WEll many different guitars in one show is admittedly some clean fun for all the guitar guys in the crowd. So, good for him. Great artist too, all aside.
@Ajepson2 "Blue and Evil" from Black Rock is the first song you hear, and then Last Kiss from Ballad of John Henry is the first song you hear Joe playing
@OliTheGuitarist i was giving information to someone who asked, i was aware that dust bowl was out i just didnt think at the time, is that such a crime?
The Explorer must be Korina or something if its light my Ebony Gibson Explorer I know for a fact is mahog and its a freaking tank! Props to Joe for owning an Explorer too, its still my favorite Gibson.
It would be a bit too much hassle though. Yeah that is true, but if Joe wants to, and can use the guitars he owns, why shouldn't he? They're nice guitars that should be played. He puts them all to good use if you ask me
-.- I'm fairly sure the phrase "been through the war" means tons of gigs, the guitar full of battle scars and things like that. Not literally been through world war 1 or 2, and it would be impossible anyway, the Flying V was first introduced in 1958, world war 2 ended around 1945. It would be impossible for the guitar to be in the war as it wasn't even introduced yet.
Joachim Eskildsen Apologies. Yes, it was meant to be a joke. I am aware of the history of the Vee and am not suggesting that it was from either war period. I hope that I haven't offended anybody either. Was in no way belittling the bravery or sacrifices made by soldiers on either side. My great uncle was a fallschirmjager and died near St Lo. It's a british humour thing about Germany. The media over here is obsessed with a 6 year period as opposed to the fact that there have been more nobel prize winners from germany than any other country as well as the great composers the scientific achievements our own royal family, protestantism and of course our germanic based language. On a personal level my family are germanic.
Nathan Lam Yes, it was a flippant joke. I am very aware of the history of Gibson and the Vee and I know that WW2 ended May 8th 1945. Sorry. I"m British and it was a joke on the phrase not a literal thing.
Joachim Eskildsen On a slight deviation, I appreciate that Germans are very sensitive concerning WW1 and 2 but, if there's one nation that should be sensitive apologetic and humble it should be the English. It was the English that banned exiled and murdered Jews during the 13th C and during the 14th C used the word holocaust, (Wholly burnt) was first used in english with reference to atrocities against the Jews by the English. It was the English that first used concentration camps in !900 in south africa against the Boer's and it was the British empire that attempted to control 1/4 of the planets land mass and 1/5th of the worlds population. Sorry to rant but I feel that too many people don"t know their history.
oddbod4321 Please shut up. How fucking off subject can you get? It's a joe bonamassa rig rundown video and you're writing about the holocaust and some kind of anti- english rant? I could understand if it was maybe a fucking holocaust video but it's not. You sound like one of those really annoying types of people that draws out small mentions and drags them out into huge arguments. Don't start slagging english people ( or any race) off on the internet. You are just asking for trouble. I'm sorry to seem harsh and believe me i love history but i would recommend you save it for a time and a place that's relevant.
Well, he could probably carry bunch of guitars, at least 3 without any issue. He doesn't want to, though. You can get many differente sounds adjusting your amp, attacl and whatnot. He has a crazy range of sounds and probably has 10 pedals at most in his gigging setup. And yes, he sounds amazing. I'm not digging at Joe, I'm digging at all this "carry one guitar for each song just because I can" attitude.
Actually the guitar Joe calls "Gary Moore" aka "Peter Green" is named for a famous guitar Gary Moore played for years which was given, some say loaned, to Gary Moore by Peter Green. I understand the guitar now is part of a collectors collection in Charlotte, N. C. If you can, check out the late Gary Moore's latest DVD "Blues for Jimi" recorded in 2007 with the late Mitch Mitchell (Jimi Hendrix's drummer) on drums on a few tracks. Gary (usually Les Pauls) plays Fender Strats on this though.
He probably can't afford to take lots out on the road with him. I like how your saying Govan's only obsession is sound, not the gear.. I would think that gear plays a pretty big part in creating sound.. lol. Your dig at Joe here is fairly pointless man..
Thats hilarious...I didnt and still dont know how to do e-bay.....I really do wonder how bad it was for him to buy that guitar with the alias Joe Banamassa....???
