    The current minutes restriction comes from when he rolled his ankle vs the Bulls and everyone thought it looked really bad but he said it was nothing and kept playing. A few nights later he stepped on a ballboy's foot warming up in Dallas and Pop held him out of the game and he has been on a ~24 minutes a night minute restriction with no back to backs since while saying they're waiting for MRI results on the ankle. I suspect a lot of that is the team wanting to tank for Risacher or Sarr or maybe Topic though.

    Nice. Honestly, I feel like the Spurs and Pop have been approaching the entire team's development and long-term goals pretty wisely. I'm likely off, but it seems like while every casual was claiming that the team is either tanking or completely mad, the Spurs just did the kinda thing they and the Heat tend to do-treat the regular season as development for everyone, no real regard for stats and awards.
    Or the Spurs franchise is suddenly completely inept. But idk, I think some coaches have the power and leeway to do what's necessary in the face of constant criticism and the cultural imperative to strive for immediate results, all else be damned. Pop is definitely one of those coaches.

      @DaintyBroom2233 9 месяцев назад +8

      You hit the nail on the head completely. Everything their doing this season has been for the benefit of the team, this team specifically did not trade or pick up any PGs for a reason, they did the Sochan experiment for a reason, it's that all these things are to maximize the potential of all the players they have on the roster while simultaniously keeping all assets for a later time. Wether the team was good or bad was not their concern, but to add icing to the cake beign bad and adding more top end talend to pair with Wemby doesn't hurt either. The spurs are a top 3 or 5 organization in the leauge, nobody realizes this because they've always been lowkey but they are.

      Emil, thank you for the laugh of the day. Putting players, especially young ones (he's a ROOKIE) in uncomfortable positions on the court will only make them grow faster. That's how growth happens. And you frivolously claim the Spurs put him on minutes restriction protocol for no reason? They literally announced they were going to do so after he rolled his ankle in warmups in Dallas. The Spurs med staff said then, and has reiterated every game since then, that it is team protocol to lessen minutes when a player endures a playable injury. It's not like they're in the playoff hunt or need him to play 40 per night. All of this probably seems foreign to you, though, since you clearly have a minimal understanding of NBA basketball and almost certainly don't watch this team.@@emilfrederiksen.1622

    Most franchises don’t retire your jersey unless you win a championship and/or played at an elite level for more than eight years for that franchise. Rondo won a chip with Boston; Derrick White wears number 9 today. Ray Allen took Milwaukee to the Eastern Conference Finals just like Melo did for Denver; some guy named Giannis wears 34 for the Bucks.
    PJ Dozier wore number 35 for OKC after KD left, so KD has more of a gripe.
    Teams don’t retire that many jersey numbers. Melo doesn’t have the most compelling case for a player who hasn’t yet received that honor.

  • @wannabelikegzus

    It took six years for Jokic to ramp up to his superstar, offensive machine status. The idea that the organization knew they were going to be in a situation where they had to choose between forcing their all-time great to switch numbers or snub one of their most iconic players is ridiculous. Also, Melo forced his way out of the franchise and couldn't stand George Karl.

    Wemby is definitively an all star right now. His stats, when extrapolated out to full playing time, are on par with Giannis. That's insane for a rookie to come in playing at MVP caliber right out of the gate like that, even for the greatest player of all time.

      Chet, the 2nd in the running for ROTY, is surrounded by efficient shooters and so he gers a boost to his efficiency. People then point to his team winning more as though that makes him better, etc.

    One thing on the Jokic number thing. From what I understand, in European ball, they give out numbers similar to how we did in the NFL until recently. The tallest player wears 15 from what I've heard, so Jokic was probably used to that number and they just let him keep it.

    • @Skinineful

      Most jersey sets for youth teams go from 4 to 15, and yes, the higher numbers tend to be larger sizes. So it's likely Jokic has used the 15 as a kid due to probably being massive compared to the other kids, and, when reaching a level of play where he could pick his number, in true Jokic fashion, said "I was wearing 15 before, so why change?"

We have very little concrete idea about what his decision making process was and what his intentions/priorities were. Given his track record, I doubt it was some kind of oversight on his part that he was too slow or clueless to figure out.

    Victor has surpassed Chet in player efficiency rating. Chet’s currently at 20.5, wemby is at 21.5.
    Both of these are ridiculously high for rookies, I think Lebron was at 18 or 19 PER his rookie year. They are already better than 85% to 90% of the players in the league. Wemby could be something we’ve never seen before.

    If Wemby was asked to do less on offense, I legitimately believe he would already be a top 20 player. He's the best lob threat and one of the best rim protectors in the league, makes free throws, runs the floor extremely well. But because he's taking inefficient shots pretty often you cant put him there yet.

    I believe Coach Popovich should reconsider his strategy with Wemby. Holding him back to less than 35 minutes a game might be overly cautious. Wemby is a top-tier talent who needs substantial court time for his NBA development. Look at LeBron’s nearly 40 minutes per game in his rookie season - it’s not unreasonable to expect similar from Wemby. By limiting his minutes, we’re not just stunting his growth but also not leveraging our team’s full potential. Wemby needs the challenge of extended play to truly excel. Now’s the time to fully tap into his remarkable skills. Let Wemby play!!!!!!!

    • @Mandozen
      @Mandozen 9 месяцев назад

      I think the Spurs not starting Tre since earlier this season was because they want to develop other players playmaking skills such as with Sochan and Branham. Sochan is a PF, but imagine him being to playmake as well, that would be a great asset to the team in the future. Same with Branham, him improving his playmaking skills is going to benefit the team in the future. If there’s anytime to experiment with the line-up and player positions, it is now since they aren’t contending anyway. Use this season to tank to get more high draft picks while also developing your generational talent player and the other players as well.

If he will continue to play the way he's playing he'll run away with it, but it's yet to be seen. Steal away ROTY from Chet? Chet's the one stealing ROTY from Wemby with the help of his teammates. imo. It's like Melo almost stole Lebron's ROTY because of his Team's performances or Donvan Mitchell and Ben Simmon's situations. IT'S AN INDIVIDUAL AWARD (i.e., who has a better stats and a better game individually) and Wemby is by far better in every corner except his effeciency on FG% and 3pts% only (which he took less shot with lesser mpg) & Victor's FT% is better and Chet has more open shots with less FGA where Wemby crates his own lane to make his FG. One of the biggest takeaway from Wemby compared to Chet is that he's actually going against the superstars and elite Big men and still putting up these stats is Craaazy.. But it's still too early to say who's gonna be better to win the ROTY, . But I root for OKC more than Spurs in overall NBA game this season. I still believe Chet could reach his peak faster with much potential than Wemby because he can learn a real men games from his teammates and be great faster than Wemby and that's a bad sign for Wemby. But, as far as who's better on both end of the floor and contribute more, my Vote is for Wemby.
