  • Orange is one of summer 2016's new anime series. After watching the first 2 episodes I look into it's more subtle elements. Looking into how directing, editing and art choices were used to create an underlying sense of suspense.

this anime started giving me anxiety since I read its description and it's so beautiful ... yet the ending song still haunts me and makes me cry every time

i'm so glad that finally someone is noticing Orange. I'm done with people saying that is a shitty anime or whatever. For me, is a masterpiece.

they should make the ending on another world that naho and kakeru married and they have children, and go to the hill like the other world 10 years later but with kakeru still exist.

The editor litteraly plays with us, in the last episode, while they were looking for kakeru, there was a scene on suwa, with the flash of a car on his face and with the sound, i thought suwa would have died in a car accident, but then they showed the entire scene and he was just on the pavement, they do that a lot of time. So you litteraly CANT predict what can happen and I LOVE THAT

Great way to better understand depression and suicide and how one can see signs and help others.

I think the only time I didn’t like Naho was on the New Year’s Eve episode where she read the letter and found out that she and Kakeru got into a fight because of what she said to him, but yet she still did the SAME thing and ended up hurting him by what she said and didn’t even apologize right there or right away like her future self told her to do. Like how hard was it to not say the same things that caused the fight between them like her future self told her in the letter?! I still get annoyed by this but other than that I don’t hate her.

It blows my mind that the main criticism I see levied against this show is that "it's stupid that Naho doesn't read the whole letter at once". First off, this is a pretty shallow and meaningless criticism and isn't something that's to hard to suspend your disbelief for, but more importantly it's not even true. Naho does read the whole thing at once but is only revealed to the viewer as parts become relevant. Never in the show does it imply that Naho doesn't read the whole thing all at once, and I hadn't even thought of it until others claimed that as their main grievance.

I loved this anime bc it's so similar so my life. I can see situations I've gone through in every single one of these characters and seeing that they feel the same way as me kinda gives me comfort. I just can't get over how amazing it is >.<

This anime made me tear up almost every episode. Which doesn’t happen to me ever since I started anime. And also started to make me realize what I have is a mild level of depression as the actions of my daily life kind of resembles Kakeru. Especially the episode when the narrative stand point is from Kakeru’s point of view. It hit so hard I can’t even breath after watching it. All in all. Still an amazing anime. And I should get help.

This anime has really great directing. My favorite scene would probably be the scene of the 2 bubbles. One of the bubbles pop while the other bubble is moving forward (The other bubble is most likely representing Kakeru).

I'm really liking this show so far as a manga reader, and I'm even more so glad to have stumbled upon this video. The direction is beautiful, and your explanation just brings more depth to the experience.

it made me come to terms with my own poor responses to suicide. a cousin of mine attempted suicide a few years back and well i had a very poor response. as much as a i hate naho, i can't say that i'm much better because back when this really came up in my life, i found it difficult to talk about it because i didn't want to make the wrong decision but i quickly realized that no action can be just as damaging if not more damaging than action. by worrying about making a mistake or using the wrong words i ended up doing nothing when that was probably an even worse response than trying and messing up. this show has good lessons even if one makes naho into an idiot who is easily hated. i was frustrated with naho too but i couldn't fault her much because i can understand how hard these decisions can seem and how she just doesn't want to make the wrong choice. i can understand how shell-shocking these things can be. Before my cousin's attempt, i had no idea he had such thoughts but after carefully reviewing my childhood with him i realized there were many red flags. i just didn't notice. luckily, my cousin was with his psychiatrist at the time. today, he's not much better though he hasn't attempted since so that's one good thing. i just remember feeling so horrible because all i was asked to do was hang out with him. i wouldn't have had a problem with it, it's just i was stupid teenager, we were years apart, and we hadn't seen each other in years so it became very easy to get wrapped up in my own life. now, i try to stay in touch with all my family members on my late father's side.

Imagine if everyone on the show received a letter from their future selves like Naho, and the reason why some unexpected changes are happening that she doesn't know about is because everyone is trying to change the future in their own way to try and save Kakeru.
