Governor Udom Emmanuel has commissioned the new Nigerian Navy Military School (NNMS) at Ikot Ntuen, Oruk Anam Local Government Area with a pledge that his administration will always strive to promote education in Akwa Ibom State.
Gov Emmanuel who was special guest, commended the Navy for the interest to partner the state on a naval secondary school project, saying that he was prepared to make sacrifices for anything that has to do with development in the state.
The Governor who appreciated the serene and loveable atmosphere in the school, said the standards were akin to tertiary institutions elsewhere.
“Let me also thank the navy because we did not do it alone. We had to partner in one way or the other in order to make this day great.
Mr Emmanuel who has also remodeled and donated another school facility the Nigerian Army, said “with this one and the Army School in Efa which will soon be commissioned, I think we have completed the cycle.”
“The Police Force and Air Force have Command Secondary Schools here which are recorded as one of the best in Africa, and Nigerian Army is setting up. With what I’m seeing today in these students who are barely six weeks in the school, we have a future in this country. I’m sure we are in for another best in Africa.”
He charged members of the community for maximum corporation with the school describing it as an asset that they need to protect and promised to continue supporting the development of the school.
Earlier, the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Ibok-ette Ekwe Ibas, in his welcome address expressed gratitude to the Governor for the long standing relationship between the Nigerian Navy and the State government that made for the auspicious occasion of the commissioning of the Nigerian Navy Military School (NNMS) in Akwa Ibom State.
He acknowledged that the Navy was able to undertake all this because of the tremendous support it receives from government and people of state.
“The quest for the state to saddle its security apparatus had fortunately met the yearning desire of the state government to broaden the presence of the service in the state such that it readily consented to release the premises for the establishment of the naval education cum training institution.”
“Despite the fact that the process was fully consummated late last year, the opening of this school to business has been accelerated because the government of Mr Udom Emmanuel went further beyond opening the premises, to complement in the accreditation of many of the units here and provision of requisite infrastructure.”
According to him, the institution is modeled to offer secondary education in a naval incubatory environment, which would be a centre of educational excellence with a go-way for the young stars and their counterparts across the length and breadth of the country to gain a foretaste of naval profession and possibly consider a career in the service ultimately.
Chairman, Senate Committee on Senate, Sen. Isa Haman Misau, in is goodwill message, commended Gov Emmanuel for his superlative leadership quality and several developmental projects across the state.
The naval college project, which was executed through the partnership between the state Governor and the Nigerian Navy, is commencing its academic programme with over 60 students in the Junior Secondary School first year.

Iboro Ekanem; House Leader, Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Hon. Udoh Kerian; Chairman, Senate Committee on Navy, Sen. Haman Misau; Chairman, House Committee on Navy, Hon. Dasuki; royal fathers, among others.
