There's a reason JP is the maitre d'! He knows what he is doing and is very good at his job. He has been working with Gordon since he was 19/20. As far as I am concerned, JP is second in command of the restaurant (except for the kitchen where that would be the sous chef).

I know it's been said but holy moly Heather is an absolute champ for handling a very painful burn while still helping her team, even as she was told it was serious she was thinking about her team and how they'll do. Jean-Philippe feels like Gordon Ramsay but in costumer service, commanding the dining space, not putting up with BS, all with an air of friendliness for the customers. It's pretty cool seeing everyone in their element, even when something completely sudden like a chef seriously burning her hand, or a quarrel between staff, they don't let that slow them. Same thing with JP distracting that massive table so the kitchen had more time
(Edit) Some people pointed out how when Gordon Ramsay yelled for ice it was code for 'call for EMts' so the customers wouldn't freak out

@Schnipps Me too, grabbed a 500 degree sheet tray to move it out of my way without a towel thinking it was cool. Nope lol. Still missing some feeling in my hand and it's been almost a year.
I once was burned cleaning a flat top grill. I was in a rush and stupidly nailed the backsplash with the scrubber. So i got hot grease and cleaning chemicals covering half the back of my right hand and my ring and pinky finger. Thankfully i wiped my hand off along with a few layers of skin before running to the sink. The result? Second degree burns instead of third and three extremely painful months working in the kitchen.

Gordon was trying to teach them to settle their problems in a civilized manner in front of customers. It was more like role play, because they weren't in front of customers but in one of the very back rooms of the kitchen. He just needed them to act like they're always in front of customers when they have to sort out interpersonal issues.

Jean Phillipe has been with Ramsay since his early days at restaurant aubergine in the 1990s. Imagine the dedication it takes to work for someone like Gordon Ramsay for all those years.
Gordon is passionate but he has always been good to hardworking and dedicated employees. He does a lot of work for the culinary world like spreading awareness of addictions. Plus the yelling is played up to a degree for TV. JP is smart and good at his job, they probably have a good working relationship and friendship.

In a restaurant, the Maître d'hôtel's job is the second hardest job next to the chef. They're terrifying folks because their training is intense.
@@MrNeosantana It's a 6 in one, half dozen in the other. The FOH has to schmooze and charm (i.e. stall) very often, and the stuff the chef says at the cooks, the guests say at the FOH. But the FOH can't ever lose their head. They don't get to tell someone to f*ck off, and take the flack from both sides. But the bottom line is when the tickets get remade, the cost analyzed, the BOH is the one who gets the talking to. It's a very complicated partnership.

The training for it is grueling, and you have to remember literally everything. A good maître d'hôtel is sometimes paid significantly more than the hotel manager, with good reason.

It's the calmest ones that explode the biggest. Also I find it crazy that there's no comments saying Gordon was harsh on JP in the last bit. He tried calmly talking to Van (in order to help him, even), but gets pissed when Van jeopardizes the safety of other people by running in the restaurant and still doesn't listen to him. I think he has every right to be pissed at that point, if he had Gordon's personality he would've lost it when Van insisted on serving the wrong table.

If Gordon wasn’t up to his eyes in head-cheferry and actually knew what van was doing I’m sure he’d understand why JP was mad.

It's rare to see Jean-Philippe get angry with some one. When working in Hell's Kitchen Gordon Ramsay's word is law, when he has you work the tables with the waiters, Jean-Philippe is in charge because he's the Maître d'hôtel and you're under his authority at that point.

People literally try to tell me “these shows are just him screaming in people’s faces and talking down to them, no one should be treated like that, you can’t talk to another human being like that. Nah dude, this is him trying to put reasoning into their heads, they are smart people but he needs them to learn from their mistakes, not only on Hell’s Kitchen but Kitchen nightmares where yeah, he’s gonna critique the food, but he WANTS to help the crew be successful. He’s not just there to be an awful person. I even showed this guy the video of Gordon meeting his 12 year old fan who had leukemia and made her day, as well as donating the remaining 10k to her treatment.
@@xplatypus516 to add to that. These are all experienced chefs who should know how to cook, MasterChef not as much, so he doesn't get as angry, but in this show he gets more angry because all of them are experienced chefs
