The maître d'hôtel is in charge of front-of-house, which is where Van was at the time. When in FOH you take your orders from the maître d', not the chef. The chef is in charge of back of house, i.e. the kitchens and food stores, but in this case he also had jurisdiction over JP. Typically Facilities will take care of non-food areas like electrical, but in smaller restaurants the chef might have responsibility.
The fact Melinda didn't even say anything in confenssional room really showed that she's been in her own world, she had no idea what planet she was on

I'm not on Gordon's side on that one. JP is the front of house, thats his area.. GR had no right to step in it when Van was outta line unless he was gonna back JP up.
gordon is the boss of the kitchen, he is responsible for safety and product coming out. JP is boss of the dining room as head waiter, he is responsible for the safety and professionalism of all staff on his floor. Not only does it look low class and undignified running in the dining room. dude was running around with pans and shit making a mess on top of being a hazard to customers by running around. It's very unprofessional to be running in the dining room.
The scene just shows how much power Gordon Ramsey really holds

JP might be correct, but he was still raising his voice in front of customers. He was also the only one raising his voice. He was still in the wrong and deserved a bit of a talking to.

Have you seen the full episode? While JP’s concerns are noteworthy, his reaction to yell at the chef in front of the customers was incorrect and I’ve reacted.
And before you say Gordon yells in front of customers at the chefs, that is the entire point of the show, in the same light as a Drill Sergeant to new recruits.
JP’s job is to the dinning area and not the kitchen, he overreacted. And definitely isn’t the better man for that ladies first comment.

Second, I don’t care that JP’s place is in the dining room. Both overreacted, but the guy should’ve gotten a lot more flak for how he treated JP. You don’t aggravate your superior like that. I feel personally like he was justified in this instance with the snide remark.
Lastly: I don’t give a shit about episodic context. I’m going off of what we see in the clips.
