I've knitted and crocheted since 8 years old thanks to my maternal grandma , she was an absolutely wonderful teacher , I'm not nearly as wonderful as she , but Jayda I love your tutorials and when I follow they look almost as professional and beautiful as hers . Thank you for your hard work. Both you and your husband Mr. In Stitches are ama,ing....
Jayda, please never change the way you teach! You are so clear in your directions I never have a problem learning from you! Your bubbly personality is so uplifting. I just learned the granny hexagon. Thank you so much for all you do! Carol
I learned the basics of crochet about 12 years ago, from my mother, my grandmother, who was an avid crocheter, was going to teach me more stitches, however the weekend we were going to get together she passed away. For many years now i just played around with the basic stitches until i stumbled upon your youtube channel a few months ago. Since then I have immersed myself in crocheting (adding to my already numerous other hobbies) and have even been able to show my mother some new patterns and stitches(which she loves)all thanks to you. I love your energy and the way you explain things. It is fun, thorough, and always turns out just as it should. So I wanted to thank you for taking your time and posting these videos and helping me, as well as many others, to achieve these wonderful projects with such a wonderful and cheerful demeanor.
Eric Miller Hi Eric! Thank you so much for such a sweet note :) I'm so sorry that you lost your grandmother, oddly, I was just saying to someone else today that I really wish I could just have one more afternoon with my own, she was such a goofy, fun-loving woman! Thank you so much for watching and taking the time to say hello - share the Crafty Happiness :)
I started crocheting about a month ago. I’ve seen a lot of different videos and think yours are great so easy to follow, you give great instructions and advise! Plus your personality is refreshing! Please keep videos coming.
Jayda Please do not change how you show your videos. I love, Love Love how you do them and you have helped me so much to learn. You show every little detail from start to finish and they are fantabulous!!! xx
hello im from ontario but living in belize. you suffer from excessive happinessitis and i love it and apreciate how you teach. dont ever change. you make crochet fun
Super tutorial with humour attached, thanks Jayda for always adding a bit of fun to your shows I thoroughly enjoy watching them, your instructions are clear and precise, and repeated regularly so no room for mistakes, looking forward to seeing your end product Jayda, take care, stay well and thanks a mil for everything.
Years ago 1 of my first projects was a granny square topper for an end table. Well it's a hexagon table and now I am going to make a giant granny square that is the correct shape. I don't know why it took me so long to find this superb idea! Thanks!
Jayda!! Thank you so much. You explain the construction so well, explaining just what each step and stitch is for. You can't be bettered. I'm now crazy about hexagons!
Oh my... gold hexagons joined with black... and some bees appliqued around the edge, and randomly on the body of the afghan or scarf... wouldn't that be ADORABLE?
YOU ARE AWESOME. I HAVE WATCHED MANY AND COULD NOT UNDERSTAND NOTHING WHAT TO DO. BUT YOU ARE JUST SO BASIC AND THOROUGH THAT IT MAKES SENSE TO A BEGINNER. THANK YOU HONEY. IM THRILLED ABOUT STARTING MINE. I GOT YOU AND I CAN DO IT. PRAY FOR ME LOL
I some how picked up on this pattern so much faster than any other pattern before, thank you so much for going over everything and you went at such a good speed that I could easily count with you! It was like I was with a irl crochet teacher. Thank you for the tutorial!
This is so awesome! You showed me how to make a granny square and now this one. You make it so easy for me. Thank you for taking the time to teach people to do this. It’s so Cool!
I love the African flower pattern and have made 2 throws for my grand-daughters. Your instructions are great and you are so easy to listen to. Lovely to think we have contact though so far apart. Thanks so much for all your tutorials, you have ģiven me a new hobby although I am 89.
Thank you Jada was not as hard as I thought 😅😊 this 23:45 tutorial is super easy right now I’m practicing with little ones using the leftover yarn one day I’ll attempt the big blanket 😅😝😛🫶😘💐
This is fabulous as always! Do you happen to have a tutorial for a solid one? I want to make a temperature blanket with the solid hexagon! And can not seem to understand most other teachers, but yours are always so clear. Thank you for sharing your talent!
