Richard Arlen was 46 when this movie was made. He was a World War 1 pilot in the Royal Canadian Air Force and was a Flying Instructor for the US Army Air Force in World War 11. Although never a big star, he worked consistently in B grade movies from 1921 (in silent pictures originally) to his last in 1976. He also appeared in many TV shows, especially westerns. His reputation was that of a steady, dependable and reliable actor. He died in 1976 at the aged of 77.

This is one of my favorite movies, in spite of the low resolution. The movie takes us back in time to when thousands of soldiers returned from overseas combat. Many of them weren't sure how they would feel at coming home, because they had changed while away.

The actor that played the little boy, Bobby Driscoll, had a sad ending in real life also. After Disney gave him the boot, (bcos he was no longer a cute lil kid), he turned to drugs. His body was found in an abandoned building in NYC. He is now buried in Potter's Field. RIP💐😢🙏😇

You can't blame Disney for Bobby's death! He made some bad decisions the older he got. He became a drug addict and and Disney DID NOT twist Bobby's arm and make him take drugs!!! I am sad also, because I love his acting and was very upset to hear how he died. We are our own captain's of our lives! We must keep from shipwrecking on the rocks that we encounter! And God has promised in the holy scriptures, " And HE will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more,, as the former things have passed away"! Give the bible a chance! It's the worlds absolute "BEST-SELLER" FOR GOOD REASON!

@@newmoon54 The Disney organization has been responsible for ruining the lives of many young people. Pushed to celebrity status at a young age, exposed to the kind of parties and people, predatory people, that seek to corrupt innocence. Watching as a Viet era-veteran with WWII/Korea/Viet Nam parents: These old black-and-white movies have great acting that pulls you right into the story. This is such a fundamental mystery, with a happy and inspirational ending and message. War is the worst human invention. And many of the rest of us experience other circumstances over which we have no control.
Yet still, every individual is valuable. He didn’t even know who he was, yet he had a positive affect on 4 family’s lives. You don’t have to be anything more than who ever you are right now, to positively influence the next person you encounter - in ways you couldn’t imagine.

I'm tired of coming to comment sections of old movies that are complaining about how people used to be more this or that, or things were better this way. It's like everyone forgets that they can still act the way they'd like others to act. No one's going to give you anything better in terms of treatment unless you start it. It's really annoying to see a bunch of curmudgeonly commenters that won't start with the common courtesy of respecting other's lifestyles but expect everyone to act like _they_ want. Mind your business and act as you see right, all this complaining in the comment section taints a perfectly enjoyable movie.

Jesus gave one commandment, and if we obey the one, it covers the ten. He commanded that *we love each other.* A simple direction. If we are loving we don't offend anyone. When we hate we please Satan. When we choose love, we please God. 🌹

When Sally went to commit suicide it made me think whoever created her character must have made 'her' think death would solve her problems and make her happy. Not telling the boy the truth but telling him he wasn't to cry was sad and not the right thing to do. Truth and tears are always best. The hero went around helping others find themselves. Frank Cascio The unit was NOT ingraved on dog tags, because you could be transferred from one unit to another, that would have kept the (Branch of service) such as the Army, very very busy just engraving dog tags constantly, and they certainly wouldnt do that ! They just want the most important info, Name, rank, serial # Date of birth & blood type . The dog tags arent that big, so theres only so much info that you can get on them!

except when the government doesn't want to pay the medical bills. My father was a veteran and they refused him care because they said they burned in a fire. Until he died then they gave him a marker & said sorry even though we have all his pics in uniform and where he served and his w4 or whatever they are called.
