- The Wiebe family has specialized over the years in Renault Racing cars in the German Berg-Cup series, and while they are focusing on the new Renault Clio SuperTurismo we have shown on our Channel before, let´s not forget the fantastic Renault Laguna BTCC Monsters they own and we immensely successful with.
One of those units is exactly this one shown here and that Bjorn Wiebe raced once again this year at Osnabruck. Still good enough to place among the Top 5 in the E1-2000 Class, this French Touring Car, for those who don´t know, is a Naturally Aspirated 2.0L FWD Car, capable of 310Hp/8750Rpm, moving little over 900Kg ( lighter in Hillclimb-spec given the regulations allow it) and equipped with one of the very first 7-speed Gearboxes evr fitted to a Race Car outside of Formula 1. And speaking of which, this machine was originally built between Renault Sport and William Engineering, so the F1 connection is quite a big one. And most of all, it is a pleasure to still see such a rare machine still being driven this hard in a Racing setting...
Nothing beats those super tourers from the 90'ies!
We just wish there was a Primera BTCC doing Hillclimb Racing nowadays for us to feature...
@@HillClimbMonsters for me it can be that awesome Peug 406 😍
Alfa Romeo 155 V6 TI!
@@HillClimbMonsters or a legendary Volvo estate touring car
Yes!!!!!!!
Laguna was always the prettiest BTCC, especially the dark green one with gold wheels.
BeyerT1 Our favorite, Toca Race Driver 2 times...
#2. #1 for me is the Texaco Sierra RS500
It looks like the one Russell Spence had. Season BTCC 1999
The precision of this thing, compared to its size, is something else.
Engine is just an icing on the cake.
Agree. No body rolling, behaves completely neutral... what a beast.
N/A was so much better for racing.
The 90s are an Awsome era for race cars... The best in my opinion.
Yeah....it´s not like the TCR cars are anything that spectacular...
For me the 90s were the best, rally, formularacing, supertourers, dtm, motorcycles just about everything!
@@HillClimbMonsters Anything regards to modern Touring cars all sound the same. TCR is just awful both in racing and sound.
I like the 90s with group a and all of that. But the 80s are where it’s at for me
Extreme agreed!
Awesome looking / sounding car.
Nothing better than 90s touring cars.
Laguna, 406, A4, Premiera, Vectra that was great Touring-Motorsport...
95- early 2000s was the best Motorsporttime imo espacially Rally & Touring Championship
RaudiS3 don’t forget the vert fast 155 and 156 Alfa Romeo, speaking of ETCC and DTM
honda accord also..
Toca Touring Car intensifies
Gorgeous induction/cam sound.
Nice to see one of Berg-cup legendary cars in action.Spectacular in every way imaginable.STW cars are really something special.I remember when Croatian aces Branko Krstulović and Robert Bradarić battled in Croatian championship back in the day in their Vectras.
Man,those cars where quite a sight.Just like this one is.
Old race cars are best!!
I really like that simpy design no wings or other things on car.
Can you show us more those cool old race cars?
My family has a sport laguna rn! It's not tuned, it has a little wing, the brakes are taken out, its basically broken down but still can be made into a running car. When I grow up I'll fix it up for sure
how did it go
My 2011 Renault Scenic need this setup
setup cost more than your car ;)
@@neshifuturo oh really. 😮 If you didn't tell me we wouldn't know that.
It needs scrapping
I recall Alain Menu putting a sister car over the fence at Oulton Park, these engines were close to detonation with the compression ratio - a great race engineering era.
Really was, and unofrtunately very hard to ever repeat given how alien NA Touring Cars have become...
That was Russell Spence, I don’t think Alain Menu would thank you for saying that 😆
Le plus beau song moteur!
Les Françaises des années 80-2000
1.6, 1.8, 2.0 atmo juste incroyable
This car legendary 😍
Was that left rear blinker light a touch of french engineering? ;) Love the looks and sound of the car!
I was obsessed with BTCC back in late 90’s and early 00’s. Menu, Rydel, Plato, Thompson & Neal fighting it out very fortnight. I remembered watching it live at oulton park and on the first corner Kelvin Burt Burring it into the barrier and his carbon fibre splitter nearly took our heads off. I offered my mate £50 for it at the time, and he didn’t take it 😂🤣
1:26 this guy has some balls
90s touring car legend
This car was raced by a man named Russel Spence in BTCC in the 90's in this colour scheme actually. He was a privateer.
Right on the money ;)
I remember Alain Menu and Jason Plato dominant in the Yellow and Blue version.
I must have been around 10 years old at the time but I remember it well.
Will Hoy also drove it
Punaise 🔥🔥
Amazing car, sound and gearbox!
Proper Triple Threat :)
@@HillClimbMonsters Yeah!!!!! 🤘
899,95kg because the L of Laguna is missing.
Hahahaha 😑
Maths fail.
Btcc
And Stcc was the most fun racing to watch
From the 90s into around 2008-09
I have my Laguna 2.0 16v. F4R 00/01 in Brazil since 2009. Its a wonderful car , but is Very dificult find pieces and accesories . I Hope to keep in good conditions for many years. I like so much the cars of DTM 90' ... Who can to indicate a good website to me ? Thanks for the vídeo !
The front wheel drive super touring cars had a minimum weight of 975 kgs, yes it`s true...

