Fusion, Optima and Mazda 6 take the cake in the midsized category. Only issue with the Optima is the 2.4 and 2.0 Theta engines. They've gotten much more reliable, but still have carbon build problems, and finicky rod bearings. That being said, my best friend has a 15 Optima and it has been flawless for 140K of abuse, neglect, dirt roads. Cosmetically it's not the best, but the mechanics of the car are holding up fine for the amount of neglect the car is subjected to. @@hl6859 Well I can’t say anything about my specific car as I sold it before 40,000 miles. But I never had any problems. I did 2 oil changes, a battery change, and changed the air filters at the suggested time and never had to think about anything mechanical wise. However my father in law has a 2013 Optima that has basically the same engine but higher output and he’s well over 100,000 miles and doing all the scheduled maintenance. The only problems he has had was the paint peeling and something in the folding mirror wiring going nuts but everything engine and transmission wise works great. I think the goose has a fine print series on GDI engines and said that so long as you use a special cleaner every x amount miles you should avoid that build up problem but I could be misremembering. All in all, I think it’s a good engine, turbo or NA, and should be pretty reliable should you take care of it.
@@hl6859 Just know, like I soon will, as I'm getting a 2016 Kia Optima SXL, that these cars are known for engine failure. There was a class action lawsuit against Hyundai/Kia about 'faulty engines' and they had to recall like a million cars because of it. If you install the KSDS, it will give your engine a lifetime warranty. You have to be on point with your maintenance schedules, and to avoid headache in the future, only go to Kia to get those done or else they can more than likely deny any serious issue that may arise, should you wish to be compensated for it.
Yup this is the video that made me buy my 2018 Kia Optima. I watched it 3 years and fell in love with the car. Haven’t had an issue with my Optima since I got it ❤

Loving our new 2017 SXL...swift, quiet and the luxurious nappa leather interior in brown. Turbo engine really gets up and goes when prodded! Thanks for your review!
Bought my Optima a year ago. Still very happy with it. Here in Russia we don't have many of them, mostly Camry. Now people started to understand that Optima is better for it's price.
Just in case anyone sees this video and looking in the used market, I just picked up a 2016 sxl and hands down my favorite car ever. Such a fun car to drive. I work and drive in Dallas tx and flying around the interstates and loops is a joy.
I’ve always thought these were great looking cars, but had the chance to drive one as a rental in the mountains, canyons and high desert of Colorado a few years ago. We drove over 1100 miles across 4 days, and I very much enjoyed the car (and it wasn’t even the turbo model).
Excellent review. Mad ball skills, btw. I think KIA needs to do what Hyunday is planning on doing with the Genesis brand, it needs to set itself apart from the affordable car and get into the luxury car game. The optima might not be the car for it, but thinking of the Cadenza or the k-900? 9000? (or whatever the hell name is). And for the love of God, start offering AWD in its sedans. Also, I'd totally buy a wagon Optima. Here, take my money Kia.
Do you remember the inarguably poorly made Kia Sephia from the late 90's to the early 2000's? I just remember how everybody that owned them had NOTHING good to say about them, and their reliability was non-existent.
Here we are in 2022, & I'm strongly considering getting this car used with low miles, especially bc of the value for the $$ with the features & performance you get in this car
It's great to see how far Korean manufacturers have come in just the last 5-7 years concerning design and quality. Now if only US manufacturers can pick up the pace in the same way. I've always dug the music and just noticed it's credited as in-house. Any chance they're made available outside of the videos?
Huss Ali Well I end it up.keeping my 2015 Optima...I'm not changing it after all...They want to charge me 700 monthly for the 2016 when I'm confortably paying 348 for my 2015 and is a good car...
Norman Rivera I currently own a 2014 Optima sxl I just hit 50,000 miles it’s well kept I was trying to figure out should I buy the Cadenza or stinger I want to go up a level I realized that I need a softer ride since I live in Missouri which has crappy roads
On my second Kia,only one problem in 5 years, a sticky gas release door. And that was with the 2011 model(first year out). The 2013 in Silver is a real looker in my opinion. Great review as always.
Good review. Personally, i can't say the car does much for me, but it seems to be a pretty good car overall. I just can't get excited over generic fwd 4 cyl turbo auto generic bullshit. Hope whatever happened with/to Scott isn't too bad ... hope to see him again next time.
+Tristan Han Because it's in my subscriptions. A mid-sized family sedan doesn't have to be boring. I used to own an M5. That was exciting, lol. Sad that you equate mid-sized family sedan to boring generic power plants. I guess you must not be all that imaginative. So why are you responding to my comments?
