The Kia Optima is an attempt to introduce something a little more daring to a segment that includes dull but worthy models like the Toyota Avensis. Its bold looks and well-appointed cabin will draw some attention and it also comes fitted with a 1.7-litre diesel that provides a good balance between performance and running costs.
This car is brilliant in every way, seating position. Light steering wheel, stick it in sport it becomes sharper. Infiniti sound system is a treat to the ears. I can't praise this car enough. One of my favourites.
The importance of suspension really differs from place to place. In places like Korea, Japan, and most parts of China, roads are almost perfect, and level. I've been to all three countries, and it's superior to what's in Europe, and in the Americas.
Unsophisticated cars... Right. That's why quality is great in them, and their engines have won several awards for efficiency, reliability, and output.
Kia are literally indestructible mine is a 2004 Kia Rio. She is almost 15 years old and has only ever broken down once when the clutch gave in. We put in a new clutch and she is still running perfectly. I will never find another car like her. 👍🏻
how is your car now
I also want to know
easily the best looking four door car on the market today
one day KIA will be the best car manufacturer even better than Audi,BMW and Mercedes
because of its good values , running costs , performance , practicality and realbility
APPRECIATE
Yes well they certainly are getting there. Look at the 2021 Kia Optima :)
my mom has kia over 8 years and it works well. Well done KIA!
to be honest i quite like the interior, its simple... who needs a 10 inch touchscreen if you barely use it.
my family had kia even before i was born!now my father and are thinking that i should buy the new kia ceed gt!we are very pleased with this brand for over 15 years:)
Wow a lot comments on here are pretty negative. But from experience the car has been great but then again I did get a fully loaded one so i don't know. Only thing I say they need to change is the stock tires. The road noise is loud, but once you change the rubber it's pretty quiet.
very impressive English. I wish those in the U.K or the U.S would have a second language as good as you! Here in the U.S we have an Optima with the 275 hp petrol turbo engine, which is the same engine in the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution, although it is tuned to deliver nearly 300 hp in the Evo. You can upgrade the turbo to produce 350-400hp in the optima with very little modifications, some have done so and they hit 260+ km/h no problem.
the vauxhall/opel "lifetime warranty" isnt really such. afaik, the 7 year kia warranty even covers more miles than vauxhall/opel does.
WOW MAT! Thanks for listening to us and bringing us what we want! You are an amazing car reviewer! :)
Good review of an excellent car, this would be my pick over a Mondeo.
the front grill reminds me of the new Skoda Octavia
loving this Kia, however it seems a little costly to me- 27k euro for the diesel, for which I might just prefer Superb
nevertheless, looking good
Its a great design, but you don't see many of them in the UK. I thought it wasn't even sold here. I prefer it to bmw or any premium brand. The optima GT is the best one to go for. This is the 2010 to 2015 model which looks wise is the best, good front end.
1:52 I thought my phone was ringing lol
First Kia I'd actually consider buying. Would replace the rims instantly after purchase though.
Alan Partridge has one , so it must be good !
The Vauxhall has a lifetime warranty etc? Technically it doesn't, the lifetime warranty is limited to 100,000 miles, pretty similar to the Kia's 7 year 100,000 mile warranty, however from the small print in the last vauxhall advert I saw the lifetime warranty only covers the first owner of the vehicle, whereas Kia's warranty covers all owners up until the end of the 7 year period, or the 100,000 miles, which ever comes first obviously. Still both great cars though
Riight. Because these cars have been here since 2008, and they've had no issues.
The U.S Optima comes with a 4cyl 2.4L 200hp and a Turbo 2.0 274hp
I can't imagine driving a car this big with only a 1.7L diesel. I test drove it with the 2.4L 4cyl. and it felt kind of sluggish.
I cant beliwe you rewuiewed this car , you realy listen to your subscribers , thanks a lot !
What a awesome car! 57MPG! goddamn.
Just like you said, looks good, but needs a better interior, and sat nav system too.
I really dont get it why haven't you reviewed Renault Laguna. Every other car in this segment is reviewed except for Laguna...
