure and feed. No reason why you should not be able to get a good result

    • @MachiningwithJoe
      @MachiningwithJoe  Год назад +1

      Yeah I think my inexperience with knurling hasn’t helped here maybe with some more practice like you sed with different speed and feeds could get some better results.

      @@MachiningwithJoe I'm an electrician that served my time at tetrosyl and did mechanical work as well, I mainly do fitting now, installing conveyors and production lines etc but I want to learn how to use the lathe and mill, there doesn't seem to be any night courses anywhere in the northwest anymore

    I’d sooner just buy a Hemingway knurling tool - rather than buy a kit and make one.
    Sadly that doesn’t appear to be an option. 🙄👎