My 2015 Hyundai Sonata 2.0T I had, I absolutely hated the engine and transmission. It had a ungodly loud high pressure fuel pump. Buzzed way to bad. I got rid of it 13 months later. I have a 2018 elantra sport now and LOVE it..
Hope all is well with Turbo....your reviews are such a welcome change. Love your reviews. The Basketball skit was hilarious I see why your wife is with you. Great work!
Kia has really been stepping up their game lately, and I think they really need a new badge to help reflect that. Their badge still carries a bit of a stigma because it reminds everyone of their former reputation for crappy cars. They are a new brand now.
I don't understand why he would turn traction and stability control off and then complain about torque steer and peeling the tires... i'd assume Kia has tuned those systems to help calm down the front wheels during acceleration and hard driving.
+ac12311 The reason behind turning the aids off is to show how the actual chassis and car behaves under load. A vehicle that is better setup will be more neutral and less reliant on electronic controls to banaid issues.
Pretty sure you make some of the best videos on youtube as far as content and quality. Ridiculous you don't have more subscribers. Have you thought about blowing the cars up? Maybe fireworks in the opening segment?
I concur with your assessment of the optima. I've had 5 or 6 of these now my latest is the 2017 LX (FE) used but the previous owner added some nice extra features like Homelink. They only put 6k on her and I picked this up for around 13K.

The only complaint i have here in Australia Kia CT Optima doesn't come with the smart parking Assist(spas) system or the 360 view which sucks, maybe I can ask my local dealer if he can import one from the UK.

The question is how does the Optima SX matches against the Mazda 6. They both seem to be the most driver oriented midsize cars. The Optima has the better engine but Mazda the better gearbox. The interior looks the same. What are your thoughts?
+Trades46 it's a really hard choice they're both my favorite midsize cars. I think I would still take the Mazda as a daily grinder. No turbo to worry about less complication.
one of your top choices overall, nice... I'm deciding on buying a new car and stopped here, the other review from another person didn't talk to highly of this car but after watching this review I'll go out to the Kia dealer and test drive one... I'm deciding between Honda Accord, Civic and this Kia Optima and maybe a used Acura. thanks
Hershey Sperber The headlights have a special technology eliminating the need for fog lights, but due to people complaining and still wanting fog lights, you can get them on the new 2018 model.
I know this is a year later, but here is the answer, they replaced the fog lights with the vents for 2 reasons. 1: It reduces the wind noise. 2: It cools the front brakes.
I like how Kia really upped the quality in this car...but what I'm not sure about is the accompanying heft that came with it. At ~3550lb this arguably is one of the heaviest mid-sizer on sale in North America. Considering it lacks a V6 or AWD hardware, this is very heavy for a FWD sedan. This means higher real-world fuel use, faster brake/tire wear & despite the better suspension tuning, a sloppier handler. I still think it is a very nice car (Kia has come a long way) and the I much prefer the Optima over the Accord, Camry or even the Altima. However, the Fusion also has a similar 2.0T with same level of power, looks just as good & AWD (and yet somehow weighs 60kg LESS). That would be my pick of the group.
+Trades46 The SX despite the weight feels vastly more solid than even the Fusion. They have this thing well put together. Yes the weight is too much for a 4 banger and that might be a deal breaker for some but don't let that fool you it's one of the best handling/feeling in segment.
some loon who had one of these tried to race my 94 probe gt by gassing it in the midst of a rotary...he almost sideswiped me as his tires were spinning..probably came on the boost IN the rotary..idiocy at its best..... when i was on the straits it couldnt pass me which is odd cuz its alot more powerful...dead even up to abt 60mph...maybe he wasnt trying
It is amazing to me the RPMs people think it is fine to run an engine at under no load. Do you think MAYBE that is why the car upshifts for you...upshifts which you complain about in this video?? I have run engines like that in the past. In every case, it wasn't long until the engine was leaking oil and blowing blue smoke out the tailpipe.
Question: So I just bought the Optima SX a few weeks ago. I notice that when I start up the car, only the exhaust on the driver side shoots out smoke, the one on the passenger side doesn't. Should I be concerned that there is blockage, or is this normal for cars with duel spout exhausts?
That's great to hear! Thanks. and I did feel if any air was blowing out of the right one with my hand, it was, just not as strong and not visible as the left one. Thanks again for your reply!
Thank you, appreciate it. Actually someone asked us to release them and then we started getting copyright notices for our own creations. So people are already stealing them, uploading them for themselves and claiming copyright. Really annoying. So that's the main reason I wont release them as a simple download.

