I was expecting a brilliant guitar player, but he was much better.
Videorecorded at Djurs Bluesland in Denmark - april 2007. Great concert. - Видеоклипы
when I see joe live there is not a moment in the whole show where I drift away or am disengaged, it's great from start to finish, even songs that aren't my favorite on a CD come alive because his love of the guitar and respect for his audience is front and center that they all are great
(Verse 1)
Saturday mornin', grabbed my hunting knife,
Headed out for a big scoop,
Found me a camel, what a delight,
Gonna make camel head stew.
Choppin' off the hump, and I'm butchering it right,
Removing teeth like I ought to do,
'Cause I know that it's gonna be outta sight,
Yeah (yeah).
(Chorus)
Why you gotta butcher and be so crude?
Don't you know it's dinner too?
Why you gotta butcher and be so crude?
I'm gonna cook it anyway,
(Cook that head) cook it anyway,
(Cook that head) yeah, no matter what you say,
(Cook that head) and we'll eat heartily,
Why you gotta butcher and be so crude?
(Verse 2)
I hate to do this, but it's time for the boil,
Can't wait without it,
Camel stew or nothing, it's my toil,
Stirrin' in the pot a bit.
Or maybe a stew, that's so royal,
In my kitchen, you know it fits,
You know it's my kinda meal,
It's my kinda tasty dish.
(Chorus)
Why you gotta butcher and be so crude?
Don't you know it's dinner too?
Why you gotta butcher and be so crude?
I'm gonna cook it anyway,
(Cook that head) cook it anyway,
(Cook that head) no matter what you say,
(Cook that head) and we'll eat heartily,
Why you gotta butcher and be so crude?
(Bridge)
Can I have your camel for the rest of my life?
Say yes, say yes, 'cause I need to know,
You say I'll never get your blessin' 'til the day I die,
"Tough luck, my friend, but the answer is no,"
Why you gotta butcher and be so crude?
Don't you know it's dinner too?
Why you gotta butcher and be so crude?
I'm gonna cook it anyway,
(Cook that head) cook it anyway,
(Cook that head) no matter what you say,
(Cook that head) and we'll eat heartily,
Why you gotta butcher and be so crude?
(Outro)
Oh, yeah, oh,
Why you gotta butcher and be so crude?
Why? (Yeah)
Why you gotta butcher and be so crude?
this is my favorite version of this song.. he puts on a good live show..
The blues ain't nothing but a good man expressing exquisitely and eloquently that he's feelin bad
He is trying to let the legend live on ,and doing a hell of a good job doing it.Thanks joe
Didn't know there were still artists like this in the world!!! WWWOOOOWWWW!
Anybody else still paying attention to great music during this pandemic in 2021? I definitely am! One love 👍🏾
That state you get in when you're pressing the fretboard so hard you feel like your fingers could go right through it
Amen you nailed that comment, I will say African Americans had the single biggest impact on the blues and rock music when you realize rock came from the blues
And Now, there is Joe Bonamassa..."The Hardest Working Man In Blues!"
What a live !
***** _you said it_
He has got what it takes and he gives it his all! My #1 Fave! :-)
I am married to one of the greatest musicians ever, just because it wasn't his calling to be famous, everyone that has ever heard him, knows he's GREAT N GIFTED ~~~~~~~~~~CHUCK ALLEN
Sheila Allen chuck is excellent
Good on the inside
I am from Buenos Aires .Argentina. I saw Bonamasa in Buenos Aires 2013. He is the better bluesman guitarrist. Your husband is conntry man exelent
Comgratulations
Felicitaciones!
I don't understand who's going around giving this guy thumbs downs.. let alone a ton of them. Makes no sense
Especially on this -- the best version of Blues Deluxe since Jeff Beck's in '68.
278 purest snobs who haven't heard anything new in Blues in so long, Joe doesn't make it to their sensory network and infect them like he does nearly everyone who has ever heard him literally assault the sound out of human shape wood and wires, culminating is some of the best on stage and album efforts I have seen in my 65 years , 55 of which as an avid music lover.
This is a man who has embraced the purest form of ALL MUSIC in AMERICA and rather than toss it to the Disco or Rap Devils, has chosen the solitary life of keeping the form as alive as the day it was born!
