I stumbled across a short video and now I've binged 10 episodes on here today (I'm meant to be working lol) loving the project so far, liked and now subscribed.
I have found that wearing gloves whenever I'm doing any kind of heavier work is very beneficial to reducing hand-strain. I buy the kind that are fairly light weight, with rubberized palms and fingertips. You'll have better grip on almost everything. I love watching these old buildings being cared for and revived!
I know it's a pain between the ear protection and the dust mask, but eye protection is super important for most of the work you are doing. Milly, you go girl! The time to do all this work is when you are young, before life gets to complicated. What you are doing is removing a lot of the 're-muddling' that was done previously. I love the original stone arch (though weird it was right next to the fireplace), and I totally agree that the matching alcoves on either side of your cooker will look so much better. Hope you take a little time to rest, so you don't get too burnt out. This is a fun project to watch; a lot of different issues from the wood-built Victorians we have in the U.S.
From our experience 12 years ago, doing pretty much the same kind of project, whatever your budget is then you need to double it. There will be so many 'surprises' along the way, some not so nice and very expensive to fix. We vowed after finishing our Victorian rennovation project that we would never do it again. It was 2 years of hell. That said all projects are different so I wish you all the luck in the world.
I do hope that little tiny piece of plywood has protected those lovely tiles fingers crossed😊 amazing work as always 😊 caught one of the shorts earlier on and of course now I’m binge watching trying to get caught up. What a great couple you are so genuine.
I love love love that you are both so courageous in doing demo. You are both tearing into those walls determined to beat this place back to its original design and restoring the structure back to home for a family. You are erasing all of the damp and the existence of the medical facility. I have done countless years of demo on many structures to restore buildings into space and comfortable homes for families. You always have something new each day, its never boring.
That was quite impressive to watch Louie fit in the lintle and rebrick above ( unless of course he comes from a family of masons?) All practcal knowledge is always an asset for learning new skills.
Next time you do a brick wall removal, consider a concrete (circular blade) saw. You'd be able to cut all the way through the first layer of bricks, leaving a nice edge where you needed to keep bricks, and then use the reciprocating chisel to cut a line out of a course and then drop 5-10 courses at a time onto the ground. You'd be through that wall in an hour or two.
You both impress me so much!!!! So capable! It's wonderful watching you both talking, explaining and working side by side! I really am beyond impressed with both of your capabilities ❤
Great work with the demo, Millie! I'm enjoying all the practical tips on how to go about doing a demo safely and efficiently. The reinstated alcoves on either side of the cooker would make beautiful built-in bookshelves!
Good morning, you two young people are making truly excellent progress on the villa, asvothers have said, you are always positive, well on camera you are😎, I do hope you give yourselves some down time, very bedt regards from a Kiwi living in Australia, Les
Rather than removing the side doorway nearest where you want a downstairs bathroom, it might be worth making it another hidden door so you and your guests don’t have to walk all the way round to pop to the loo 😊
Oooh for the first time I recognize something that could have been me 😂 ”It is stuck in the wall, sorry” 😂 I have been soo impressed by all the things you do, this showed me you are human, not the wonder woman, Well maybe still a little. The Human Wonder Woman in this beautiful house 👌 Living with the Wonder Man that seems to know all the things you need to make this house spectacular 👏Lots of love from Sweden 🇸🇪
A lot of work to be done with the room. Looking good 👍 to me. Your friend Shirley from new Bern, north Carolina USA. Good luck what you are doing , keep it up until it's done.❤🎉🎉🎉🎉😮😅🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉😅😊
the oposite side of the secret panel you could make the door a moving book case so then its a secret door on both sides creating a secret room (not sure your plans for that room, but since your making a secret door it could become a office/library)
You work so hard! I am amazed at your energy to keep moving forward but it sure is going to be nice when completed. Love the new door opening and what a great difference it makes looking thru to your stair case. Great job! Been watching since your first episode from Wisconsin, USA
Interesting! You could make it a Hidden door from the Fireplace side, than accentuate the Arched door from the other side - it could make a great contrast!