Haven’t had an issue with my Optima since I got it ❤
These are coming off leases now. Around 1/2 price of new with remainder of warranty, very tempting.
Im glad that you pointed out that this is the official car of the NBA, because not too many people know that! As always, excellent attention to detail. Freakin love these reviews!
I've often said that top gear was great for three things, and that one of them was cinematography. I got that same vibe here. Very nice work.
I changed the tires on mine to Michelin Premiers. No more tire squeel and feels much more planted to the road.
Such a great review! Thinking of getting a CPO 2016 SX early next year and this just about put me over the edge
Do it I just got a cpo 16 sxl for the seats and 360 camera and the little red L badge just looks so good I can't stop driving it
Just in case anyone sees this video and looking in the used market, I just picked up a 2016 sxl and hands down my favorite car ever. Such a fun car to drive. I work and drive in Dallas tx and flying around the interstates and loops is a joy.
Cameron Myrick you think the sx was worth it compared to the other models ?
This car is the best!! Just bought a band new 2016 EX last saturday.
rahemma smith how much did it cost you?
Just bought a brand new 2016 SXL today, cost me $34000 after tax.
I’ve always thought these were great looking cars, but had the chance to drive one as a rental in the mountains, canyons and high desert of Colorado a few years ago. We drove over 1100 miles across 4 days, and I very much enjoyed the car (and it wasn’t even the turbo model).
I'm buying one this weekend. I'm sold. I'm getting this baby
I was thinking kia can go more towards sport division direction hyundai luxury
+tochjo772 That's exactly what I was thinking as well because most people already have that mentally about the two.
+Alberto Lemus Well, Hyundai and Kia are part of the same company, so a luxury Kia division would kind of be redundant.
Alberto Lemus I've heard kia also will take apart for their lux division.
they are going full speed ahead with no stoppin.
"the korean style"
Do you remember the inarguably poorly made Kia Sephia from the late 90's to the early 2000's? I just remember how everybody that owned them had NOTHING good to say about them, and their reliability was non-existent.
Here we are in 2022, & I'm strongly considering getting this car used with low miles, especially bc of the value for the $$ with the features & performance you get in this car
I'm devoted to your channel , your merciless soul precedes you , you are simply the best reviewer there is to watch . Blessings , Theo .
Man the way the intro music was playing I was expecting Daniel Day Lewis to pop up with a tomahawk. Love the video!
Should've just stuck the 1.6 Turbo with the 7-speed DCT. I get to 60mph in 6.6 seconds in my Hyundai Sonata Eco now that it's fully broken in.
MotoBoy on a 1900 mile trip we averaged 37 mpg in our eco. Awesome car!
They have the 7 speed and 1.6t in the EX trim now
It's great to see how far Korean manufacturers have come in just the last 5-7 years concerning design and quality. Now if only US manufacturers can pick up the pace in the same way. I've always dug the music and just noticed it's credited as in-house. Any chance they're made available outside of the videos?
Agreed, end of the year I'll have a download for all the tracks.
I have an Optima 2015 and I'm changing it for the 2016...Beautiful car!!!
Norman Rivera that's not good for negative equity
Great review as always.
amazing you always seem to step up your game on every new video
Is the elantra sport faster then ur sonata?
Who the hell edited this, so fire bro 🔥🔥🔥
Hope all is well with Turbo....your reviews are such a welcome change. Love your reviews. The Basketball skit was hilarious I see why your wife is with you. Great work!
I wonder why the same car woth the same specs is called an SX in the US, but a GT in Australia?
15:41 That particular pan/shot reminds me of Audi. I know Kia got Audi's exterior designer, but did he make the designs for the inside of the car too?
Pretty sure you make some of the best videos on youtube as far as content and quality.
Ridiculous you don't have more subscribers.
Have you thought about blowing the cars up? Maybe fireworks in the opening segment?
I concur with your assessment of the optima. I've had 5 or 6 of these now my latest is the 2017 LX (FE) used but the previous owner added some nice extra features like Homelink. They only put 6k on her and I picked this up for around 13K.
Hi, do you have any knowledge about the reliability of the 4 cylinders? I have tried to do some research but some people say the GDI is not good after ~60k miles (knocks, oil build up in the cylinders). Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you.
The only complaint i have here in Australia Kia CT Optima doesn't come with the smart parking Assist(spas) system or the 360 view which sucks, maybe I can ask my local dealer if he can import one from the UK.
On my third Optima SLX....they have been bullet prove for me. Love the wireless charging in my 2016. The car is much quieter now also.
Hi, do you have any knowledge about the reliability of the engine (turbo or na)?I have tried to do some research but some people say the GDI is not good after ~60k miles (knocks, oil build up in the cylinders). Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you.