The future for Joe Bonamassa is as certain as the sun being where it usually once again in the morning.
Это прекрасно!
So far I haven't heard anything new, just same old blues with no pauses in between. Nonetheless I like Joe a lot.
Rory gallager
Well said, my friend.
I’m also almost 65, still love EXCELLENT music like Joe!!!!!!
He manages to shred at certain points and it still has a fuck load of feeling. THAT is a fucking art. Hats off to Bonamassa.
This is what makes me proud to be Polish! Go Joe!
I miss this Bonamassa. Back when he just played to play. He wasn't trying to do his "blues poses" during solos or make "blues faces" when he played. He shredded and accepted his status as a bluesman who shreds. This new classy entertainer Bonamassa doesn't have the same soul he once did.
Not me I watched Mountain Time from Live at Royal Albert Hall right before watching this video and it was awesome .
He had a lot more fire back then. He seems bored now.
Maybe he's just getting more into his music; into his music zone. I would imagine that playing such intensely emotional music might lead one to make "blues faces" or "blues poses" without him being aware of any of it.
I only discovered Joe about 3 yrs ago and so I've been gradually getting to know him thru his music. I would agree with you that in some ways Joe is missing whatever he had that made BB King say on an interview that he had "it" when he was only 12 yrs old at the time. I've seen him twice live this year and I notice he's playing a lot more blues/rock instead of the straight-on blues of his earlier years. In fact the first song that I heard of his was "I'll Sing the Blues for You". and I was hooked. I just hope he won't lose his blues roots in search of the millennial audience.
No. Joes just getting older. Shedding the young man vibrato. Dressing to the 9s and being respectful. Trying to raise the bar on the status of the Art Form. I had the good fortune to see him live in Fargo, ND. and he absolutely did not disappoint. He's also got a lot of traveling to do, a business to run and a ton of playing to do. He's got to conserve himself. He's basically created an empire with a small team and doesn't need the approval of a record company or rely on entities like Clear Channel to throw him a bone. Young Joe didn't have that kind of responsibility. Older Joe has a legacy to think about....and more power to him.
he had better won this competition or whatever it was...damn, he made me sit up and take notice the FIRST time I heard him and I have been listening to music as long as Clapton has been playing it.
So glad this guy showed up. Walkin' and talkin' the stuff with a blues-based attitude that no one else can match. He'll do Zep,ZZ, Beck ...Quite the master. No one No one else today that I'd throw up front. He's one one of those "is that all you've got" guys. All I can hope for is that he keeps pumpin' out the shit.. Love it that he challenges and is not merely an imitator. This dude can lay it down.
I don’t get why others compare him and say he sounds like this or that. If your a blues player. He sounds like the blues period.
Thank you.
WHOA JOE!! Amazing talent & making noises that dont even sound like a guitar! I'm a newbie to Bonamassa's music, been listening for about 4mos & he's just incredible! THANK YOU, Warren Haynes! The 1st video I saw him in was with Warren & they rocked, trading licks like they played with each other forever! BONAMASSA's 1 OF THE GREATEST!!
He is a monster! As Hendrix used to say " Watch out for your ears!"
When the world lost Stevie & The Bulldozer.....Not many thought the blues would survive with just Gary Moore, Buddy, EC et-al flying the flag.....Then the lord struck down from above & delivered Joe Fucking Bonamassa.
Praise the fucking lord.
Great is always a tough act...we agree that he's very good. To me, and to eric clapton who used this same adjective, great, is that joe, while certainly plays some easy licks for crowd appeal, his acoustic work, the clearness of the notes that he plays, and the precision at which he scales up and down the neck are works of wonder. He is GREAT
I agree particularly regarding the clarity and precision of his playing. It has always impressed me. He is not a sloppy player by any measure.
His best performance imo
Holy F--cking shit!!! Joe, tears it up.... Cannot wait to see him live here soon!!! Keep it going Joe. Carry the torch with pride....You are the master of the Les Paul!!!
THIS MAN GOT TH' BLUES BAD! listened to this video several times again and again... he takes you WTF out there and forces you to feel it... and you like it, no you like it aLOT!!!