@@JaydaInStitches I will be patiently waiting, so in the meantime I will continue with the granny square. And maybe my next blanket will be a solid hexagon! Thank you for considering my idea❤️
thank you for sharing your hexagon grant square. I am making myself an adult cardigan by folding hexagon so it creates a cardigan. Just finished one side and now have to crochet the other side. it really will make a great cover up during the cool days. You are a great teacher!!!😇😇
Hi Jayda and MrInStitches! I just love you both. You were the first crocheting videos I watched because I searched for the easiest patterns I could. I fell in love with Jayda's bubbly personality and MrInStitches wonderful video/photography skills. Later on I learned he has a wonderful personality too. I have since discovered other wonderful people in the world of crochet but I keep coming back to The "Jayda InStitches Show," and her wonderful tutorials, explanations, and LiveStreams! I don't type fast (or crochet fast either) so I don't send messages on the Livestream but I do enjoy them. I just wish they would keep their Canadian winter weather in Canada. Kansas City, MO, is cold enough without ice and snow!
Another great tutorial !!! I made the Hexagon Square ! You are a great teacher ! you demonstrate these projects so well ! I have learned alot of things from watching your tutorials . Again thank you
wow this is the easiest i have seen - you explain it so well (I like you refer to them as shells) makes perfect sense. other videos are so complicated. than you so much.
Thanks Jayda for the response my arrangement starts with 4 then 5,6,7,6,5,4 in each row. This is just a small throw just to get the hang of doing it, my hexagons have four rows each
Fabulous tutorial, thank you so much! Wanted a simple spin on the traditional granny square to make a throw for my couch using sock yarn scraps! It's going to take a while, but that's fine. Love the tutorial and your fun personality!
+Britt's Life WeeklyVlog Hi Britt! Thank you for watching :) Sock yarn scraps may be small, but they're very pretty! Sounds like you have a really cool afghan in the works!
Hi Susan, you can keep going for sure! You might notice though, that as the Hexagon gets bigger, it might want to warp a bit as the weight pulls on the centre of the motif. The way to help curb this is to slowly tighten up on your tension OR switch to a smaller hook. It's normal to loosen up as the rows get bigger, so switching to a smaller hook (even if it's just a half size smaller) can help keep the warp from becoming too apparent :)
I'm working on single crocheting down the side of my single crochet blanket.I want to do multiple rounds in single crochet stitch. When I'm working down the side of my blanket putting a st.to every row my work wants to curl.Or have a wavy effect. How do I prevent this?Love your granny's squares videos reminds me of my grandma blankets she made:).
Hi Jayda....I love your teachings, videos, tutorials....CONGRA!!. Now here it goes my question: when watching the square granny tutorial at the point of joining end of the 3 double crochet to the top of the next double crochet you did a slip knot and then fliping the hook through the hole and slip it again. But in the hexagon when joining (whether you will change color or not) you go on the top stitches till the next space. So my question is: what is the difference at this point of joining or closing on a hexagon and square? Many thanks again
Hi Beatriz, you can use either method! When building a granny motif, you can slip stitch backwards into the nearest space OR slip stitch across the stitches ahead of you into the next space. In each case, you chain 3 to begin in a space, and then complete your shell :)
Hi Carol you can sew or crochet them together like you would any other granny motif, we have a tutorial on 3 easy methods linked in the description box below the video. Thank you for watching 😊
Hi Paula, a lot of people ask this :) It's totally possible, but as you make these hexagons bigger and bigger, they tend to warp (the weight pulling on the centre makes it ripple a lot) so I've preferred making smaller ones and assembling them into a hexagon pattern (or a rectangle, depending on my mood!)
Hi Jayda I have done the hexagon motif and it turned out great. I have some bon bon yarn which I am using to make hexagons which i will makr into a throw, from Jamaica love you
HI Madhu, in theory yes! Just keep in mind that as your hexagon gets bigger, it may want to warp a little as the weight of the hexagon pulls on the centre - this puts a lot of stress on a small place and can create a warping or rippling effect.
Once again you have inspired me! You explain every step so well. I have difficulty making my hexagons lay flat. Would it help if I try using a slightly larger hook for the first 2 rows?
Hi Barbara, it might be that you're yarn is a bit thick for your hook, we are cramming in a lot of shells into a small space lol. You might try starting with a few more chains in your chain ring, that will give you some more breathing room and you shouldn't have to change your hook size :)
Your amazing I came across your videos by looking at some others because I could not catch up because they moved too fast.Thank god I hit your photo and am so pleased with you.Keep up good work!! Have a great day.
Wow that snowflake blanket is beautiful. I'm currently making a bunch of granny squares. Next I'll have to try the hexagon or the African flower hexagon. I haven't done any colour changing things yet. Do you stand up when you make these videos? If you do, don't your legs get tired or your back get sore?
