  • I recently acquired a batch including a couple od Dillon presses and related gear. One of the presses is a much-used RL550B in desperate need of some care and refurbishmenht. I am going to tear it down, clean it up, replace parts as needed and get it back into tip-top shape. This is the first of several videos that will comprise this project.

I will give you credit for saving this gear, it would be a shame to see it put back in to "storage" or worse. I would have personally passed regardless of price; I will never get enough use from it to justify any investment at this stage of life. I look forward to the rebuild!

Hiya, Scholar. Projects like this often cost money. Personally, though, I’m not into the passtime for economy. For me it’s just a hobby so I don’t really count the cost. If I decide that I don’t want it, I can easily sell it fir more than I have in it. 😃

Nice haul, I had a Dillon RL550c, it was a great press once you got everything dialed in, just to many moving parts for my taste, so i sold it and purchased a Redding T7 which is more my style. Since I don`t shoot competition, I don`t need to put out 100`s of rounds an hour.

Walter, as you know, There are some reloaders that once the get a Dillon machine they believe it's a ticket to the "Snob" community. or,, I spent this much so it has to make better ammunition that anything else. I have witnessed people hitting the X-ring at 600 yards in across the course NRA High power with loadings that they made with the Lee perfect powder measure, a Lee challenger press and RCBS standard reloading dies. Now, the smoothness and operation of the Dillon is Cadillac, that is what you paid all the extra for. So, I'm looking forward to this series on your rebuild project of this Dillon equipment. (I have two 550B's for the last 25 years and they have been trouble free). Good subject and good content Walter, Peace Dude. - Dave

Thanks, Dave. The same goes with just about any genre of tool. For an adjustable end wrench, some will buy Craftsman, some will buy Crescent and some will buy Proto. They’ll all get the job done in most cases, but at the end of the they all hide in the drawer where no one sees them. 🤛🏻🔫🇺🇸