I clicked this... Then my first reaction was just simply: "Holy crap." I was speechless for the rest.
The dude never plays a tune just to get through it. He's "all in." Has my respect. A shy, quiet guy. But lay a six-string in his hands, and he turns into a beast. Check out a few of his earlier CDs.
Joe Bonamassa with a Gibson guitar! What a perfect match! Great playing!
Amazing that there are so many critical comments of Joe. He's doing what so many others aren't, and that is keeping the blues alive! Who cares if he is or is not the best at this point. I would rather listen to Joe introduce the blues to a new audience than not at all.
How can u say he sucks and has no soul wtf
Fuckin haters at least he is keeping the blues around /keeping it alive That is soul to me
+RedWing101 He has extremely good technical things going on and at first seconds i thought he sounded just like gary moore, then i got annoyed and jumped in my seat. He just plays "too much", there's too little breathing compared to say moore, and yes i can play myself. I'll gladly P.M soundcloud link.
It's the first time i've listened to a Blues player and reacted this way, it was this really annoying "too much playing" vibe, i've yet to encounter, haha!!
If you ask yourself why Joe can play the blues scale up and down the neck for ten minutes WITHOUT boring his audience for a sec, whereas your listeners always start chatting when you run a solo, here is the answer: You gotta put more of that MOJO MOMA HOODOO HOOCHIE COO into your playing...
Just an absolute beast! Maybe the best ever period!
He's a damn good guitar player and that's what we gonna need in the future as all old, damn good ones just fall out in the blue, so to speak. He is nice to play with that's for sure! So please Joe, stay with us!
Excellent!
I do agree!!! ;-)
I'll be 61 in September. .love great blues!
"Well, that's just like......your opinion maaan".In all seriousness, Blues is a state of mind which transcends race.
If you are a guitar player and your name is Joe....you will be great!!!!
JB is my favorite and best player of this generation!..BUT...SRV will always remain the absolute greatest!!!!!
278 thumbs down...that freaks me out. Joe is awesome.
If you wanna see some more absolutely incredible raw early JB blues-rock, from 2004, search for "Joe Bonamassa Reconsider Baby Tangier". The two part Pain and Sorrow at Tangier is also great if you're into Hendrix-like distortion.
If you want to see another awesome version of "Blues Deluxe" on RUclips from 4 years earlier (March, 2003), search for "Blues Deluxe Denver". It's only got 70k views (probably because video was shot in what looks like night vision, audio is fine). I stumbled onto Joe on RUclips in around 2008 while watching some of my other favorite blues artists. I was lucky enough to see him live in the fall of 2010 at the DPAC in Durham, NC.
I will be to seeing you at the Florida Theater in December. I am bringing my best girl. We used to be in several bands during our life and still loves the blues the best. You are Great!
Simply put.... the greatest blues player on the planet!!
Just can flat out play the blues like no other..
Maybe Joe is the greatest Bluesman of nowadays. Great guitar playerand a blues singeras very few, like him.
His feeling and swing is remarkable and he is maybe the only one, who could humbly take and fill the place, of the unforgetable Masters Stevie Ray Vaughan and Gary Moore
He is the real Godfather of guitar heaven!
Whoever doesnt like this, has no respect for blues. When my dad told me to look him up before i saw it i thought he was just some stupid hippie, but i saw this and i am TRULY AMAZED.
They say that "Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery" and Joe does that sooooo well. He plays SRV better than SRV, both Jimmies better than both Jimmies, and yet at the very least adds newness and soul to all that he has learned from the Masters over the years. He is a true student of the classics and keeps the fire in R&R, Blues, Jazz, Funk and R&B alive. So to all of those elitist naysayers out there-put up or shut up. He is a prodigy and a modern virtuoso and is continual in his growth and art. I have been following him for over 5+ years and cant get enough! Peace.....P.S. Anybody know who the Bass player is???
Dude he studied under BB King at 12 years old and has been playing non-stop ever since. Get out more? All the greats stand in line to play with him: Eric Clapton, Warren Hayes, etc. Opinions are like assholes I guess everybody has one.