Hi Jenille, thank you for watching! Yarn and hooks definitely vary in their availability around the globe. To make you yarn thicker, you can always double up the strands you're using, I do that myself sometimes :)
Hi Jayda thanks for tutorial, I have made a bunch of hexagons for a blanket what is the best method for joining them using a yarn needle. Laying them down flat or puting them together like sides together and sew together
Hi Joan, I've been working on a hexagon blanket of my own for a while. I laid them all out in the arrangement that I liked first (on the floor, your desk, the bed, whatever :) and then depending on the arrangement, either sew them together in rows (if it's a rectangle arrangement) and then sew the rows together OR if it's a larger hexagon arrangement, begin with the 5 that fit around the centre hexagon, and just sew them individually to the centre and the hexagon immediately next to it. The only real trick to remember in either arrangement, is to pair up the stitches and sew through the pairs. You can work flat on a surface, or hold the two sides together as you sew. :)
Hi Lynne, you can keep going and make a huge hexagon 😊 The bigger they get, the more they might appear to "warp" a little because the weight of the blanket pulls on the centre, but it's not necessarily a bad thing!
Hola jada. So can you show how you did the blanket of the exagons with the staring point of the single exogenous in the beginning Of the blanket. Gracias today is 09-14-2020- Gracias Be save. LOVE YOUR WORK and all the help you have giving me.
Hi, Jayda, been making loads of grannys this year and now this is another one to my list can i ask how many do you think i need for a King-size bed? or do i just carry on till it fits i have made one so far(i know right, many to make)....thank you for your time..Kim
Hi Kim! It depends on how big you want your blanket (just covering the top? drape? a fold back? etc). I find these motifs get ripply or wobbly if they get TOO big, so I would keep them between 4 and 7 rounds. Then measure one from side to opposite side for it's width/height, divide that number into your target width and target height for the number you need across and down (across x down = total number of motifs). Then...guesstimate the amount of yarn you used in your first motif and multiply that by your total number or motifs for total yarn...then add extra for joining and borders :)
Jayde do you have a video on how to join? Can I make a blanket to fit a Queen size bed? And on more question, I watch one of your video's on how many square it would take for the size your bed, would you measure these hexagon squares the same way?. Ty for all your hard work you have done for all of us crocheters
+Cheryl Amith Hi Cheryl, you can join your Hexagons using the same methods you would for joining squares (I have a tutorial for that). I've been joining mine with the whip stitch however I just find it easier. The hexagon blanket I'm working on will eventually cover a king size bed. When measuring your hexagons, I use the measurement from two opposite sides, since hexagons are equal, the height will be the same as the width, no matter which way you look at it :)
Hello Jayda! I really hope you read this, I need help! I don't remember how to make a hexagon into a square. I hope you can help me please! Thank you! ❤
l tried looking up the star pattern and it say it could not be found. I would really like to make this. Is there any where else you could recommend. Thank you so much for your beautiful patterns I truly enjoy your fabulous spirit.
Hi Jayda, What type of border do you suggest I put on each hexagon? I am currently doing all different colors, but want them to all have a black border, just not sure as to which stitch to use or what type of boarder to use. I also want t know if they're is a way of putting all the hexagon's together. I want to have the same picot look that you have going on with yours. Should I attach as I go?, and if so, is there a certain way they should be joined? I have 16 hexagon's done (border-less). so far.

Just love it, gorgeous. Can you possibly continue with one hexagon and just continue till it's blanket size. Thank you
Absolutely! It will lean or "dance" a little when it gets really big, but it's not a big deal and I think that actually looks neat 😊
Thank you so very much, think I'll try it. Something different.
Very clear instructions! Thanks for the tips.
Can you do a video on connecting these hexagons? :) when your borders are all different, how do you decide which corresponding color to use ?

Hi Jenille, thank you for watching! Yarn and hooks definitely vary in their availability around the globe. To make you yarn thicker, you can always double up the strands you're using, I do that myself sometimes :)
I have been wanting to do this for a while. Thanks it turned out great.
Can you keep working this until it is large enough for a blanket or do you need to make them and connect them??!
@@JaydaInStitches thanks Jayda i will do as you said ,and thank you for all you do for us, stay safe and take care ...Kim....

Hu Jayda, How many rows should I make for a handbag?
l tried looking up the star pattern and it say it could not be found. I would really like to make this. Is there any where else you could recommend. Thank you so much for your beautiful patterns I truly enjoy your fabulous spirit.
Hi Jayda,
What type of border do you suggest I put on each hexagon? I am currently doing all different colors, but want them to all have a black border, just not sure as to which stitch to use or what type of boarder to use. I also want t know if they're is a way of putting all the hexagon's together. I want to have the same picot look that you have going on with yours. Should I attach as I go?, and if so, is there a certain way they should be joined? I have 16 hexagon's done (border-less). so far.
