On August 25th 1989, a passenger plane belonging to Pakistan International Airlines departed from the Northern Town of Gilgit. Less than ten minutes later, it disappeared never to be seen again.
No wreckage has ever been found and presumably all 54 people on board the aircraft were killed.

Wouldn't the largest pieces also include the engines?
definitely found it interesting as im British Pakistani
Error: Flight 404 not found.
🤦♂️
I know I shouldn't laugh but being the first comment in recommendation, I couldn't help
Take my like already dammit...

I'd just like to say that, one year after making this comment, I am not proud of it myself either. ^^;
I'm glad I wasn't the only one thinking it
This really helps pass time. Makes me never want to fly again, well time to catch my flight.

Hey...does this plane's engine sound funny to you?
This is one of the best flight crash channels online. I have autism and am hyperfixated on them. These videos make everything so easily understandabld
Thanks. I am thrilled you enjoy the content
I think this is because this is based on facts without the sensationalism of the human aspect. That's what I like about this channel over others that are twice as long. I prefere knowing what went wrong without hearing from the people of family affected from a scientific standing.
Can confirm -- I too have autism and am similarly gripped by content like this.
For a while I figured it was rather macabre to derive any amount of enjoyment from things like this; but the mechanics behind the crashes, the disappearances, and other involuntary departures from predetermined trajectories; not to mention the human factors exacerbated by them -- is just too intriguing for me to ignore.
I love this content to but am not autistic but considering your comments I must have autism
Same! I quite enjoy the calm nature of these videos. Too much drama spoils the story, and DB definitely has found a good balance!
I find it remarkable that the plane has never been found on terrain: I can understand a plane lost in the vast oceans, but on terra firma, even in remote mountains it seems crazy.
It’s possible that some local people found the wreckage at some point, but it just never got reported to authorities. It’s a pretty wild and remote area.
A L I E N S
😉
I guess you could say it was...
404: Not Found (badum tss)
If an aircraft impacts fast enough in the right angle, there is not much to see in terms of wreckage. A shallow crater with very small pieces of debris is all you can find.
If the terrain is mountainous or a forest, it can be almost impossible to spot the point of impact from the air.
Many planes have gone missing and have never been found that way.
@@stscc01 Easy to lose a plane in an ocean? Very true. On terra firma? Much easier to locate if the resources are available. Let's be honest, depends on the country of origin.
I can hear the conversation.."Can you spot Flight 404?" "No, that Fokker isn't on my radar".
lol
Lol omg
ROFLMAO 🤣 🤣😂😂
Did you know Fokker literally means breeder in Dutch
@@RB19slefttire well, I'll be Fokked!
Damn. Imagine being demoted from a 742 to a F27.
Yeah, that's actually the reason why I think Pilot suicide may have been a possibility. But as I am from India, and know how the general public and the politicians of India and Pakistan are around the topic, the "India shot down the plane" conspiracy would be much more prevalent than something more logical.
Please note it was not a demotion for him.On the contrary , he was on promotion here.....from being a Co - Pilot on 747 and now as a Captain on F - 27.....
@@annabethchase2569 The incident mentioned was PIA flight 300, registered as AP-AYW on February 4, 1986 at Islamabad Airport, over three years prior to the disappearance of flight 404.
I'd love to hear more about the captain's flight incident on the 747.
What happened
5:00 From what was said in the video, it sounded like the captain of this flight that disappeared also had an incident previously on a 747. Apparently, he failed to lower the landing gear prior to touchdown. I don't know much more than that.
oh Yes i know this accident
the plane actually made a belly landing after the pilots for got to lower gear. The aircraft managed to land and was repaired soon. all survived
I think PIA has a history of landing without landing gear. Even a recent one. I think they should have "is the landing gear down?" Painted on the walls of the cockpit.
I remember that there was a PIA A320 that met with disaster in May 2020 after the pilots neglected to put down the landing gear, causing major engine damage after scraping the runway. PIA 8303 was the flight.
Your channel is going to grow wildly soon. You're a lot better than most doing it (in terms of voice, info, and general production quality).
Thank you for your kind comment
Lmao in reference to flying into a mountain -
“it’s not something pilots normally do”
Hahaha yeah I sure hope not
I highly doubt the shootdown theory, it's too far of a distance for that plane to travel in that time and remain undetected and out of radio contact.
However, I find the most likely theory to be that it went off course due to pilot error and crashed in an area, probably an area so unlikely that nobody thought to check there.
Spatial Disorientation leadint fo flying high and off course, it likely hit a peak or somewhere at or around a very high altitude.
I think if it was shot down there would have been political conflict. As if the Pakistani government would have kept quiet about India shooting down a civilian aircraft.
There is no way they can fly to Indian airspace from gilgit on a the Fokker 27 with limited amount of fuel.
