@@HobbyView It's a real IC3 connector...just without the (optional-use) third wire :) We're already phasing out EC3 (EC5) connectors and will only install IC3 (IC5) connectors, even on products that don't have the third/Smart wire, in the future (because the IC connectors are MUCH easier for factories, and users, to install...plus they're easier to grip to connect/disconnect AND are directly compatible with EC connectors!)
@@HorizonHobbyProducts , Ah that explains it. My snarky comments aside, I really was unsure what to call it since it was missing the third wire. So the IC3 is not just the 3rd wire feature but ergonomic design update as well. Thanks for the clarification!
Fitz, I recently started flying again and I found your videos to be among the best there is. I haven't seen you in a few years but enjoyed your Habu STS video and since I used to have the original Habu I bought one. Your flying still seems to be spot on and your on screen delivery is tops. Keep up the the good work!
I taught myself to fly on the origional habu years ago when it was first released. The platform makes a great trainer and survived to this day. Some dremel work, an 80mm habu 32 fan, and a 6s pack have kept it enjoyable to date. Nice video!
I bought the Habu starter set for the kids Christmas. Also bought a 4S smart battery and a better charger. We are looking forward to practicing on the simulator and then going out to the flying park. Seeing you messing around with a huge smile on your face gives us confidence! Keep those You Tubes coming.
Note: The flight controller has a barometer that works in conjunction with the Safe and Intermediate modes that also pitches the nose up if we are flying too low and a bit too fast for a landing. It is off when in Expert mode as expected. If you aren't aware of it, it is a bit disconcerting! Great flying plane, I'm loving mine especially on 4S (w/4000mAh G1 Smart battery).
tank you sir for your helpful review of this plane.....as a beginner , I never thought of trying to fly a jet, but now I might think about picking this model up on a 3S...........
Hello and thank you for this habu test, especially for takeoffs in the grass! Many present the aircraft only in the ideal conditions of a hard runway take-off, which we do not all have at our disposal. If you had to choose between a habu and a Viper as your first jet, what would be your choice and why. Thank you again for your videos that I watch with pleasure! Friendly from Belgium
Interesting question. Both jets are good as a first jet in different ways. I think it depends on your skill level and personal preference. The Viper jet is faster (6s) and more complex (retracts & flaps), also slightly smaller wing area if i recall. If you have good experience in moderate/high speed, low wing sport planes then i would likely recommend the Viper. But it you are still relatively new to hobby then go with the Habu STS. Though the caveat is as you mentioned for tall grassy fields you would be better with the Habu.
My Habu was stolen when it went into the next park...I ordered another habu...but I didn’t realize that it needed its own unique flight controller.....E flight should put up some type of notice on this.
Thanks for the word "phugoid" (or fugoid). I've wondered if that oscillating pitch pattern had a name and of course it does. Now take the wheels off, add 5s and see what she'll do!
Additional Thoughts: I also don't taxi much in grass (my flying field is all grass) as it tends to suck up debris into the engine (especially freshly cut grass) and will need to be cleaned out which is a pain and may require disassembly. So, it's not a "walk of shame" but a "walk of victory!", LOL.
I am an experienced flyer, but have not flown in about 10 years. I will be flying on grass fields only. Would this be a good choice for me? I know I will catch on with flying again quite quick and want something more than just a trainer. The 4S option and the larger wheels seems to make this a more doable option. Would you agree or any other suggestions? Thanks!
Yes, I think so. The large wheels help a lot with grass. 4S gives you some reserve power. I would suggest making the first few flights with an instructor if you can.
Great video! 2 questions A) what is the toggle switch marked (D 0,1,2) above the throttle used for on a Spektrum DXS transmitter? B) how do you trim the plane manually? That wasn’t shown in video.
I don’t have one of these, but I would bet the Freewing Rebel would fly as good if not better. Has Landing gear which the Habu doesn’t have, and is grass capable. I have had mine for several years now with 280 flights on it, and still going strong. It’s fast for a 4 cell bird. Rebel is less money also. Just tying to help those who might be looking.
Can you add a GPS 3173 Module on this? If so would you have to program the receiver? And where would you physically install the GPS module? Appreciate any guidance you can give me.
Why do all these jets have such small capacity batteries? It seems like it would be easy to hold batteries with 2 or 3 times as much capacity. Or couldn't they make a connector so you could put 2 or 3 batteries in the jet? Such a shame all these jets have such short flying times.
If someone can make a video on how to set one of these up with a receiver and flight controller, that would be great. I accidentally bought one without the full set up.
upon landing on safe mode, the barometer keep it hover longer with long landing so i always missed my target landing spot. i want to turn it off but don't know how.
Nice graphic bro. 🤔🤔🤔🤔 it is just me or does anybody notice his scenario just like sim. Even when he zoom to control surface and do taxi, remind me of aerofly rc 7🤣 even the cloud, grass and the runway🤣
They do indeed intend for it to be your first airplane. The link in the description states it several times: "...it’s the ONLY jet new pilots can succeed with as their first RC plane"
1:06 *IC3 connector
haha, i knew someone would notice that. It had no third wire, so fake IC3 connector?

Adding the RF9.5 Trainer edition (Steam based) w/dongle is really a fantastic idea! All the trainers from HH should offer that in my opinion.

Good job! Enjoyed your video.
I was wondering what you did to the jet mechanically when you first landed it to make adjustments.
Great video Fitz. Talking flight reviews are ++good. Using a camera that can zoom in on the plane is a separate gold star.

@@MotoMarkDFW , The Habu STS would be easier for you to get your wings back after 10 years. :)
Sadly mine did not come with the USB dongle to try out before I take to the field. Was this a limited time inclusion?
Thanks for sharing. I'm waiting on doing maiden on mine but the weather really wont let me.
Nice video. What camera did you use? Please :)
Looks super as a beginner EDF plane .....!
Great video!
2 questions
A) what is the toggle switch marked (D 0,1,2) above the throttle used for on a Spektrum DXS transmitter?
B) how do you trim the plane manually? That wasn’t shown in video.
A) it is the difficulty such as begginer, intermediate and experienced modes to increase pitch and roll
I like the relaxed tone of your voice. I’ve got musicians ears and I find some people’s voices so annoying and high strung.
Great video. I've ordered this jet and this is a great asset. Also I noticed you play civilization v, it's one of my favorites as well.

Retract landing gear , sorry.
Thanks my manual said but rudder control in the other way around all right no left
Lovely, helpful and very informative video.
Nice review.
The sim helpt me a lot to improve so now I am much more confident flying my planes, have yet to do the maiden on my habu.
Did yours come with the sim? I just got mine directly from horizon hobby amd my rtf doesn't have the dongle
@Daniel Zaker I contacted Horrizon Hobby and they sent me the wireless dongle to me overnight
Good times . Great to watch

Will i be able to fly the 90mm Viper after training with the Habu?
Enjoyed that was looking at getting 1 of these so might be a new 1 in the hanger 🤙🤙

Nice video m8
I just got mine
I bought this last week and I think I threw the code away, was the code to download realflight with the manual?
Hey bud.. what camera did you use to get the onboard shots?
pretty cool.🤔🛩👍

If someone can make a video on how to set one of these up with a receiver and flight controller, that would be great. I accidentally bought one without the full set up.
Should I land with safe on or off I am very new into this and it seems like it is very hard for me to get it down with safe on please help thanks
Learn to fly with SAFE off as it will give you more control.

What a great and informative video. Thank you Sir.

Should be the same as most controllers. Essentially as far as you can see it.
