  • Join us for days 3 & 4 of our passage across the Great Australian Bight where Mirrool hits a new record for her daily mileage. We also have a minor mishap, deal with an overwhelmed auto helm, hand steer downwind in 30+ knots in the middle of the night, get busy in a rock and roll galley and, to top it all off, arrive at a remote island in uncharted waters.

Your home yacht club should give you guys a cruising award for that passage and I hope somebody nominates you. Specially enjoyed the downwind footage in 30 knots. The following seas always look much smaller on a video than they actually are. Troy hand steering and trying not to look behind him - classic.

Simply Beautiful Pascale and Troy. Brings back so many memories for me of Bass Strait and the Southern Ocean. Now just lake sailing in Texas but in 5 - 10 we hope to back on the Ocean.
Simply nothing better (other than the rolling) than taking the tiller with some decent wind and swell. Can't help but go for the surf. Didn't notice you wiggle the tiller at all. An old racing technique is to give the tiller a few hard wiggles to detach flow from the rudder and reduce drag, just as the stern picks up, enough to get that bit extra of speed to promote planing. All the best. My favourite sailing couple!