I've been binging this channel for a couple of weeks, which is weird because I have anxiety when it comes to riding airplanes. But your objective, easy-to-understand explanations (even for me who doesn't know anything about planes!), the laying out of facts without too much drama, and the clear narration is almost cathartic and actually make me feel less anxious about riding planes. Maybe because I am learning about how these things work and what can go wrong with them (and how often that happens). So thank you so much for making and regularly updating this channel! I'm patiently waiting for more 'disaster averted' ones, though ^^;;
You’re simply amazing! Churning out videos no matter what’s going on in your personal life. This is quite the mystery…thanks for a great video about this flight.
Thank you so much!
i've been fixated on mh370 for so many years no (i remember watching it all unfold) and i never thought that there would be ANOTHER, earlier instance of a plan just vanishing. thank you for another great video! i always look forward to your uploads! :)
I imagine there have been quite a few, in the days when a search simply wasn’t practical because the technology it would have needed to even think about searching just wasn’t there. After all, how many years did it take to find the Titanic? Also the expense - not every country could afford to spend millions of pounds/dollars/euros etc trying to find a plane, which in any case would no doubt be smaller than MH370. There’s also a plane that’s disappeared and nobody knows if it even crashed or not and if it did, whether it’s in the sea or on land. That’s an interesting story. I’m sorry, I should be giving links to these, but I can’t remember enough about the videos to look without spending hours.
Amelia Earhart's plane, one of the most known stories about aviation
Mh370 was found. It was the plane at the mh17 crash site. But mh17 is the real missing plane. It sounds crazy. But I really can't explain it all here. Dig and you shall find. There's a video of the crash site uncensored and most are adult and Asian. Mh17 was half child and almost no Asians. The planes were almost identical. There's a lot more too. The lady that filmed the crash site(a researcher) said it smelled like chemicals used to keep bodies from decomposing.
@@willemgijs3803 It does sound crazy because it is crazy.
Myles Power has a good take-down of the various conspiracy tales surrounding MH370, including a debunking of the MH370/MH17 claim: ruclips.net/video/goOLDkiQ9XU/видео.html
If a pilot proves himself to be unworthy of his position; landing a 747 with the gear up, don't be surprised if he makes another brilliant move at some point
Flight 404 .... flight not found ....
👏
This person was the first to make this joke
Sorry I couldn't control myself
Plane.exe crashed
Legend has it Flight 418 turned into a teapot
Love the content, really thorough and well written and explained. Also off topic here but a missing plane having flight number 404 is hilarious to me.
Maybe the origins of Error 404 started from this flight... We'll never find pit
When it come to Planes tragedy, 727 are the top victims..
Great video sir! Look forward to more .I'll probably go back and binge watch your channel today it's a rainy day here .have a safe weekend!
Keep up the amazing work mate!!!
This explains why the internet now uses 404 not found, pretty cool
Another great breakdown. You deserve way more subscribers given the quality of the content you put out
I love all these videos, Chloe! Keep it up! And if you are taking suggestions, I think the Uruguayan Air Force Flight 571 crash might be an interesting video to tackle.
Thank you!
That is an incident I do want to cover. Of course the incredible tale of Human Survival is what is most known about it. And while there already exists plenty videos on that aspect of it, I think I could make a video on how the plane actually crashed.
Great show bud. Thanks for your content.
Love the channel and another great video, thanks Chloe
I can’t stop watching this stuff, so informative.
It's like Louie Anderson said, "Well, we'll either get there....or we won't."
If we don’t, then we probably suffer a horrifying death.
I love your videos! I really miss the ambient background music from the earlier videos.
Obligatory "404 - Plane Not Found"
Hope your move went well! Thank you for your videos.
I'm from Gilgit and I remember the stories from my father that this plane took off and was never to be seen again. Some of my father's friends were in this plane.
My condolences to your father, hope they’ll be resting in peace now.
Love this channel!
Thank you!
This channel is under appreciated
Great video once again!
Always like before watching,as I know its going to be good x
Error 404, flight not found
A very grammatically and well presented video.
I enjoy the narration. 👍😊
Amazed you didn`t mention `Stardust` the Avro Lancastrian that disappeared in the Andes, only to be located decades later. I`d never heard of this PIA event, however, given the awful performance of the Sub Continent`s `Pilots`, this vanishing is not so surprising. Please keep covering such little known accidents which have (hopefully) improved Airline/Airport/Pilot safety standards
Maybe it's just me, but I don't think I'll ever get on a flight numbered "404".
Thank you, subscribed.
What I like most about your channel is it's based on facts. Don't get me wrong .. the lose of human life is tragic BUT .. your videos are not sensationalized off the lose of life and focus more on what brought these planes down which from a scientific viewpoint intrest me more.