I beg to differ. Between guitarists there are huge competitions. Example being when Jimi Hendrix first played in England, Clapton, Page and Townsand all admitted to being totally intimidated by his guitar playing and Townsand and Hendrix actually had a little spat at the Monterey Pop Festival about who was going on first both wanting to out do the other.
You are right about the evolution of music though. Isn't It incombant upon the apprentices to out do their masters? So point being, Joe completely out plays his covers of all his influences, which is not to take away from their originality or innovation. It's just a fact that Joe is a virtuoso and is an excellent study.
I believe his only weakness perhaps, is his lyrical writing. His music is great but he seems somewhat immature yet in his poetic composition. But he definitely has that Mozart prodigy thing goin on and I just love to hear him play-anything. Peace
Well if Mountain Time doesn't move you or Heart aches for nickles or Sloe Gin etc etc then your trapped in the past my friend. I agree with most of what you said but there's not much Joe can't play and at least I find his guitar playing (acoustic & electric) exceptional in every way. This has been his curse. They say how can a "White" kid from up state Penn. have any life experience to be able to play the blues honestly? Well I believe that the blues and early R&B touched his soul as a young kid and he ran with it. Just because he hasn't had the tribulations of the Delta Blues men doesn't mean he doesn't feel it or can express it. Hell the British Invasion proved that! In fact that's where, he says, most of his influence came from-Clapton, Beck & Page. I'm just saying that like you to many of today's guitarists pander to the technical side but Joe can pretty much express it all. Innovation and artistry is all relative. He is definately under rated. Just my opinion
I enjoy him and first saw him when he was a mid-teen in S. Florida, but Joe plays too much...all the time...almost every song. Constant riffing. It gets old.
When he was only 12 years old, Bonamassa opened for B.B. King. what were you doing at 12....HAHAHAHA!
This is like a combination of Roy Buchanan, Gary Moore and Jeff Beck on
steroids, whew!
holy fuck youre not kidding, although i noticed roy does the volume knob trick a lot better
I totally agree
Don't Forget His fast runs which are 100 % inspired by Eric Johnson! ;)
Love the way he plays that guitar. Beautiful
Joe will be coming to Santa Barbara late August. Hope to interview him on my blues radio show "Bluesland" KCSB 91.9 FM. This song was written by Rod Stewart and he performed it with Jeff Beck. Thanks Joe, you do this song justice.
I can hear some SRV there .............
sounds like gary moore
I love how many people put-down and criticize Joe, when he's clearly doing what he loves, playing at a higher level than most people, and making a good living. Jealousy much?
Thank you; finally, somebody with ears and a heart. THANK YOU!!!!!!!
My favorite guitar video on you tube! I watch it once a week at least. Met Joe once, saw him live twice. He is the man!
There are people who don't look like a star, and this guy!
Holy F-Bomb! So many moments in this song that make me just should out loud WTF! Secondly, yes, he's a phenomenal guitarist, let's take that as read, but I also want to take this moment to recognize that he's a BRILLIANT singer as well. And let's NOT forget, he wasn't even 30 yet in this clip!
This guy is so good! And to the ney sayers, blues is blues, it's supposed to sound like that Duh! Joe was born to play he is so amazing to watch, just breath taking. Im going to see him at Shea's Performing Arts Center in Buffalo in May And I can't wait! That will be my third time in three years seeing him I'm so lucky! I say that the guitar was made/born just so one day Joe could play it!!!
As a long time Stratocaster player, I have to admit that a Les Paul is a monster blues axe in the right hands.
This is the peak of the blues. He does it all and enjoys every second of it. Now, it must tilt back the other way and people will find the simpler and more sedate and subtle stuff. First you get lit up by this guy and get and interest and then study the history. In order to fully appreciate his playing do the homework and find out where it all came from. Then you'll really appreciate it totally. Blues isn't a flash in the pan. "It was here before time." Muddy Waters.....
This man rocks! Either you have it or you don't. No question that Joe does!
Unbelievable! His volume swells are as good as it gets. The only other guitarist I personally have seen that I can remember being near this excellent is Phil Keaggy. Sorry, I don't have any links to where he is really showing his stuff but he has really good volume control as well. This is such a great performance!
