One of my wife's friends discovered the same thing after COVID started and she was using hand sanitizer every time she got in her car. She thought that the steering wheel was dissolving.... nope. Just the layer of makeup that had accumulated.
Yeah I can’t understand why that happens to other people’s steering wheels, but never mine, even though I usually drive with left elbow on the window sill and hand at 9:00 or 10:00
@@wriddle082 its mostly stuff you put on your hands. Lotion, sanitizers, ect. And basic human oils mixed all together. So you dont really use them much, or dont have sweaty hand syndrome. You likely wouldn't see this. Or at least not for quite a few years.
I'm so glad you chose not completely grating and obnoxious music to go with your deep clean. So many other channels do really satisfying detailing work to the most annoying music humanly possible
If you can deal with GM wiring and the potential for a trans failure (mostly depends on former life) they are without a doubt the best bang for the buck in the Midwest.
My girlfriend had one when we first met. It needed a lot of little things done to it, like the seat adjustment controls falling off (most of the switches didn't work too on the seat control) , washer fluid level indicator on dash was always on. But the biggest thing at the time was getting the drivers door handle to work, it just flipped up and did nothing. Took the door panels off, took apart the door handle all apart, found replacements at a local salvage yard. So I was able to keep the external handle the car color. Just as I was getting all the little interior nagging stuff done, the engine blows the head gasket.. Right after putting brand new tires on that had maybe a few hundred miles on them.. It drove fantastic, was super comfortable, had all kinds of room and the trunk was huge. I was sorry to see it go, the one thing I wanted to eventually get fixed was the drivers side heated seat.
A good clean is usually the first thing I do. Easier to evaluate and fix stuff when it isn't nasty. Bought an '06 Sequoia 6 months ago that was owned by a mother with kids; I cleaned out so many fries, hair beads, spilled Coke, etc. Great interior under all the filth.
Nice to see Alec did a good job on it. If you still have the wash products I recommended to you via FB like a year ago, they would be good for you and Alec to use to get the exterior cleaned up nicely. Give us a shout if you need any assistance with the exterior wash, decon, correction, and coating. I remember probably 2 years ago detailing his Impreza in your garage. Small world, time flies. Enjoy the fresh results of his hard work.
It's good to see the Buick get a much needed cleaning!!! The music is very soothing, I thought I was in the Commerce Bank of Beverly Hills waiting to see Mr Drysdale!!! 🥴
I love those older Buicks! Theyre so comfortable and ride so smooth. You can drive for several hours across states and not hurt at all. Like sitting in your recliner at home.
I'll go through and take all the easy to grab at panels and cup holders and trim pieces off and run them through a dishwasher while you clean everything else. Comes out great.
Cool to see the old girl getting some love! I used one of those heaters for years with no problems. In my new garage I installed a ac and heat unit that looks like a window ac. Works like a champ.
Man... that is just one of the best feelings when you get an old car with a neglected interior looking new again. Great job. Heh - love the giant puddle of filth that was left over afterwards.
@1:04 - all of these are prone to the speaker grilles getting kicked in. You can pop them out, but they are already weakened and will deform again the next time you look at them wrong. Looks good. I need some of that 808 Aerospace Protectant. :p
Yes - a genuine "triple" detail where seats and some other parts are removed is the best way. I retired from a 30 year career in the car business and it is amazing what a thorough detail can do for a car. Sometimes on the baby formula stained carpets we installed new carpeting! I still smile remembering the used car customers complimenting the previous owner for taking such good care of their car when I knew the truth was it came in as a pigsty. Do you have small steam cleaner? - they do wonders with underhood detail and badly stained upholstery and carpet.

Great job cleaning the old Buick. Lovely to see how nicely it turned out. I have to do this on my old 400,000 mile Volvo. It was Ma's for the first 25½ years, and mine, including 3 years doing security, for the last 5½. I am going to take it in to be done. 31 years of dirt will take some cleaning.

Here in Sweden there on quite a few houses and garages. 😁

Meguiars interior detail spray. Its nothing fancy and I plan to upgrade to something like their d10101 APC. Since its stronger and gets the doors and dash much cleaner than the interioe detailer does.
