gosh you do portraits so well. watching this made me realize how much of chalamet's recognizability rests on the colors of his face hair eyes etc because the sketch made me think of generic handsome anime guys but the finished painting is like, yeah that's him. sorry if this sounds weird it's def a compliment! also you're so right about papers... last time i gave up on watercolor it was because i was trying it on copy paper lol
ngl from the thumbnail I thought it was a random handsome guy too. Funny since Chalamet's looks always seemed so boyish and more on the "pretty" side to me, but her drawing makes him look a bit more mature... for a lack of a better word. lol hope u have a better experience w/ watercolor
This piece is beautiful! It just goes to show that skill is what makes you a good artist, not the art supply. I really love your watercolor paintings, and I really want to paint like you some day
I can totally understand liking certain cheap paints because given the mindset that they're cheap, you're more free to do whatever and throw caution to the wind because... money is nothing in relative sense to those types of art supplies. I can only assume rich people dont have the same fears about overusing precious materials if they can easily afford it.
I just discovered you by this video and I'm in love with Timothee Chalamet's acting, especially in CMBYN. I love the movie and the book so thank you so much for painting him!! This is really awesome to see, you got a new subbie!!!
@@hambot I cannot find the watercolor one anywhere, not in the a5 (large) size I enjoy, so right now I use the regular sketchbook for that, I find it doesn't bleed trough or buckle if you use a very very small amount of water, it also flattens and dulls the color of expensive watercolors, but not these cheap ones since they sit ontop
@@hambot You can also use victoria's journal plain notebook. They also don't bleed through the back of the paper but it buckles because its very thin. So I suggest to use a small amount of water like Sally said.
I do have cheap watercolors because I bought them for their metal case and I was also surprised how strong their colors are but I would still not recommend them for beginners because they do not behave well with watercolor techniques so what beginners will experience is that people do beautiful things in videos and they cannot replicate them so they will just quickly give up on watercolor. A 12 colors student grade set is available from the price of 15-20 USD. And they are worth the investment. They are designed for learning how to watercolor. Imo, buy a Winsor & Newton Cotman set, or a Van Gogh set and Canson XL aquarelle paper, or Bee paper and you are good to go.
your art seems so effortless!😍i don’t even know how to use watercolors😭they’re my worst medium, but ummmm i might have to go to an art store real quick.....
Thank you for this, I've been pondering whether or not to buy a good quality set of watercolours for a bit now but I don't really want to spend my money yet lol. I have a bunch of these at home and I guess its gonna be ok for practice. Your art is wonderful as always :>>!
I really, really loved both pieces, but the first one is 😍😍😍🖤🖤 I swear, the way you lay the colors down is so bold and confident, and I hope one of these days I’ll be able to do that too! Tapos when you add the inking talaga 🥲🥲🥲🖤🖤🖤🖤 I super love it! Regarding the cotman, I think it’s still fair to say if you enjoyed these more, especially since the price difference is probably insane 😂😂 ugh. I should get painting TuT next vid tips on how to motivate yourself to do daily practice or daily art 😂😂😂 PS: I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO FIND OUT WHAT THOSE BRUSHES WERE HAHAHAH thank you! Imma go try to look for them coz I need new brushes 😂😂
Is it okay to let the paint pans contaminate ? (I mean like - can we just lift off some paint to the palatte first, then mix it with others... leaving the pans as vibrant as new ?)
The thin about children's watercolor is that they're chalky, but I have watercolor that is sooo cheap but is super pigmented, and I love it more than the expensive ones that I just both, it's just that it's chalky.
I got my Pentel brushes from the stationary section at Pacific Mall, however I don't know about the other brand :( I use the Berkeley synthetic brushes because they have them in store.
If you're looking for bright and vibrant watercolors, try m graham watercolors. They're expensive but extremely vibrant and they have alot of muted colors as well.
i watched this again because I need to buy this watercolor too! Is it chalky ? I hope you will try another cheap watercolor brand! 😫 you’re soooo gooooooddd! 🤍🤍🤍

artist loft is a micheals crafts store exclusive brand so RIP, do agree tho, their brushes are pretty good!
I had no idea! That's so sad :/
Now I get it
The problem isn't with my colours
But with me
If you're struggling, it's very likely the paper is the culprit :) it's the most important supply in watercolour
Keep practicing
Same
This really proves that you don't need fancy art supplies to make godlike artworks.
THISS
Yes! But, for watercolor, you do need some decent paper.
yep^^ im also using kids' watercolor xD since im still practicing

I love using cheap watercolors, I do use them in my moleskine sketchbook because instead of bleeding trough they sit ontop of the paper!
Wow! I've never owned a moleskine sketchbook before. Do you have their watercolor sketchbook or just the normal one?