It is not that bad, but certain parts look kind of cheesy, for example some small white plastic bits on the front light cluster, and others on the dashboard. I have seen this car in person, and although it is a nice effort, I am not sure if the price factor is all that matters to me in a high segment car. Not that I can afford an A6, 5 series or even a E class, lol...but guess I am a badge snob. Something I recognize about myself, but germans really have it nailed concerning luxury cars.
I like this car
This car is better suited to US roads and parking spaces which are generally larger than those in Europe. Still, nice review of the diesel.
MAT IS BACK!
I can't find any videos for Lexus cars on Car Buyer :-(
The only thing i hate about mat's reviews is the fact he always says the air conditioning is standard. I'm sorry but isn't that rhetorical? All cars have that.
I wouldn't be surprised. Remember, the British use a larger gallon than Americans do.
A British (Imperial) Gallon is about 1.2 US Gallons.
British 57mpg = US 48mpg = 4.95 liters per 100km
The US Gallon: 1 gallon = 4 quarts = 8 pints = 16 cups = 128 ounces
The Imperial Gallon:1 gallon = 4 quarts = 8 pints = 32 gills = 160 ounces
1 Imperial Ounce = 0.96076 US Ounces
New Optime is VERY nice from outside and inside (I personally very like it's dashboard), but it has wrong badge and price.
The Lexus sticker's brilliant!
but is it legal? I mean its my car I should be able to choose to do whatever I want to with it. Is that right? Can I tamper with the logo?
Dude we missed u man!!!!
Not bad KIA I wonder would the dash look better with a sat nav
im definetly putting a lexus sign on mine!!! I have one on my PT cruiser now
Superb is a great car, best value for money in my opinion.
Skoda is VAG group anyway, so I count them as German cars :)
What you care about a car and what I do are different matters. I will appreciate if you can take your Accord craps somewhere else since people've heard enough already of Honda products. This is a Kia review. Thank you.
i had no idea the ford mondeo was such a good car, does this car reviewer own one by any chance, my mums was rubbish and noisy inside on bumpy roads at all speeds.
i think this KIA looks 100 times better
great review!
no he is just KING! NEW KING OF ENGLAND! ALL HAIL TO MATT!!
because its brilliant especially considering Kia was a joke of a car company not so long ago, now they are making some of the mainstream cars out there.
Haha the weird noises the car constantly makes! Those would drive me crazy, I prefer the old bong/beep noise cars use to make.
You are back browww
MAT IS THE KING OF REVIEWING:)
UK mpg is different from US mpg as far as i know.
maybe, but your gas prices are not even close to the one here in Europe
cheers
It looks to me like mix of Jaguar and BMW 5. But still the best choice for that money!
Korean name is K5
It is optima futural designs
@saboobuu I agree my grandmother owns a camry 06 not bad of a car but obviously not the best at all ! I got into a Lexus same interior layout i swear only thing they did was place some "wood like" trim on the dash an replace the badging an sell if for 10 grand more lol
nice car but that side chrome window line is just wrong
You can say that about Audi and VW then :S.
lexus cars are consistently on the top of reliability and quality surveys, are built in completely different factories to completely superior standards to many other cars.
The only reason theyr not very popular in europe its because they sell large petrol engined cars and hardly any diesels. In USA its the top luxury brand.
Sit in a Lexus and youll appreciate the attention to detail and quality. It looks nothing like a TOYOTA,
Stateside no longer offers the stick shift but we get a better engine than the diesel lump shown here
Mat drives a Mazda MX-5. You should "like" his FB site.
the kia has electric seats how cool is that
Why would you want to buy a Lexus? It is simply a Toyota dressed up a little with a much higher price. If you want a Toyota, then buy one and save the premium you'd pay for the Lexus.
Ditto for Infiniti (Nissan) and Acura (Honda). In fact, I don't think Honda even bothers to sell Acura outside of North America.
2013 Optima is one of the best midsize sedan in the world.. But this UK version(Right handle) interior is too odd...
Korean name is K5
K5 is upgraded of Optima.