Joe is great -- in all shapes and forms: acoustic, electric, He happens to be THE MAN at this point and time in music history. Notice that his concert dates specify a specific start time. He want's YOU to be there - on time. He's not there to screw around. "Blues Deluxe" is a good point of entry.
mend
I'll have to see him live once I get back to civilization. I think it's outstanding that he takes the time to explain his equipment and techniques.
just sayin.
WOW i'm in the same Boat, on my 4th show in OKLAHOMA, Too Cool. blowin all my friends AWAY. thanks for the Sining in OKC Joe. !!
Some weeks ago, i didn't know him . And one night, on the french radio, i've heard the song "prisoner" of his last album. Immediatly, i've gone on Deezer and listened all of him.Since, i've bought all his album and i listen continuously
Blues ain't nothing but a good man feeling bad.
I think he's the most talented blues man alive in 2012.
Being from Central New York I saw this guy when he was only 14 years old. He impressed the crap out of me then, and he's only gotten better over the years.
I find the fact that he comes out with these tones and that speed WITHOUT A PIC!!
couldnt agree more pal, saw joe and band at sheffield arena 24th march, awesome guitarist. Ive seen loads of brilliant players in my 66years and joe is up there with the best.
i love joe bonamassa's groove :)
its perfect for my ears!
The Best answer so far i have seen to a "white soul" ;-) , very nice and smooth ! Thumbs up!
I keep coming back to watch this little pearl in all the crap on here
I love the twine wine and define of the way he plays the blues ol' JB
caught him last night on HBO for the first time.......And i play......yes i live in a cave......Stunning!
oh no one can say that Joe ain't all that...i don't even want to know....this is sooo sweet! i LOVE This Guy
How the hell have I missed out on this guy!!!!!!!!!!
no doubt one of the best contemporary blues players there is
Long live blues music! Long live Joe Bonamassa! Was there in Manila concert......after the show! I did changed my perspective on other guitar players!
saw him in Worcester Mass last week, best show I've ever seen anywhere, much better sound than the one in Springfield. It was unbelievable, you gotta see him live as often as possible.
Rare clothe. Now a member of a very small family. Awesome.
I saw Joe live a week ago. If you were were there you would not be comparing him to anybody. He is a master of the guitar and a true showman. All guitar players MUST see him in concert if it's the last thing they do. Stevie, Rory, Jimi they're all gone. Joe's the man.
I came here to learn more about this
great musician. I saw a special on Miami PBS station last night and listened to every cord and WOW
Just love watching and listening to Bonamasa.
I haven't been listening to Joe for very long. His music is very impressive. Having listened to most of the blues/classic rock guys (blues rooted) for most of my life...I gotta say Joe brings alot of variety to his guitar. He's found a voice through his instrument and his singing that is uniquely his own. His phrasing has got a classic beauty to it. That occasional fingerpicking and volume control with his right is wild. He's got a very clean sound, little extraneous noise. He's awesome.
saw him in Worcester Mass last week, best show I've ever seen anywhere, much better sound than the one in Springfield. It was unbeleievable, you gotta see him live as often as possible.
JOE IS FANTASTIC, SINGING AND PLAYING GUITAR!!!!!
This Man's Voice Gives me the Chills..... Wooooooooo. First Time i ever heard of him, I think i am in love with myself for hearing it :) lol
that tone is just.......so clear and thick at the same time. beautiful.
Wow, 43 people are absolutely oblivious to what good music is.
The best player in this small little world. At the moment, that is. Check out what he, or his manager is asking for tickets. If I could bring back Jimi, I would. But in all honesty, this guy has paid his dues, and he can and WILL blow you away live. Check out his catalogue. What do you want? Tone? Volume? Shuffles? Slow blues? Heavy? He delivers. That's what I want.
WOW!!! Man...you KNOW the guitarist is good when he's using a Dumble. Outrageous!
simplesmente espetacular ...
Yep! It rarely gets better than this!
I agree with hlb53. and after I sold my soul, I would still bow to the master.
i found joe at his best in this performance in denmark. he always has exceptional guitar techniques but the chemistry between player and audience here is a great extra. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
A true national treasure.......
If some day I am this divided by 1000 I will be really really good at guitar.
