An excellent tutorial to show how we can still have nice locos on a layout even when our finances are stretched! Recycle, rebuild and refurbish old rolling stock! Its the future of the hobby in difficult financial times when the producers are charging completely unaffordable prices! Im a new fan of Dan!
That's great Paul. One published addition which I have done is to make the tiny headlamp on top of bonnet work, by part drilling up from inside with small bit, then meeting that hole by part drilling from front. An led glued under shines enough light through the L shaped hole. Like the jack shaft mods.
Hi Paul, the pitting is due to Mazac rust, i think it is a chemical reaction sometimes leaving a whitish powder, to paint it use an etch primer, this will help to stop the paint chipping
It may not be the paint that has caused corrosion of the running plate. If it is made of Mazak, it could be zinc pest, also known as Mazak rot, caused by lead impurities in the metal. It can also be caused by high humidity.

Excellent looking makeover, I really do love the slow running speed it has now! How's about some flush glazing and headlights painted next? Haha
As a car restorer/ painter any bare metal surfaces need etch primer before any other paint or primer is applied, just do you know,
