      Sounds like it would make for great content. I'd be willing to bet they are fairly similar. Too bad the KO2 is so much more $.

    • @Icutmetal
      @Icutmetal 5 лет назад

      Thrifty Garage I would agree. I don’t think they’re a ton more expensive; I’m looking at 275/65R20’s, and they’re within $20-$25 per tire. Perhaps other sizes have a greater disparity.

    • @FantomLightning
      @FantomLightning 5 лет назад +2

      @@Icutmetal Historically in certain sizes I've looked at compared to the KO2 the Grabbers (including the predecessor of the ATX the AT2) can have nearly $100 difference in price between the two. If the ATX is truly an improvement on the AT2 there's no question to most the Grabbers are the better value. Many reviews (especially on Tire Rack) are from people who previously owned KO2s and moved to the Grabbers.

    NE care to comment on how these compare with the universally beloved BFG All-Terrain?
    (not the K02, but the normal "All-Terrain"?)

    • @ThriftyGarage
      @ThriftyGarage  3 года назад +1

      Honestly I’ve never purchased a set of new BFG tires. I’ve always wanted to but the premium cost was always hard to justify. I did purchase a set of used KO2s that were at the end of their life and they were lousy in wet and snowy conditions. Even though they had some tread they acted like a drag slick around corners.

    Look great. I have a 2017 SR5P and debating on staying at stock size or moving up to 275 for either these or the Falken WIldpeaks. Do you have any lift, etc? My worry is rubbing if I go higher.

    • @ThriftyGarage
      @ThriftyGarage  5 лет назад +1

      Depends on the tire manufacturer. I have a stock suspension. I looked up the specifications from the manufacturer to ensure the actual tire height and width would not interfere. TireRack.com has some good I formation. These are 32.2"x11" according to their website.

  • @KevinSmith-4Liberty
    @KevinSmith-4Liberty 4 года назад

    I have a stock 2019 TRD Off Road 4Runner. I get 19.5 MPG. Looking at staying stock size tire or 275. What do you think my MPG will drop to? Grabbers are heavy tires just like Falken’s are. My only other choice for a light weight 275 is a Firestone Destination AT in 275/70R17 C load. Scared to go to a E Load because of tire weight.

    • @ThriftyGarage
      @ThriftyGarage  4 года назад +1

      You will definitely see a drop in mpg if you install a heavier tire. The factory tire is very light even when compared to similar tires in the same size and load rating. Likely a big contributor to how Toyota has achieved the higher mpg to begin with. Also if you increase tire size your speedometer will be off. It will also affect your mpg because the mileage will be slightly off.

    Can you comment on highway noise and handling with these tires? Any mpg loss?

    • @ThriftyGarage
      @ThriftyGarage  3 года назад

      I have several newer videos you can check out if you are seriously considering this tire. I will briefly answer your questions but since my tires are oversized and heavier duty (Load Range E) my experience might be a result of the modifications beyond stock and not the tires’ fault. Road noise some, but not bad, better with 5,000 miles rotations. Yes, mpg loss mostly due to extra weight. Probably lost 2 mpg over the crappy stock tires.

      1500? I'm assuming with an 8 ply you are load range D. Manufacturer recommended tire pressure should be labeled inside the driver door jam. Should be around 32 psi for the front and 35 psi for the rear.

    How many miles and tread depth now? Have you taken them off road ?

    • @ThriftyGarage
      @ThriftyGarage  4 года назад

      I don't have a tread depth gauge, but they still look like new. They probably have around 10-15,000 miles on them. I did start to develop some cupping and uneven wear. But a simple rotation resolved that. I'd recommend rotating every 5,000 miles.

    • @ThriftyGarage

      Sadly the 4Runner is mostly a family vehicle and a grocery getter. We used to take our previous 4Runner and Tacoma to Moab on the off-road trails yearly. It's mostly a pavement queen. The times I have taken it off pavement it has performed excellent. We were actually passing through Moab a few weeks ago and hit up some quick trails. No noticeable cutting or chipping.

    • @ThriftyGarage
      @ThriftyGarage  4 года назад

      Stock. But you have to be careful. I use resources such as tiresize.com and tirerack.com for research. There are fitment variations even with different brands in the exact same size. Also, there are usually resources available for vehicle specific oversized tire size and what is likely to fit without rubbing and what size requires minor modifcations. I selected both this tire and size based on that research. This was the largest size tire that would fit without a lift or other mods. If you are unsure some tire shops will actually test fit larger tires for you and see if you have the correct clearance from fenders and suspension components.

    • @ThriftyGarage
      @ThriftyGarage  4 года назад

      These are load range E so a bit heavier than load range C. Average 15-16 mpg with my wife driving; I get probably 1-2 mpg less. This is a huge improvement over the stock tire. This is a tight fit. No rubbing that I have experienced. But I would be slightly concerned that studs would rub in this size.

      I've never had a rubbing issue. That doesn't mean every 4Runner won't rub. Stock suspension and stock wheels. Different tires in the exact same size may very well rub due to inconsistencies in actual dimensions.

    Are they noise ?

    • @ThriftyGarage
      @ThriftyGarage  5 лет назад +4

      When I first installed them they were surprisingly quiet for how deep the lugs were, as well as the semi aggressive tread pattern. I need to do a 10,000 mile review video; they started cupping, which was maybe preventable if I would have rotated the tires sooner. Needless to say once the cupped tires were moved to the rear they were noticeably loud. Now that they have another few hundred miles on them they have become more quiet.