La laguna du seigneur 👹🤘
Brutal!!!
Best car ever.
Very nice videos , more of these truly oustunning 90' s icons please 🙂
Thanks sante napolitano, we believe there may be more like this coming in the near future ;)
This is 1998 Renault Laguna that was used by RUSSELL SPENCE in 1999 BTCC season, as a private entry in the same paint job.
And from Snetterton onwards that year, ex champ the late Will Hoy raced the car, for the Arena Motorsport team that ran it.
❤
Taxi renault version.
I love the look of the Laguna as well as everything else. Why did they not make a good road going version? By all accounts the standard Lagunas were awful to drive
They were very comfortable to drive, mk1 the most reliable car I had 1996 to 2006 130,000 miles. Once there were thousands about, try to find a good one now.
Like the car, but love how French electrics makes the left blinker light up arbitrarily. Go Renault?!?
that is just WOT indicator....
@@jubitofilm Is that a thing I should know?
@@martingoldfire WideOpenThrottle?
@@jubitofilm I'll have to check that the next time my right foot gets on the heavy side :-P
Alain Menu or Jason Plato driving that?? What a car! Great video
What a sound :D
Loved this era of touring cars but preferred the M3 v Cossie era before it.
Beauty bodykit and sound 😍🤤
Posibly best car nice disign and sound
Nice 👌
my fav car in toca 2 on psx.
Excelente!
Any ideas how fast this era is compared to modern btcc?

Granturismo 2 introduced me to this car
Thats more powerful than a mighty Megane Maxi.
courcheveller 4 throttle bodies as opposed to single throttle body on rally versions of F7R
👍👍👍👍
0:15 la voiture fait le même bruit que la 406 dans taxi !
"equipped with one of the very first 7-speed Gearboxes" AFAIK Ford for the Escort Cosworths had a 7 speed (double H) in the early - mid 90s.
That's why It says "one of the very first" and not "the very first"
Yep, that´s why we said "one of the very first" and not "the very first" ;)
@@HillClimbMonsters Guys guys guys , you got my commend wrong , it was not a correction, i just wanted to mention that the Cossie had it too.
Crispy N/A
I had a laguna, loved that car, even if leaked all of their fluids kkk
Is that the Ex Will Hoy/Russel Spence car?
That's the one, quite a memorable livery, simple but stylish
Elle est pas mal pour partir en vacances en famille...
f7r powah!!!1
hy hillclimb m
don't forget that some factory ford gr a had some 7 speed gearbox in rallye
Yeah, the factory Escort Cosworth Rally Cars used them, that´s why we said in the description "one of the first ever" and not "the first ever" ;)
F7r engine?
RS MÉXICO 👌

ooo merde la c'est du bon
I’ve never seen a Honda like that before
