This has a very magical feel to it. It’s NOT a simple painting. I can paint a face, that much is easy for me. But getting a background, foreground, and portrait to mesh seamlessly together in a way that looks magical and effortless all at the same time? Well that’s somethings I’m trying to master. I think that you pulled this off beautifully. And btw, using white gouache is NOT cheating. Don’t sell yourself short. The end result speaks volumes of your skill level and using a little gouache does not negate the skill it took to accomplish this. You should be very proud of this. I gasped when I saw the thumbnail because it was so beautiful. I also use limited color palettes with watercolor and find I have the most success when I limit myself to just 3-5 colors per painting.
Oh my goodness! What a compliment. I've been watching your videos for a little while now (I think I'm with the group of people who were brought in by your gouache sketchbook pages) and just love the way you work. I signed up for your Patreon yesterday so I can check out the longer video for this piece. Can't wait to watch it! This piece is just awe inspiring 🥰
Your painting is beautiful and you are quite skilled. It helps me to remember that Sargent was a watercolor MASTER and he used gauche for those sharp highlights
Sennelier's Chinese Orange is one of my all time favorite colors, also their Greenish Umber, which you kind of made with the Payne's Grey and yellow! It came out beautiful! It's inspiring me to repaint the portrait I did of the same girl! I just really loved that photo when I first stumbled across it, although I did the one where she is staring at the camera. It was the fabric tied around her neck, catching her hair, that gave it that something extra for me. Thank you!
Amy 🥺 the greenish umber is GORGEOUS! I wish it dried fully so it wasnt so messy but i completely agree with it being beautiful and the same with the Chinese orange. If you're comfortable with sharing your instagram here,I would love to see your painting! It's such a beautiful photo and i want to see your interpretation too
whoaaaaa the amount of work you put in into one singular piece is incredible i've been making pen sketches for a while after seeing your pen sketches love your work!
i miss your vids 😩 i got really busy because we moved from manila to davao (imagine our struggleee lol) + prelims sa school. well, atleast makakanood na me now ✨✨

You might be surprised at how easy it is to start with watercolors, learning different techniques just come naturally. It's a great medium for experimentation
Maybe what I do might help, I am not so skilled at drawing, so it takes a while and a mess for it to look alright. I try out the sketch in other papers before drawing in watercolor paper. That way I practice and erase as much as I want . When I am happy with it, I sketch in the watercolor paper with a 4h pencil and erase gently with a kneaded eraser. 4h draws very light so it goes away without trouble, and I don't have to worry about damaging the sizing of watercolor paper and it almost doesn't show through after you paint over it
Beautiful art!! But I wonder, what is the difference between using masking fluid or any other white paint or even ink? I never heard of masking fluid before. I guess you wanted to try a piece of JUST watercolor, but even then, there would be the masking fluid as a second medium or not? In my opinion, using mixed media doesn't take away ANY skill from the artist! Either way, keep up the good work!
masking fluid basically repels the paint, and then when you are done you just peel the masking fluid off. It’s useful if you want to block off areas, so it won’t necessarily be white (it’ll just be whatever colour was under it) if that makes sense
Hi Ham Ham, I came across your channel pretty recently, I am curious to see the full video you made for patreons, I am a beginner and new to the platforms- would you be able to help me in accessing the full video? :)

Those flowers look amazing! The amount of detail on her face really contrasted her soft clothes and the thin flowers. Can't wait to watch this 😍😍

random question but how do u make your sketches so neat and clean? If u know what I mean