You could say the same for BMW or Audi but they always ignore reliability in those studies. I don' have a Luxus but find it amazing that review like whatcar? give it average reviews when the customer satisfaction survey they report in the same issue put Lexus top. Perhaps the people actually driving the cars and are wrong! Get a 1 yr old Lexus and save the new car premium on a less reliable make. I like Kia and Hyundai but all warranties are a con to try and get you to use their £+ servicing!
Kias do look kinda good these days
In a few years, Kia will be what Toyota is today, only wit better design! ;)
Yea but check how much it costs in Europe. Its not that cheap. You cant compare prices in US and EU. In US you can buy a fully loaded BMW M3 for the same money you'd pay for a average equipped 320d in most european countries.
Taste is an odd size. You might like them, but that does not mean every one has to.
GD! We need the diesels in the U.S!
That's a damn good car period.
You should do a review on the new Chrysler grand voyager :)
Take a look at my review of the Kia Optima!
mat is awesome but rebecca is good too
Holy sh!t the optima comes standard with AC impressive!
Kia has better exteriors and Hyundai has better interiors, if you have a look at the Hyundai i40 the interior is just out-standing! However outside the i40 is just not right for me. The Optima amazed me with its exterior. Hyundai and Kia are the best car brands
Who owns these fine companies now?
LOL he left the Lexus sign on.
OH MY GOD the new Procee'd looks great! And it's a Kia! A desirable Kia! WOW! :D
Desperately needs a proper engine. Looks good on the outside.
a bit like the next mondeo from the back
we need the turbo in EU!!
It looks like a Skoda Superb from the front.
@Gwynne66 THANK YOU lol if I'm gonna buy a car I'd rather buy one who's parent company is the luxury brand which is rare ESP here in the states because the only choice is Chrysler , hyundai , BMW , merc , jaguar , but to be honest I wouldn't buy a Hyundai cause of reliability reasons & with fiat now owning Chrysler I would definitely consider them especially cause who all fiat owns, ferrari , maserrati , Alfa .....
You're not offending me, I'm just sick of seeing that stupid comment
What the hell is that sound at 3:32? Sounds like a chinese restaurant bell, lol...
That's your opinion...
@ghrpdx Surveys are not always 100% accurate & Hyundai has had a lot of reliability problems NOW it's way better but no way exceeding.
Even korean version dosen't provide rear seats fold down... Us version is the best :D
The back looks more like jaguar XF than a Lexus
I dont know what this guy is babbling about- I just bought a 2013 optima SXL (274hp+twinscroll turbo)(stock) and there is nothing slow about it. Eats 5.0 stangs all day long. Better bring a Porche!
I was waiting for that
@adamY2K That's a DAMN LIE almost every Lexus is based off a toyota variant from the body power train engine an materials it's just designed different enough & some materials are exclusive to Lexus. I know this cuz my family owns toyotas & Lexus & they really didn't change the styling from either till 2010
It is spacious
Nobody would buy a Kia with 275hp in Europe. Those who can afford such cars will go for better premium brands. Those who will buy a Kia will want a fuel efficient, cheap to run car. And 1,7 diesel probably feel punchier than a 200hp petrol in most situations due to having much more torque, and at much lower rpm.
Really nice car
makes me laugh when he says about the annoying funny noises it makes for everything (on start up, shut down, etc, etc ), YOU CAN TURN IT OFF IN THE SUB MENUS!!!!!!!!
Mat is so funny!!
THEY GET 57 MPG on Diesel engines in the UK ??!!??? Come on America!!!!!! WHY don't we have this???? Is it because we hear "diesel" and automatically FREAK OUT that the poor environment is going to be damaged? COME ON!!!
put a stop to totally wasting everyones time with scams and then creating new accounts and rating it up.
The rims look ugly and the rear fold down seats for extra space is the most usless space in the car. Otherwise it looks like a good buy
How do you get so many thumbs up?! Do you have 20 accounts?!
Toyota is good in UK, right? Then: Well said! :)
