      Hi there! I recently purchased this rtf jet as a first plane - I am currently learning to fly it on the realflight trainer (which was not included with my jet, nor was an instruction manual? Thankfully the instructions were online. Purchased the dongle and software in addition ..) That said, I am practicing with the 3s battery in the sim as that's what I have for my plane - what my question is... In the sim I am able to get some pretty cool high alpha maneuvers with everything set to realistic. Is high alpha flight possible on this jet with the 3s battery? Also in the sim I often kill the engine and glide and it never stalls. Is this the safe system or can I expect a different reaction in the actual sky?

    Just ordered mine as my first RC plane. I was waiting for something like this. A bit more money than I thought I would spend (with extra 3S and 4S batteries, charger, and LAS) but it doesn't look like a beginner plane that will be put back in box after buying another plane later. I have been considering a Timber as a second plane. I hope I am right in assuming I will be able to use the batteries and receiver with a Timber. Also, it didn't give an estimated delivery date. Any idea when they will be shipping?

    • @HorizonHobbyProducts
      @HorizonHobbyProducts  4 года назад +2

      Hello Kurt! Thank you for your order and support, and welcome to the hobby!! Habu STS models will begin shipping in the US around 8/14/2020 (the LAS is currently out of stock/backordered, but hopefully those will also arrive around the same). As soon as you receive yours, make sure you download and activate the RealFlight Trainer Edition RC Flight Simulator using the instructions and Steam code in the box! Then you can practice flying the Habu STS (there are 4 variants in the sim...3S powered, 4S powered, plus 3S and 4S powered with the LAS!) on a PC desktop or laptop, AND there's also an entire series of Virtual Flight Instructor (VFI) lessons for the Habu specifically in the sim for you to watch/follow and learn from.
      The DXS transmitter included with the Habu STS RTF will work for all of the BNF Basic version E-flite Timber models (the UMX and the 1.2m to 1.5m models!). However, you can only use it with one model at a time. That means you will have to re-bind and adjust the trims if you try to use it for the Habu and Timber back and forth. A transmitter with multiple model memory, like the Spektrum DX6e, DX8e, DX6, DX8, etc. will make using one transmitter for multiple models more practical. The 3S 4000mAh 30C batteries will definitely work in the Turbo Timber 1.5m and Timber X 1.2m models, but the 4S 4000mah 30C batteries may not fit due to their added thickness (but you may be able to carefully remove some foam material in the battery bay to make them fit!).
      Also, although it's equipped with SAFE and you have the RealFlight Trainer Edition simulator to help, there is no substitute for having the support, guidance and help of an instructor. Yes, you can potentially learn to fly the Habu STS on your own using SAFE, but you are more likely to succeed, to learn to fly faster, and to become a better pilot more quickly, if you have an instructor to help you! So please be sure to look for RC flying clubs and instructors in your area if you haven't already. You can also check out our Horizon Hobby Flight School page/program: www.horizonhobby.com/flight-school.html#:~:text=Becoming%20a%20Horizon%20Hobby%20Flight,help%20and%20confidence%2Dbuilding%20support!

    I really dislike grass, ate my first jet, too fast, always tumbling. Second jet, on concrete, semi flawless takeoff and landing! Now I take off and land, more than just flying around...the dreaded bounce landing still creeps in, but tarmac is more forgiving. Haven't gone "yard sale" in years.

  • @mgharvey3657
    @mgharvey3657 4 года назад

    I got this rtf. Being first jet, I crashed and still continue to crash it almost every time out. It is a trainer and that's what I use it as. I have zapped it so many times. Frankenplane. Crash it, zap it... wash, rinse and repeat. Only thing is flight time. Would recommend getting a few batteries with it. All in all it is fun to fly.

  • @BillKisel
    @BillKisel 4 года назад +1

    Looks like a really nice offering. I'm betting it'll be a big hit.
    Now here's my pitch... wish you'd put STS into something like the UMX Turbo Timber and sell it RTF. This would be for folks that don't have club flying fields; folks that fly in their open yards or nearby parks, playing fields and other open areas. [You guys really need to offer the UMX Turbo Timber in RTF.]

    • @HorizonHobbyProducts
      @HorizonHobbyProducts  4 года назад

      Yes! If you use the DX8 with the RTF version Habu STS you will just need to assign one of the 3-position switches (we typically recommend/use the "B" switch) to the "gear" channel (channel 5). Then you will have the Beginner, Intermediate and Experienced modes on that switch! Or, if you don't assign the gear channel to a 3-position switch, by default it will be on the 2-position "A" switch which will give you the Beginner and Experienced (no Intermediate) modes.

    Would this plane or the Aeroscout 1.1 be a better choice for someone who's never flown?

    • @HorizonHobbyProducts
      @HorizonHobbyProducts  3 года назад +1

      Both are perfect first airplanes for anyone who has never flown! That said, if you're learning to fly on your own and without any help, the AeroScout would be the better choice. If you have access to an experienced instructor to help you though, the Habu is a great choice too! And either way, be sure to purchase and use RealFlight Trainer Edition or RealFlight 9.5 RC Flight Simulator (both the Habu STS and AeroScout 1.1m are on both versions of that sim!).

From the Spektrum DXS 2.4GHz transmitter you can use with other Bind-N-Fly® (BNF) and BNF Basic aircraft after you learn to fly the Habu STS, to the 3S 4000mAh Smart LiPo battery and a convenient S120 USB-C Smart charger that can be used with a variety of USB power sources, there's nothing extra you need to buy or provide! Bad decision not to offer a BNF

    • @HorizonHobbyProducts
      @HorizonHobbyProducts  4 года назад +1

      As noted in response to other comments/questions regarding a BNF Basic version:
      No BNF Basic option for this one due to the added cost associated with the flight controller (which includes a barometer that offers the "invisible floor" functionality, makes upgrading to the LAS and other functions possible) and serial receiver included in the RTF version. Those cost more than an AR636 or AR637T receiver, and would have made the price for a BNF Basic version about $60 more than the PNP version.
      That said, we do plan on providing an AR636 model file that includes AS3X and SAFE Select tuned for the Habu STS so anyone who has a spare 636 and would like to install it in the PNP version can (that will hopefully be ready in about 2 weeks when these begin shipping). We may also offer a Habu STS setup for the AR637T, but the 636 is our priority for now since so many people already have those receivers on hand.