I have exactly the same, KIA looks amazing in white color the same as Sorento, Santa Fe, Tucson...just looking richer and it fits so well to them.
The tan leather, black plastic with some chrome looks really good.
I’m thinking about getting one. I currently drive a Kia Forte.
Timbuktu G i just bought it for $21,000 with 21,000 miles on it, its turning out fo be a gem. Enjoying it only for two days now. Should definitely test drive one.
chris haffey will do.
Those kicks make that attempted layup even more historical!!
2016 kia optima sx turbo 84k on it 2 owners. car looks great and i had a 16' Lx Optima any opnions? i wanna buy it any help would be appreciated
How well are the engines holding up?
one of your top choices overall, nice... I'm deciding on buying a new car and stopped here, the other review from another person didn't talk to highly of this car but after watching this review I'll go out to the Kia dealer and test drive one... I'm deciding between Honda Accord, Civic and this Kia Optima and maybe a used Acura. thanks
where can i find the intro music?
If there is non turbo version. Would this be my next 05 tsx replacement?
Any plans on reviewing the stinger gt?
How long do they last (optima) I have a 2020 Nissan Maxima but my girl wants a optima do they last long I’m talking about close to 200k ?
Just got my Kia optima 2018 SXL never saw this video but Im glad I got this car it is really nice
It's a beautiful car. But why are there no fog lights?
Hershey Sperber The headlights have a special technology eliminating the need for fog lights, but due to people complaining and still wanting fog lights, you can get them on the new 2018 model.
I know this is a year later, but here is the answer, they replaced the fog lights with the vents for 2 reasons.
1: It reduces the wind noise.
2: It cools the front brakes.
I just got a 2012 optima lx and it has fog lights.. it’s a hybrid... and boy Is it fast 💨
I've watched so many car reviews that if I could get a new vehicle. I don't know what I would get
Good review. What's the name of the song used at the beginning of the review? Had kind of an Indian feel to it.
+gorviv529 Self Made no title
Wow savage, upload a longer version of that track
Man, that Hyundai Nurburgring centre looks a lot bigger than Honda's trusty old Nurburgring workshop.
I need the Piano song name please. (The intro)
do you prefer the new Kia Optima 2.0 turbo than the camry xse, and honda accord?
do the 2016 accord v6 touring !!!
wow, such a great reviews you are doing, now I need to see them all...
Cygnus Lactation Services lol, he cracks me up with the addresses he puts in on the info screens
Loving the cinematography
some loon who had one of these tried to race my 94 probe gt by gassing it in the midst of a rotary...he almost sideswiped me as his tires were spinning..probably came on the boost IN the rotary..idiocy at its best..... when i was on the straits it couldnt pass me
which is odd cuz its alot more powerful...dead even up to abt 60mph...maybe he wasnt trying
Another great review. I am happy to see a different color interior than black or that really easy stained white. Hope to see some VW reviews sometime.
Looking forward to your review of the 2018 Kia Stinger GT2
It is amazing to me the RPMs people think it is fine to run an engine at under no load. Do you think MAYBE that is why the car upshifts for you...upshifts which you complain about in this video?? I have run engines like that in the past. In every case, it wasn't long until the engine was leaking oil and blowing blue smoke out the tailpipe.
i really love to buy this car.thanks for the review.now i know whats my next vehicle.cant wait to drive this car.
I'm not buying bc of the gd gdi. Why not just make it multi port injection and fix the problem?
Funniest review yet, you've got a real talent goose
Question: So I just bought the Optima SX a few weeks ago. I notice that when I start up the car, only the exhaust on the driver side shoots out smoke, the one on the passenger side doesn't. Should I be concerned that there is blockage, or is this normal for cars with duel spout exhausts?
+Brian Ngac That is completely normal for those exhausts usually only under harder throttle will you see exhaust gas out both tips.
That's great to hear! Thanks. and I did feel if any air was blowing out of the right one with my hand, it was, just not as strong and not visible as the left one. Thanks again for your reply!
what's that song you use in the intro?
tried shazaam but didn't give out anything
thanks :)
+mestoram Almost all of the music is self produced. We have to make our own to avoid copyright crap.
Wow props man, it sounds great! You should release them! I love the music at the beginning of your videos :)
Thank you, appreciate it. Actually someone asked us to release them and then we started getting copyright notices for our own creations. So people are already stealing them, uploading them for themselves and claiming copyright. Really annoying. So that's the main reason I wont release them as a simple download.
ahh ok thanks
This car looks so good, I want one.