Guess he doesn't have 'people' to do 'normal' stuff for him like most 'stars' do, and it flustered him a bit- like having an ebay 'store' name! Or not wanting to use PP. They must have flipped when they realized it was really HIM, not someone using his name as their ebay handle!!!
steve0aw How is that being a baby? We all get bored of playing the same guitars. Thats why so many guitarists have many guitars. They all make you sound and play in a different way, which is what keeps things interesting when you're playing hours and hours a day.
steve0aw Well thats you. The extreme majority get bored with one guitar, and even if they don't they get other guitars to help them better achieve certain sounds. Either you don't play stuff with much variation in sound or you must not play a ton, cause as I said, when you want multiple sounds and you play endlessly, new guitars can switch it up.
steve0aw I'm not saying I know everything, I'm just saying everyone I know who plays a lot or has a wide array of tones they use have several if not many guitars, and I know thats a pretty common thing. Money unfortunately is every guitarists problem. Although come to think of it if I did have more money I'd likely spend it all on guitars and pedals as opposed to, y'know, food. As long as your content with the guitar you've got and it gets the job done tonally then theres nothing wrong with that.
i disagree he sounds like joe b ......totally wrong bout r.ford too e bay was cool joes a rocker and guitar lover like me if u think u play better them him then critize the man.........
"I wouldn't be that crazy" taking a real 58 V on the road.
Ten years later......Brings a real 58 V on the road.
Don't know what I want more, his talent or his guitar collection?
WEll many different guitars in one show is admittedly some clean fun for all the guitar guys in the crowd. So, good for him. Great artist too, all aside.
this dude plays the guitar as it was intended. saw him with bcc a few weeks back....awesome :)
@Ajepson2 "Blue and Evil" from Black Rock is the first song you hear, and then Last Kiss from Ballad of John Henry is the first song you hear Joe playing
He's right about his rant about the JB Les Paul.. black hardware brings out the gold in the top so much better! You go, Joe!
@jude924
if you're referring to the ones in the video, they're reissues
Love the Guitar History stories!
@joviallaban Blue and evil, its from his latest album Black rock.
Well done rundown. Glad he got into them a bit more, Nothing really off-the-wall or weird tho, guitarwise.
I wonder if this was done for a solo show or for Black Country Communion. I haven't seen him use the 12/6 Music Man for anything but....anyone know?
hard to believe considering i saw him on may 8th in mtl and he used it for slow train
@OliTheGuitarist i was giving information to someone who asked, i was aware that dust bowl was out i just didnt think at the time, is that such a crime?

"They should know I wouldn't be that crazy" fast forward to current day and he has a 58 V now and I'm sure on tour w it lol
4:38 - I had a mini heart attack...
I'M VERY VERY MUCH INTRIGUED!!!!!
I hope one day i can impress you with my playing Joe
@ThieleM it's a jeff beck wired suit.
I really do miss him on a strat.
He bought the Vee in Germany and it's been through the war? Didn't say whether it was the 1st or 2nd world war but either way, that's an old guitar!

NO WAY.
Thats where I bought mine too!
YOU'RE a SUPER SUPER Nice Guy !!!!!!! & MY GUITARDIAN ANGEL HERO!!!!!!!!!!!!!

bob lackey update, Gary Moore/Peter Green is owned by Kirk Hammett of Metallica
@Malsh90ToPresent same....
I now own that firebird 1 he is showing here:):):)
I don't think it was a '58 V, it was a 1980's reissue
This is MY BONA-MOMENT Gibson in the HUMBUCKERS !!!!
If buying a kick ass 355 was "the single most traumatic events of your life" then I want your life!! ;)
@ThieleM Travolta gave it to him + some Dancing Lessons :D ^^
They all have a back up and back up for that back up. WTF, keep bringing them out, let see them all.
"I like it because it's clean... ish" *wipes guitar*
between 1958 ans 1959 only 98 flying v guitars were made, 1959 les pauls were many,
No he didnt. He used an original firebird 1 from '63 ii think.
He probably can't afford to take lots out on the road with him. I like how your saying Govan's only obsession is sound, not the gear.. I would think that gear plays a pretty big part in creating sound.. lol. Your dig at Joe here is fairly pointless man..
