Awesome big baby you've got there. It's funny reading comments from those who are afraid to experiment with extended range instruments. I have a Conklin GT-7 I restrung from B-F to low F# to C. The only downside is causing seismic readings at a local geological institute. I actually do use the F# in original compositions. I'm even thinking about restringing it again to a low C# to G. I very rarely use the high C I have on it now. Keep up the good work, enjoy your big beautiful beastie and just forget about the box you think outside of.
+Catlover777ful I would just tune to low F# - c if I was you. Then again that's just me. I still don't understand why go higher if your a bassist. We are the people that make the sound fatter and sound better. we are the master race and the guitars are Taking what is ours so were taking the higher range WHY!? sorry for the mini Rant there.
I agree C, I did this also on my 7. I tune from low F# to C . Why go hi and sound like a thick lead. We are BASS. BOTTOM is what we do. I may solo or play a few chords or harmonics up top, but I will be establishing the bottom always. (AC#E) !!!
@Catlover777ful Conklin basses are sick. Curious....what type of amp/stack/head/cords do you use to truly appreciate that low of a tone? Does it sound better with bigger speaker like a 15" or will 10" to 12" still push it out clearly? I know quality is more important than size generally but just curious.
That is a monster of an instrument, I've just picked up electric guitar (or an instrument, period) and I couldn't imagine playing something like this, this way.
Thanks! That arpeggio form "Every Breath you take" comes from the Jean Baudin's instructional book, i don't remember if i was playing it in the right key... You should be able to find a video of Jean playing it in RUclips (with Yves Carbonne, great stuff)
Thanks! I never took bass lessons, i always try to develop my own style, but sometimes i found a player that does something i like and i try to copy/learn from him... I had some basic tapping skills, recently i really got into Jean Baudin's music and i started wanting to learn more. He wrote a tapping method book (you can buy it on his site), in my opinion is really good for intermediate to advanced player, i learned a lot from it.
Thanks! Delano and Bartolini are great, but i don't think the recording gave justice to the PUs. The pickups are hand made by the liuther, in my opinion they're good, the strings mounted originally instead were really dull. This is my first passive bass, i'm not used to them and probably i added too much compression. I want to add an active preamp (Aguilar probably). The noise came from a electric problem in my recording setup (now it's fixed :-)).
Hello it was really fun listening you play .I was looking at getting a 38" scale myself. So I am very thankful to see this video. What gauge strings did you use?
The tuning is standard B, from the low B of a 5 string bass to a Bb that is half step down the second string of a guitar. I'm still mounting the original strings, you can use standard strings combined with piccolo bass strings or you can buy extended sets from manifacturers like Conklin.
everytime theres a bass with x amount of strings people never stop asking about tuning as if theres some magic standard tuning. HINT: they are tuned in 4ths all the way do. can be 4 strings or 40 strings and it will always go down a 4th. (not to confuse with standard guitar tuning which is all 4ths with a 3rd on the 5th string (G to B), which is why the 5th string (or 6th since most extra string basses start with 1 lower string B) will go to a C instead of a B (as some would assume since thats how it is standard tuned on a guitar. So remember: standard BASS TUNING starts with the lowest note (E or B depending on how low you go) and the next open string will be a 4TH down. Also good to note if you start from the highest string -say the g string on a 4 string bass, it goes up by 5THs. just like the circle of 5ths/ 4ths :)
I like this tuning and the fanned design much better for an 8-string. Most amps and speakers cannot handle the F# tuning, anyway. Let alone, a system that can reproduce the sound once it's been recorded.
Very good technique, but the pickups sound to me a bit dead, no much dinamic and tonal range. Personally I love the Delanos and the bright tone Bartolinis, which I think would improve a lot the sound. Of course, the strings could have worstened the sound quality. I am not sure either about the recording, it is quite noisy. Again, is it a pickup issue?
What's the technical name for the way your frets are positioned? I'm pricing up a Prometeus Stratus custom, looking at some interesting I could possibly have.
Good feature! They call them "fanned frets", or you can call the instrument "multiscale". They look very strange but it's really easy to adapt to them in my opinion, they make the instrument sound better (expecially when you have many strings) and easier to play on higher strings.
complimenti, davvero (stupenda teardrop, in pochi se ne sono accorti!) comunque il mio vecchio maestro di basso mi aveva fatto provare il suo di prometeus (6 corde), .. mitico e mitica prometeus!
@@SJRogers0786 I bought this instrument at a special price as "demo" instrument almost 10 years ago. It's better if you ask directly to the luthier @ www.prometeusguitars.com

That Rage Against the Machine, and that Primus!!! :P
What tuning is the bass in? And what's the standard for eight string bass?
Thanks for watching, the tuning is BEADGCFA# (low to high). Most 8 string ERB have a low F# instead of an high A#
Rhaonoa isnt the 8 string have a tuning which is F#BEADGCF

what's the range on this guitar? extended range bass's are usually
35" this one looks shorter then that

what's the string spacing on this thing?

thanks man!

Where do you get strings and how much are they?
Which is the tuning of this bass guitar? Is it the tuning of a guitar plus two low strings?
a 6 string bass plus two higher strings

I only play covers in this video, that part is from "Every breath you take" by Police
How do you slap with such a narrow spacing?
Алексей Полевой The spacing is not that narrow, it's similar to the string spacing of a 5 string Ibanez... Eventually you get used to it.

What's the tuning?
What is the tuning of your 8 string bass
The tuning is standard B, from the low B of a 5 string bass to a Bb that is half step down the second string of a guitar.
yea 5 strings is enough for me
So an 8 string guitar has 2 more low strings, and an 8 string bass probably has an extra low string and 3 extra high strings.
What's the tuning? Low F# to a High F?
low B to A#
Thank you. Amazing playing by the way! Not to pester you but what is the full tuning?
+Isaiah Johnson Thanks! The full tuning is BEADGCFA# (low to high)
Thank you so much!
Isaiah Johnson the standard tuning is #F-F though but
It was a demo instrument, let's say around the price of an American Jazz Bass
...and I thought slapping with 5 string bass was hard because of the tighter string spacing :DDD
Awsome
unexpect confirmed
I would say you need to learn to mute the strings, but tbh that’s kinda impossible on this.
I think its neck is as wide as a 10-string guitar’s.