Ok… love the change from the office to a games room. Yes!! And the secret door is genius. Someone mad a point about having the laundry somewhere off the ground floor… worth thinking about
Love the new pool room speak easy. What about making the alcoves on both sides of the old oven into book shelves so you have pool room/ library / whiskey room…make it dark and moody. Would be awesome if somehow the old oven could be turned into a “fire place”. Just a thought, love it!
fun fact... if you are using anythign like a sander, grinder, or SDS drill/hammer chisel... go mains powered as batteries never last.. that or get a lot larger batteries
Agree. Batt. powered tools is good for something, mostly hobby and smaller DIY projects, but if you're gonna knock a lot of walls/bricks down, use corded tools: They're lighter because you don't have to carry a heavy battery with you, and they're more powerful because the motor are stronger and gives more bang for the bucks, so to speak. lol For SDS drilling and hammer chisling I recommend HILTI, best brand in that line of tools.
it might be nice to keep the door that leads straight to the hall with the toilet so it's quicker to use the loo if you're playing pool and having drinks, etc.
super cool and thanks for posting...I've been flipping houses in the US for 30 years which is how my BF and I were able to retire at the age of 50! so fun watching your channel. Request: since I'm binging to catch up, at the end of each video, would you put the following video on the "End Screen" so I anyone can just click and move forward, rather than needing to find the next episode manually? I think you maybe losing some people because we are, in essence, lazy so easier keeps people watching. :)
22:33 it sounds like the ghost is knocking after both of you were walking out. Also if you use the stove in that room keep in mind it gets very warm in the room my friend put one similar in her house she was so unaware of the heat it puts out.
It would be so cool if you could have that wall as exposed stones in the billard room - maybe you could plaster the brick parts with a similar grey to the stones, or a completely different colour that match the rest of the room design…
When loading a wheelbarrow put most of the weight over the wheel. The more you load the back the more tired your arms will be. The one you’re using isn’t deep enough in the front. Keep up the good work!
Loving your videos, just thinking do you have space to do your laundry room upstairs? All your clothes are stored there so it really makes it alot easier then lugging baskets up and down, for some reason us English often just assume they should be downstairs but if is an option upstairs its worth considering!
Recently found this channel and have been absolutely binging to catch up. The progress is amazing - do you both have full time jobs while you work on the house? It's a staggering amount of work. When do you plan to finish enough that you could move in? I love seeing two people find ways to save money on huge projects and take a hands on approach to renovating.
I thought originally you guys would have kept the original brick archway door but guess that wasn't feasible given the wall built out of the middle of the archway. I've never had the talent to renovate a structure but enjoy watching what you guys are doing. My great grandparents were from Wales and my grandma was fortunate enough to visit a neice in Wales before she passed away. I love historical buildings and you guys have a lovely home. Thank you for sharing!
Wow! Um…no dust masks and eye protection when jackhammering and removing bricks and mortar/plasterboard? What an interesting undertaking. The history would be fabulous! If those walls could talk. 😊❤️🇨🇦. Oooops, sorry, I take my comment back about protection. 😉
I can give you advise. Next time when you´re about to take brick wall down. Use hammer to soften cement covered brick wall. It´ll be easier to remove it.
Er.. Did it not occur to you guys that a percussion drill used as a breaker, is a very energy hungry device... ... IDEALLY suited to being mains powered.... .....and, given that you HAVE mains power.......!?!? Love your work, by the way......!!
Has she said anywhere the cost of this renovation? I'm really curious. Obviously, they are saving a lot by doing most of the work themselves but the surprises have to add up.

Louie is what my southern mama would call a “keeper”!😂 He seems great! That alcove/niche in the billiards room would be a great bar!!!
Louis is a cutie! I like his red hair!