If you are looking for a hard to find classic axe,Joe owns them all lol
they both used the same guitar with that pickup mod...
@jude924 Mind blowing, innit? :D
after the blue double neck i thought he was done showing his guitars........then he pulls out like 10 more LOL
Gary Moore aka Peter Green?
enough beer for you
damn, and i thought my $1000 oil change was nice story. thanks for one-upping me joe lol
4:39. anybody else gasp thinking the doubleneck was gonna fall off the rack?
He's not touring with a 59 in this tour....
I wonder where he bought the white saturday night fever suit..........
What's up with the very slight brit accent at some points? or is that enough beer for me.
"I bought this in Germany, and it's been through the war" LOL
I almost shit my pants at 4:39! Jesus Christ!
Feel those strings..❤️🥰❤️💋🧢🥰❤️🇨🇦🇺🇸🎸🎸🎸👍💋💋🍷
Guthrie Govan tours with one guitar. One. I love how he doesn't indulge in the typical gear obsession. His only obsession is sound. Amazing player.
And he sounds better on a Strat that any of those guitars.....
1:26 English?!?
Go out to buy a Diet Coke and let's see if you end up buying a '59 Les Paul Reissue XD
MMMM DIDNT KNOW NEIL CAVUTO PLAYED GUITAR.
It's weally weally cool
how things change! he said everyone thinks the V is a real 58 but he wouldn't be that crazy~ and yet now he is touring with a 1959 Les Paul! rotfl
"Mr. Shades and Boot Man"
Thats hilarious...I didnt and still dont know how to do e-bay.....I really do wonder how bad it was for him to buy that guitar with the alias Joe Banamassa....???

I think he may have a slight speech impediment, but he didn't sound like that when he was younger.
@MrAlex0262
DAMN YOU TRAVOLTA....DAMN YOU!
"I got bored of playing the same guitars" what a baby
steve0aw How is that being a baby? We all get bored of playing the same guitars. Thats why so many guitarists have many guitars. They all make you sound and play in a different way, which is what keeps things interesting when you're playing hours and hours a day.
Idk I just dont see that point of view. Never once been bored with playing the same guitar.
steve0aw Well thats you. The extreme majority get bored with one guitar, and even if they don't they get other guitars to help them better achieve certain sounds. Either you don't play stuff with much variation in sound or you must not play a ton, cause as I said, when you want multiple sounds and you play endlessly, new guitars can switch it up.
I must not. Since you know all there is to know. I'm just whining cuz I don't have the money to buy whatever guitars I want.
steve0aw I'm not saying I know everything, I'm just saying everyone I know who plays a lot or has a wide array of tones they use have several if not many guitars, and I know thats a pretty common thing. Money unfortunately is every guitarists problem. Although come to think of it if I did have more money I'd likely spend it all on guitars and pedals as opposed to, y'know, food. Why does Joe have a British accent every once in a while?
+littlejon64 Sandman I thought I was the only one that noticed that.
ha! You noticed that too!! Kinda cute.
littlejon64 Sandman EXACTLY! I NOTICED THIS RIGHT AWAY!
he is so funny :)
In reponse to you two below.. at the end of the day all the real tone comes from your fingers 8).
prove it
He sounds like Jinks the cat from Pixie and Dixie....
He plays so loud that you can't hear any difference between one guitar and the next.
Sorry about the top
SORRY about the TOP....
Great taste in guitars; questionable taste in clothes
nowdays he plays a lot like Eric Johnson, or Robben Ford.....
why does he sound irish here? lol
i guess not brit, but he sure has alot of narrow "L"s in this speech.
well i heard everyone is TRYION to be like eddie van HOLEN...... -_-
He has a very unusual accent, not like most Americans I have heard
i disagree he sounds like joe b ......totally wrong bout r.ford too e bay was cool joes a rocker and guitar lover like me if u think u play better them him then critize the man.........
When this guy dies, his wife will make a TON of money selling his collection
Gary Moore was also known as Peter Green?
Joe is cool and all but he isnt exactly articulate.....
What’s the deal with his voice in this video? Is he trying to do a fake English accent?
he carries 17 guitars on tour such bullshit
Like I wrote...he isnt exactly articulate
thats the son in the intro