If it did hit the side of a mountain looking for recognizable plane sections probably won't help. The sudden impact into a steep slope would completely disintegrate the entire plane. Just look at the Germanwings crash, nothing but debris on a side of a slope.
maybe that caused an avalanched and buried it.
This dude is the best.
I appreciate how you encourage us to come to our own conclusions when it comes to conspiracy and controversy ❤️
I've never heard of anyone claiming PK404 was shot down until today.
there are speculations that the aircraft veered its course and went into Indian airspace and was shot down but there is no proof of that.
There are possibilities
This was spooky. By the way, can you please link where you get all of your music from?
Hi thanks for the comment. I get 95% of my music from Epidemic Sound. I pay a license to use the tracks. The other pieces of background music are a mix of things I composed myself or other Creative Commons tracks.
This is really cool
Another great video keep up the great work
Thanks!
Is it weird that I just happened to start watching this video at 4:04 PM
yes
Error 404: Plane not found
I recently went to Pakistan and visited Gilgit in Pakistan. I flew in the same style plane ! Man that airport is sketch and the runway is in between the mountains. If I had watched this prior to visiting Pakistan I would of never went to Gilgit ! I drove going there and it was over a 20 hour drive !
Was it an ATR-42 you were flying with?
@@spongebubatz yes ATR is mostly used to travel to gilgit. Gilgit airport can also accomodate Lockheed C-130
Nice video, very sad. I flew with PIA...interesting place to fly.
I love this channel
I read somewhere a theory that it was hijacked...im not familiar w the politics of the region so im not adding to something that could be wrong...i figured i just mentioned it as i noticed it wasn't in the vid...Great work on these!
Big fall from Boeing 747 captain to F'er captain. The mind boggles! As an aside, the HS748 would have been a much better choice of aircraft for PIA than the F'er given the mountainous terrain in Pakistan.
its so much beter. thank you for uploading it DS. love your videos. i tink the plane was bombed or it could be an IFF(in flight fire) or pilot suicide. that are the only tings i could come up whit. hope it helps.
Dude you look like you will get arrested in 10 years for touching kids
@@soko45 what makes you that tink? Im 14.
I honestly think some sort of decompression happened. Some major emergency that the pilots had no time to call ATC about
I think honestly Maybe it was aliens.
The only problem is the fact that they were under 14,000 feet. And the plane wouldn’t of just gone off radar. It would of flown on autopilot until running out of fuel.
@@CupwakeRBLX u rite
I hope flying into mountains isn't something pilots normally do
Amazing how such a huge vehicle with radio communication can just disappear.
This is not a matter of joke but isn't it kind of ironic that 404 disappeared?
CFIT, simplest solution.
Hit a mountain, never found.
Hit remote mountain, all died on impact, possible avalanche burying wreckage or just snow/ice accumulation over a longer period.
@@kvltizt The most logical answer, next most logical to me is pilot suicide.
@@kvltizt like BSAA Star Dust in 1947, an engine appeared in 1998
I wish the plane is found as soon as possible 🙏🙏
I think that British plane broke apart due to minor cracks around the windows frames due to many cabin pressure cycles the plane was tested in a large water tank not turbulence.
That was the case for the string of Comet crashes, not the particular crash referenced in the video. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BOAC_Flight_911
if you go on google earth and put in the co-ordinates 35° 14′ 12.87″ N, 74° 35′ 24.22″ E , you go to your left and there is something that looks like a rusty fuselage and green PIA tail plane
I don't see anything
@@fastfaps Me neither. Likely bait.
Did anybody else make the connection between the flight number and the error number appearing on a computer screen when the website you’re trying to visit can’t be found ? They got the 404 error, so sad
Pakistan Airline has massively improved safety after 2000. EMIRATES AIRLINE was established by Pakistan Airlines in late nineties and early 2000s.
You got a lot wrong. First, it was created in the 1980s. And it was actually created by the royal family of Dubai. Pakistan provided assistance and leased two airliners to them, but the family also got two 727s themselves. So it's been established and run by one of the six ruling families of UAE.
So... it'd be like if England didn't have an airline and the Queen decided to create one with her money, and France gave them some help, and leased (for money) two of their own airliners to them. And then the Queen added two more and the airline began.
And PIA has been banned from flying to the US or Europe (or the airspace) for some time now. A quarter of all Pakistan's pilots had fake licenses - out of 860 pilots in Pakistan, 262 had fake ones. And many of the pilots (real or not) were PIA pilots.

Mountains can be so breath taking and beautiful. But also very unforgiving. This sounds like one of those events which will never be solved, unfortunately.
A RUclipsr suspected that he found the wreckage of PIA Flight 404 on Google Maps. A redditor said that he used a different satellite imagery software and saw what appeared to be really a plane on the same site.
